It looks slick, but it's still a "16 msec typical" panel. The only difference I see between it and a 2005fpw is that it's got a nice looking base and metal instead of plastic.

    How is this droolworthy again?

Simple, it's prettier and has a better contrast ratio, comes with HDCP, which i don't consider a feature, but it'll come in handy when the windoze users decide to upgrade to vista or whatever.

You can't get much better response times without dropping the S-IPS panel for a crappier one and going down to 6 bit color.

sure, but HDCP is only going to be a vista requirement for people who're trying to play HD-DVD content. And the res and aspect ratio are off for that, like all monitor-type lcds today. 1680x1050 is too small to play 1080p (1920x1080) natively, and too big to play 720p (1280x720) natively, so either way you're interpolating and stretching.

Sure, the response time isn't bad... and a contrast ratio boost can't hurt. But until these panels are catering to HDTV resolutions, what's the point of even caring about that?

I'm still not seeing anything to drool over... but maybe I'm just desensitized because of my 2001 at home and my 2005's at work...

Now, you want droolworthy ... do the same thing to a 2405 (which is closer to the HDTV aspect ratio and big enough to accomodate 1080p), and then I'd concede droolworthiness.

I own a 2005 and it displays 1280x720 output from my 360 crystal clear, and there's no stretching since the monitor has a keep aspect ratio setting. The 2407 is also coming and it's getting the same treatment as the 2007, which is the new styling and HDCP.
