Heh. Aside from Terra's remark, I have to say the pictures Anphorus chose might be just a tiny bit biased: The blue haired guy looks like he's coming from a meeting for weak-minded pacifists, and Kakashi has a bloody picture and a badass fighting pic.

Reminds me of The Twelve Kingdoms, actually, based on that description. I got the .torrent already, but since it's from Boxtorrents, I haven't started it yet. Who knows when Boxtorrents' tracker is online again (relying on DHT is getting a bit tiresome and boring...). But I will get this series eventually.
Oh, well, I couldn't answer who Chichiri is, in the end, but at least the show he's in doesn't look bad. And there are, in anime, fine characters who don't look badass yet still are tough enough, like Kenshin.

I always pictured Kakashi was on a mission with a member of the Uchiha clan. The Uchiha fellow lost his life, Kakashi only his eye. So he took a replacement from the fallen companion. That seems like a plausible theory, and would explain the scar. And I think Kakashi would be badass enough to carve out a dead eye. Maybe he absolutely needed the sharingan to beat somebody back then.

I have to agree with Kraco about mildmannered characters (Read: Kenshin). He was nice with his pinwheel eyes saying oro~~ (or something like that) but that first episode he fought one of his old rivals in the dojo (boy thats a boatload f general descriptive terms, Its when you really see his manslayer nature come back, wtf is that guys name, always wearing blue, works with the police) Anyway, I was actually scared of the dude.

He looks quite happy go lucky. A little too cheery and innocent.
Kakashi can be cheery but you know there is nothing innocent about him, more like blatant disregard.
Whereas this Chichiri character appears a bit like Miroko from Inuyasha (not in looks but in the wide-eyed innocence that Miroko puts on at times)
Even his pissed off badass pic doesnt come close to kakashi's. Then again I havent seen the fushigi yugi anime so I guess I can't say much.
I liked Ayashi No Ceres, so I think Ill check it out.

Zdarkgalz, please tell me that the tallest fellow on the right in the second last pic (and the same one with the neko in the last pic) is either Amiboshi or Suboshi. It would be awesome if Ueda Yuji was voice acting that fellow. And with the same voice he uses in Kenshin and Zipang. That would seriously rock.

Kakashi is one of my favorite characters from the show. He's young, but he's wise beyond his years. He's calm, but isn't afraid to throw down and kill a badass villain. I figure there's some great backstory about him, and I really don't want it spoiled. Sorry for jumping on you about it.
My pet theory is that (1) Kakashi was teamed up with an Uchiha. (2) Kakashi fux0rs up and loses his eye during a misison. (3) The Uchiha got killed during the same mission. (4) Tsunade transplanted the eye using medical jutsu before she left to gamble.
It would explain a lot, especially the speech he gave to Sasuke about being unlucky. And constantly visiting the fallen-nin memorial. And the way he is willing to fight to the death, without hesitation, for his nakama. (I've been watching way too much One Piece lately)
