It IS bypassing the system, and that's why he got screwed. If he had gotten in line, the only way he would have missed the movie is if it was sold out. In that event, he wouldn't have spent $50 on tickets to a movie he didn't see.

The way you say THE system implies that lining up for a ticket is the PROPER system, or the way "everyone else" uses.
The situation is the same as if he physically bought the tickets two weeks ago, but missed the show due to traffic. From memory, "everyone" pre-bought tickets many years ago.
I agree that Assassin buying his tickets online opened up the possibility for his paying for something he didn't see, but that doesn't make the realisation of it his fault.
In any case, there are simply two systems in place. Neither is THE system that one should take. Your implied comparison to queue jumping is flawed in that it's not an endorsed way of purchasing something.
Assassin also adhered to your "first come, first serve" idea, since there are two points of sale: counter and website.

Time > Money. Fuck waiting in line. Getting your ticket online shows a certain amount of foresight and a certain amount of respect for your time. In most cases, it doesn't represent a risk to your money, and chances are good that Assassin'll be getting his money back come next week. The only screwage here was the accident that could've just as easily wasted his time had he set out to wait online with the rest of the sheep.
What I'd do, is set the situation aside, not think about it at all till I have some free time on monday, and just buy tickets again that weekend, online of course, and go see the movie.

Isn't that the problem though? Why does he needs to be a sheep and "follow the system"? He didn't use any "cheap" method to bypass the system. Buying your tickets online is a legitimate and smarter way of not having to deal with all the BS.
The only thing that really screwed him over was bad luck that an accident had happened at the time of his showing. I don't see why he should go do things the stupid way just because of one unfortunate circumstance.
They started a 401k a couple years ago @ my job.
I stopped putting money in it after maybe 6 months because it seemed like i was losing all my money.
THEN... it started gaining money and it got to about $1,800.
So, today I get a statement for the last 2 months where I've put $300 ( i know not much ) into it of that $300, 227.91 was lost.
So.... there's really no point in putting money in there if it just disappears.
That's only true in a down market like we're currently in. A large number of 401ks are invested in the stock market, so the value of your 401k will feel the impact of poor market conditions. You should check with whoever manages your 401k to see what stocks they are investing in to be sure they are diversified and investing wisely.

Last summer I replaced the thermostat in my car because it was starting to overheat while idling. It seemed to have solved the problem until just yesterday I noticed that it was doing the exact same thing it was doing before. Fucking cars.
A car I used to own had the same problem, we'd have to replace the thermostat pretty close to every year.
Also, a new heater core every 4 years.
Also, we had to top up the radiator every thousand or so miles because its bad design caused it to blow head gaskets and burn coolant after about 30,000 miles on one. And a new transmission every 50,000 miles, water accumulation in the headlights, problems with tie rods. I finally got rid of it at 140,000 miles (was given to me at 129k) - it would have cost somewhere in the neighborhood of two grand to get it to run safely, and it was showing signs of another 4 grand worth of failures on the horizon.
Sometimes it just isn't worth it.... the whole driving thing.

Yeah, my car is Japanese but it was built in Marysville, Ohio.
I was denied financial aid this year because I've used up too many semesters. I was a cokehead who wasn't taking anything seriously so I flunked out three years ago, paid for my first semester back out of pocket, I've gotten good grades for a year and a half since then, and my financial aid petered out because I'm going into my 13th semester.
I'm appealing the decision but I don't know if it would be a wise choice to just ask for a semester's aid and pay for my last semester out of pocket with a job that pays me barely enough to survive, or if I should gamble it all or nothing and ask for a year in aid. The first choice looks like the safest one, but I have two math classes, I'm horrible in math, and working weekday afternoons and Sundays is going to leave me little time to study. If I had aid for the year I would just take time off my job to complete my classes, but I feel like asking for one more semester would increase my chances of approval.
Does anyone else feel like everytime they have been faced with a dilemma they choose the wrong decision? I do.

Some Rottweilers broke into our yard yesterday and attacked our small, 13 year-old dog as I was putting him in the yard to pee before bed.
I managed to intervene almost immediately and got the dogs off him before anything horrible happened, but they still bit him and screwed up his back and leg. I spent all night at an emergency vet.
Please don't be such a cunt.
