LOLZ : I checked amazon again and they had it @ 499 so i added to cart but then when i went to checkout I had something I"d been looking at weeks ago in my cart and in the time it took me to remove that and change my shipping address it was no longer available at 499... i was going to buy it becaus amazon = free next day delivery + no $40 tax and just sell the walmart one

Ok. Time to get this thread back on track. The 360 and PS3 are current Gen consoles...
Seeing now myself how great the PS3 is, what is next? How can they possibly improve on this?
Back on track? this thread was created for the "next-gen consoles" a term only used so far for the 360, ps3 and wii.
Plus the topic creator obviously had these consoles in mind, so even though its "current-gen" now, the subject of the thread is still 360, ps3 and wii.
So random speculation about what the successors to these consoles would be like, would actually be derailing the topic.
But if you really want an answer, I mean wth, do you think technology has reached a limit? It would simply be more advancements in the control interfaces and ofcourse upgraded gfx once again.
Everything has pretty much been done already, and can only be brought back bigger and better, cept for ofcourse control interface, which still has plenty of room for inovation.
The next generation console should be developed after further advances in the technology they utilize. Examples would be TV/visual (better than 1080p) and media formats(thing to succeed Blu-ray).
If you used the Sony Playstation's development as an example:
Playstation: made for CDs
Playstaion 2: made for DVDs
Playstation 3: made for Blu-Ray Discs
Playstaion 4?: made for ????

Sigh, my 360 just red ringed of deathed on me. I almost had it for a year and hardly play it. But man, it's been flashed and everything, which is why I don't want to send it back to Microsoft. I could've have someone try and fix it but that's like 70-80, oof.

The next next gen should have better graphics, be even more geared towards being the primary entertainment unit in your living/game room, and improve load times. The slow load times for games is what kills it for me. PS2 games load faster than Xbox360 games. They should upgrade the harddrives for spindle speed and capacity.
They could also have better upgrade paths with aftermarket parts, since consoles are basically low-end PCs.

Apparently, Sony wants to market a new version of the PS3 as a multimedia machine with gaming ability rather than a gaming machine with multimedia ability. I heard about this today from a shop attendant. I would seriously consider that if:
a) I knew when it'd come out, and
b) I didn't place a deposit already.
It would be really awesome if it can play things packed in mkv.

Well for 1700-2500US$ you can build yourself a hell of a noiseless HTPC that handles games too...
But I guess that Sony is on a slope were they aim at more and more technical geeky features. So you'd think it's only normal they think they want to propose this.
But Nintendo showed this is not the only possible way, and many customers seem to agree.

Get the X360 if you're a gamer, especially if you like online multiplayer. Get the PS3 if you dabble in console games and want to watch blu-ray movies. I've heard blu-ray movies have this depth of view effect that can cause headaches after watching for a short time.

I would tend to agree with you that Xbox is what a gamer should get, but I am also looking for a blue ray player. Now if I could get the 360 with games, pads and blue ray player for the same price as a ps3 with games and pads then I might consider it.
I know people say the PS3 is the console of the future, but I can't say I'm conviced because I havn't seen a clutch of good exclusive games that would make me think, hang on, I need a PS3. So for now it seems XBox is the winner due to its bigger library of games.
Or get both like I did, unless you're under a budget.
But honestly when it comes to upcoming exclusives atleast, sounds like PS3 is winning out. Only ones the 360 has upcoming that I might be excited about is what, Star Ocean 4, and uh, Gears of War 3 in maybe 2 years?
Off the top of my head PS3 has God of War 3, the new ICO project and White Knight Chronicles.
Don't they say that every year?
DB Hunter I would get the 360, because it sounds to me like you're gonna buy a PS3 just to have a blue ray player and I don't see the point in that.
