    .hack//Roots

Seems like a new .hack series is in the making for you .hack fans, if any...

"On Monday there was an official press conferance announcing the April broadcast of .hack//Roots, a new TV series entry in the .hack universe. Animation will again be handled by Bee Train and Yuki Kajiura's FictionJunction YUUKA will provide the opening theme."

"Plot Summary: In 2015, CC Corporation`s datacenter caught on fire destroying "The World". By splicing in data from what would have been another project, CC Corp. was able to rebuild the game. In 2016, "The World R:2" was released. .hack//Roots covers the time Haseo spent with Shino and Ovan in the guild known as the Twilight Brigade, before the .hack//G.U. PS2 games."

it's basically about people playing an MMORPG that's almost as realistic as the matrix. but there's always more to it...
i'm looking forward to it, haven't played any of the ps2 games but i watched .hack//sign way back and liked it.

That's great! I've watched half of the .hack//sign episodes, and it was really good.. Haven't had time to finish it though, but I will do it before this one comes out.

Is it just me, or does that sound like next to impossible? A game so popular would not be kept in one single datacenter. Also, it's a worldwide game, meaning that it should be adapted to english at some point, thus they have a secondary copy.

It seems that they just needed an excuse to change the gameplay elements to me.

Hmm...sounds alright...hope for better, if not worst, as the previous Hack series didn't fulfill my expectations. I'm really glad to hear Yuki Kajiura is doing the music again, thou...since the music was one of the best thing the past series had going on for me...

I agree with the above comment.

I only liked the OVAs and the beginning of .hack//SIGN (the ending sucked so much). Still, I'll be giving this anime a try.

If i could compare Hack Sign to anything, it would be a big throbbing turd that crawled across my screen at a rate slower than that of anything I have seen before.

It was ridiculous. Worst characters ever. If I was in that game and I found Tsukasa, I would punch him in the fucking throat for being such an antisocial emo piece of shit. It was like listening to a stupid shitty HIM song (read: all HIM songs) everytime he talked.

I was wondering when they would do the part about Haseo. This will be great. I wish that they would make .hack//A.I. Buster into an anime as well though.

Also if you are going to enter the .hack universe and want to really get into it you will need to play the games and read the mangas. They all are important parts of the series with the exception of the horrible .hack//Legend of the Twilight Braclet anime.

Kaijura is only doing the opening theme.

For all of those who say the ending of hack//SIGN sucks...

You really needed to play the PS2 games to understand what happened.

I mean... Sora's destiny. Helba's involvement. The truth behind Morganna and Skeith. Without playing the PS2 games (that aren't that good, but have an awesome story) you wont understand much.

And about the commet behind the "the burning was an excuse to change the gameplay".

Again, you need to play the games and read/see all hacks to undertand it.

I believe this was the "official" reason give to the public. But I am sure it was CCcorps excuse to get rid of Aura and Zephie.

    hack Timeline:

    - .hack//AI Buster (novel)
    - .hack//Wotan Spear (small novel part of AI Buster 2)
    - .hack//SIGN (anime)
    - .hack//ZERO (novel)
    - .hack//INFESTATION (PS2 games)
    - .hack//ANOTHER BIRTH (novel based on games with Akira's point of view [BlackRose])
    - .hack//LIMINALITY (OVA)
    - .hack//AI Buster 2 (novel)
    - .hack//Udeden (manga)

    7 years later

    - .hack//ROOTS
    - .hack//GU
    - .hack//JACK (not official title for new OVA)
    - .hack//??? (new novels)

Roots tells the tale of Haseo, a PlayerKiller Killer.
GU continues Haseo's tale, where now he hunts Tri-Edge, an unknown character that has being Data-Draining other players.
JACK tells the tale offline, like Liminality.

    EDIT:
    Corrected things.

The only thing that kept me playing the games was the story. Within the first 5 minutes you start to think: "What the hell is going on here?" and the rest of the games you slightly work your way to the solution and both Sign and Liminality start to make more sense.
Now that Roots is starting, I really want to see all of the series again and play the games.
I'll go buy the manga (they're all out in english, right?)while I'm at it

The 3 Legend of the Twlight Volumes are indeed out in english.
Sadly they no longer include color pictures like the 1st print (they are at the 3rd one)

Also the first 2 novels, AI Buster 1 & 2 are out in english.

Oh yeah... playing the games makes many things more clear.

Take for example the 2nd Liminality OVA. If you only see it you do not understand why everything exploded. If you play the game you find out it was caused when YOU destroy one of the Phases.

I saw the intro of hack//ROOTS this morning and HECK!!! they already include the Kite look-alike Tri-Edge. (this is no spoiler since its on the damn opening, so I can say who Tri-Edge resembles )
