I hadn't actually thinked about it like that. I mean that each group 7 member is being trained by an individual sannin now.

Since Group 7 is literally the only set of students Kakashi has ever had I think that he should have some special bond with them, even if he isn't their official teacher anymore. I bet he is planning something like that the real culprit will reveal itself at Naruto's execution or something.

I don't see the harm in throwing the kakashi gaiden mid-way through the filler gauntlet anyway. I guess it would've been too practical.
