Kyou no Go no Ni: Today in Class 5-2
Seems like an OVA, first episode released by yu:
http://a.scarywater.net/yu/Kyou_no_5...Byu%5D.torrent
"This one-volume manga by Sakuraba Koharu portrays the fifth grade in a... different light. The chapters ran in Young Magazine, a relatively small publication, and were then released in volume form, when it gained some cult following.
What makes this manga particularly unique is not it`s characters, which represent fairly run-of-the-mill manga personalities like those found in FLCL, Azumanga, and even Sister Princess--which should give you a pretty good idea of what does make this manga interesting: the perfect blend of school humor, plain ridiculousness, and raging sexual innuendo.
Ah, fifth grade like you wish you remembered it! "

I thought the first episode was fantastic. Some of the stuff made me crack up.

First episode was very funny. Hope it can stay that way with the rest of the OVAs.

Triad released their version which should be the superior version, and the one I'm keeping:

The first episode was absolutely great! Quite ruthless humour indeed.
A wicked anime, to say the least.

I definitely enjoyed the first eps. An Azumanga Daioh where all the characters are Chiyo's age. Even if its just an OVA, I'll be keeping an eye on this one. I think I like Chika and Megumi the most so far. The part with Natsumi was good too.

It might be easy to compare this to Azumanga Daioh, but considering how much "raging sexual innuendo" there is, I'm not so sure that comparison is anywhere near accurate. So many of the jokes were based on that, or lead to that sooner or later. There's almost nothing like that in Azumanga, for sure.

I was referring more to the brief 5-minute mini-episodic format and slice of life genre than the humor and general plot lines of Azumanga. I also recall one or two particular eps where the girls of Azumanga got Nyamo drunk at the beach cottage and she told them alllll about being a woman (admittedly it was all silent, but the expressions on their faces are priceless. Nyamo's too, when Chiyo asked for some clarification the next morning).

Aye, you are absolutely right about the technical aspects (mini-episodic format). I failed to consider that. My mistake.

Triad has released their version of eps 2
[Triad] Today in Class 5-2
Same format as before, 4 very funny shorts with any combination of the characters, with Hirakawa again being left looking like she was molested in some way and the vampire girl Aihara up to something weird. The final part was again about Ryouta and his potentially budding relationship with Chika.

It looks like we will get more 5-2 goodness early next year! 24th of January and 21st of March seem to be the days of reckoning. Well, that's what you can deduct with no Japanese skills when visiting the official site, anyway (which will also serve as my disclaimer...). Although the Triad site projects section affirms that as well, so it's not like my missing language skills were my only source of hope.

Some nameless lone subber (I think) was the first to sub the third ova:
Episode 3 - y_m
Unfortunately I also have to report it wasn't nearly as funny as the first or second episodes. It was still very well worth watching, but the humour was somewhat more dull and more direct, which meant missing much of the "raging sexual innuendo" type of humour of the earlier episodes. I guess they are running out of ideas.
Well, like I said, still a good watch, nonetheless.

Agreed. I found this episode too slapstick and less situational comedy. Anyway, I hope at least the main characters develop before this short one ends.

I'll wait for Triad's release, but I think they've already done a good job at developing Chika and Ryota's relationship from the past two episodes. They showed that she likes him when she almost kissed him in the first episode, and he clearly likes her from the dream he had where Chika seduced him in the second episode.
They really don't have to bother to go that deep, they're fifth grade elementary students. I don't know what else you're really looking for, this isn't Suzuka, KimiNozo, or a random cross-section out of the myriad of copycat bishonen romance series.

Im looking for a confession at least. Is that really so odd? Even though its obvious, since they ARE japanese 5th graders.

I remembered watching the first 3 episodes. Man, those're some perverted 5th graders.
