There are no new mods, these people have been mods for a while, although in secret.
BUT NOW THEY'RE FREE TO ROAM THE STREEEETS!

So what's with the new "no ninja-mod" policy? Why was it abandoned?
Also, I've always tried to guess who the mods were. I finally have confirmation!. Though the last two names did suprise me - the rest I had always had suspicions about >_>

I'm not really a mod, go about your business. Ignore my custom title and the fact that my name's on that list. No, really!
*Fake edit: Damn, now nobody will trust anything I say ever again. :O
I think I know precisely what I mean
when I say it's a schpadoinkle day
I sorta figured those guys were mods before the bolds and colors and crap started appearing, except for some reason I didn't expect Kai to be a mod, hmmmmmm![]()
R.I.P Captain America.
Yeah, I'm with Knives here. Most of these guys I saw coming.
I haven't trusted you since I found out you really don't look like Iceman. Sorry Raven, but thats how it is. You must re-earn my trust. :POriginally Posted by Raven
For all you awesome people, it's just Phoenix. The numbers are just the amount of times people misspell it.
Man, having "Moderator" as my custom title is SO awesome. And thus, my awesome-ness factor has now increased by tenfolds!!
I'm still the same ol' NM though.
kAi: You bastard!!! Stop editing my post!
This fantastic Sousuke sig was made by the one and only Lucifus! Thanks man!
dammit, my secret is out! curse you comp!!
oh well....FEAR MY MODSHIP BITCHES!
NM, your awesomeness can be exponentially increased by posting that picture of yours. You know what I'm talking about.

Ok ... there's two good reasons to ditch the whole ninja-mod scheme.Originally Posted by XanBcoo
The first is that people have been largely able to figure out who the mods were ... and our moddy friends have been somewhat bad at keeping it quiet. Way I figure it, everyone had a good idea of who was a mod before, except the newbies. And the newbies are the people that probably most need to know who not to piss off, right?
Second is that vbulletin doesn't really support that mod method. While there were a couple things we could do to mask mod identities (like making the mod group a hidden group, making the members of it secondary group members and hiding edit signatures), there's a lot of mod functions that we just couldn't get around leaking their identities. Things like editing thread titles, deleting posts, locking threads, and giving warnings.
When we noticed that, it stuck me in a dilemma ... do we force all the mods to use this shared mod account ("GotWoot Moderator"), do we start hacking up the forum code to make it hide their identities better, or do we just say screw it and abandon the whole system.
Well, I'm something of an infosec guy (sysadmin and all), and a shared-access account, even with detailed logging, is just revolting to me to begin with -- not to mention inconvenient for all parties involved. And hacking up well-developed php code, likely breaking features and introducing unsupported new bugs, isn't any of our idea of a good time either... especially on live sites and production deployments like this one. So that pretty much killed that. So we talked it over, and decided that the costs involved with maintaining the (already somewhat-broken) system weren't really worth paying for the ostensible benefits we were getting from it.
So, there we are.
The bold mod names/colorful admin names are just added bonuses. I am thinking of changing the style of that to something more in line with the forum layout though.
Please do!!! It looks funky with this sleek layout to see the admin's names in big bold blue text. The mod' names being black isn't is bad but you admin's names stick out like a turd in a punch bowl.Originally Posted by complich8
