    Wy give him a new name then? If he is so known, wouldn't he be found out straight away?

    Im not saying that this is the case only giving a pausible explanation. Maybe Sai is the name of a real gennin/chunnin from konoha, who have died, disappeared been killed or kidnaped, and this new Sai is going to supplant him/her. Or some other convenient plot device, is too early to know everything.

    Maybe Sai is just a codename. The old man will call him that until he finishes the mission.

    Just like how Raiden got his codename in Metal Gear Solid 2 if you have ever played that game.
