I just noticed something interesting while rewatching the Lancer/Archer/Saber fight. When Saber went to attack Archer Rin forced him to vanish which took away one of her command spells. I'm guessing he wanted to fight Saber and took a command speel as payment. Guess I didn't notice it since command spells weren't talked about back then.

I think Rider is some kind of scout class. Her combat abilities are definitely below average but she makes up for that in speed and stealth.Originally Posted by kooshi

Obviously the samurai of most anime are Kenshin style swordsman though, and Kenshin was an assasin, so he does fit that role well enough. But she's so much more assasin like that it just seems wrong. And I think she might be blind. Come on, the blind Assassin is a huge cliché in anime...why not have one here?

also its kind of odd to me that its like a given that certian classes beat other classes for instance its been said rider is no match for saber and the same was said of archer vs saber ..even though archer is a knight class himself...do we have like some funky rock paper scisors thing going on here?
No, it's really a matter of what Rin said in the first eps to Archer. That because she was his master he will be inherently the best, but she really wanted to have Saber. Saber is, assuming Berserker is not put into the mix, the strongest Servant. Hands down. If she uses her Noble Phantasm, then she may be even stronger than Berserker. I don't know for sure, I never played the game. During the fight with Assassin, we learned that Saber has never fully taken her sword out of its sheath during a fight. She's been holding back all this time. It seemed to me to be more of a direct heiarchy. Saber is the strongest, and the rest trickle down.

The reason I think Saber is called the strongest class is because the Saber class won the last Holy Grail War. The two shadows in the first ep fighting looked like Saber and maybe Archer. But yea if I had to classify Rider in rpg terms I'd say she reminded me of the theif class. She's very quick, she doesn't like to attack direct and she fights with a small weapon.

Just as an aside, I'm noticing that many of you are very acquainted with the Fate/stay night storyline, evident that many of you have played the game or just read the story in various sites. OMG, That episode was awesome, I never would've thought that Rider was a pegasus knight. Rider was freaking awesome this ep, and now that she has lost her mask I can finally use my sig. And Saber's true idenity came out of left field.

Indeed. It was an awesome episode. Started quite slow, and if I hadn't watched the last preview I might have thought it's just some intermediate episode, but the latter half was fine indeed. And like Aeon said, Rider shone in this episode.
But Shinji is cracking pretty badly. It's never a good sign if you kick a trash can over in the middle of a street, stop and scream like an animal up to the night sky.

This episode was pretty awesome. Rider was kool, but Saber was kooler. Excalibur huh? Tight.
No one wants to explicitly guess Rider's identity? This eps gives you all the information you needed. I knew from fanart spoilers months ago, but its really easy to figure out at this point (not that it wasn't too hard before).
I still have no idea as to who Rider is.
I was also spoiled by a couple of the wallpapers I have of her. I still seem to be missing something, I typed the name Bellerphron that she shouted out and got the story of Bellerphron the pegasus knight that killed a chimera. That doesn't match the identity ofthe fanarts I have.

Her identity is about as obvious as the Cae Bolg reference giving away Lancer's identity. If you're familiar with a lot of mythology, and the specific legend, one clue gives it away, usually the Noble Phantasms so far.
Evidence behind Rider's Identity:
I feel that the Bellerophon reference is more of a completion of the whole Pegasus myth rather than taking only that portion. The golden bridle and 'Bellerophon' cry is straight from that portion of the myth, Bellerophon forcibly tamed Pegasus to slay the Chimera.
However Pegasus existed before that. Pegasus' origins stem from the Perseus myth. You should also pay key attention to Saber and Rider's dialogue.
Saber: "To have brought out a mythological creature, your sins are extensive..."
Rider: "I was nothing more than your human's enemy."
...
Saber: "I did know you were the unvirtuous sort, yet, you were not a heroic soul but rather of the evil creature type."
It should be fairly obvious from these complied clues. The destroying eye that appeared when she stabbed her own neck, separating her head from her body. Also note that she has been blinded all this time.
Since the answer should be clear given all that, the answer is obvious, especially her connection to the pegasus.
Rider is Medusa. Snakelike hair, snakelike weapons, blinded eyes, and when Perseus cut off her head, Pegasus sprung forth from her neck. It's an interesting connection of all the myths that combine Pegasus and her.
