When I was younger I pretended I had one when they asked, there was no social media and cellphones were an adult thing so is not as if they`d search her on Facebook, now that I`m older I just say that since I`m moving to U.S.A I don`t want any long term relationship only to leave next year and I just have casual sex every now and then.

I don't think he's quite picking between the too. Dating around isn't so bad, it's not easy finding the right person after all. That's much better to most conservative-minded people than coming out as gay.
Austin, TX is very gay-friendly. Since Portland is supposedly the Austin of the Pacific NW, that might be a good area to settle in. Or pretty much anywhere in California.

Been sick with the flu for the past few days, so all my new year's plans went to shit. Weird thing is that I started feeling sick before the holidays, then felt fine during my week out of town for Christmas, then felt even sicker when I returned home and through today (4 days now). Luckily I work for a college which is closed from mid-December through Jan 2, so I don't have to work, but it feels like such a waste of time to be sick with all this free time off.
