I've noticed a phenomenon. I call it the "asian girl victory/peace syndrome".
Apparently, asian girls can't have pictures taken without making hand symbols of some sort or another. And that symbol almost always ends up being that finger-v.
Take, for example:

When it's not that, it's still something. There's got to be a pose, and it's got to involve hands. In this case, it's a kung-fu girl pose, and it looks like it's just the spread-fingers motion away from being another classic-case:
There's a couple pictures WAY earlier in this thread that don't exhibit this phenomenon. For example, Honoko never does it, as far as I can tell. So it's not totally universal.
On the other hand, EVERY picture of an asian girl I have taken invariably winds up with that symbol, unless I ask them to specifically make some sort of face, or their hands are full. For example, here's a couple pics of my boss (the camera isn't kind to her, she looks a lot better in person)shows the standard pose, alone.
- even accompanied, it still comes out.
- hands are full of another coworker, so no pose, but still follows the rule.
I've taken a dozen other pictures of this woman at various times, for various reasons, and every one of them adheres to the rule. Either she's got her hands full, or she's making a face (ie: angry face), or she's doing that.
Before she graduated and moved away, I took 4 pictures of this girl:with my shitty cellphone cam. I lost them in a hard drive crash. But I swear, all four, on four different occasions, with four different pictures, that same "v" pose. Her flickr stream is all self-portraits, either on a timer or in a mirror, and she doesn't do it there. But every photo I've seen her in that wasn't taken by her follows the rule. Hands full, making a strange face, or "victory/peace".
I don't get it. What's up with this? It's got to be a cultural thing. Can anyone explain this phenomenon?

I think it's really just the equivalent of a thumbs up or something. But you're right, EVERY asian girl does it. Take these pictures from my recent visit to China for example:
Note the V sign the girl is making. The guy on the far right is me.
This girl is doing it with both hands.
I've also got a great shot of the exact place where Smilealwiz took her picture, but I'm not in it, and there's no 6 foot guy...

As for the hand signs it's sort of become my wife's trademark to do that in every photo she takes. I just follow her lead.
