I don't think any name change that completely changes your identity should be allowed. A community isn't a community if you don't know the guy that has 500 posts because he changed his name to something COMPLETELY irrelevant to what it was before.

I think name changes should only be permitted if it keeps the person's identity established (like IFHTT would be a permitted example)

Wondering if you could help to change my nick from smilealwiz to yallo please? Not sure if this is considered something that will cause "loss of identity", but yallo is what I go by on irc and pretty much everywhere else on the internet. I agree with assertn about the identity thing. Its annoying when new name with 1000+ posts suddenly appears out of nowhere. At the very least, when someones name is changed thier old name should appear in big bold, possibly colored letters in thier original request.

Atleast that way we'll know that "Big_b0b_38" is infact "xX Tiny Tim Xx".
