Sit-com animes

I am kind of new to the anime community and I don't know that many shows. I have wondered for a while if there are any "funny" animes out there. I like shows like The Simpsons and Family Guy and what I would like to know is if there are any animes that are like that. I mean comedy all the way. All tips are appreciated.

There are a lot of good comedies out there, but different from "The Simpsons." You might like Golden Boy, short very funny series, sort of wacky and perverted. Ranma 1/2 is a decent romantic comedy and has kind of a sitcom-like feel with Akane and her wacky family and lots of silly fights for the "Anything Goes" martial arts school. Good for someone not really familiar with anime. Excel Saga is kind of out there, but it can be very funny. Lots of parodies and in jokes though, so maybe not the best to start with.

FLCL is pretty good, you should check that one out. Azumanga Daioh is really funny, but more like Seinfeld than The Simpsons. Lots of situational and deadpan humor. Kind of an aquired taste.

thing with anime comedy is that some people might not understand the japanese humour, like for example someone falls down as a reaction to something stupid

so i'd really suggest other animes such as action rather than comedy ones

i love family guy and simpsons but if u compare to most animes, cartoons like family guy dont really have a main storyline (its really random) so u'll notice that most animes u really have to watch 1,2,3 every episode or else u miss something

I think the most universal (anyone can watch) anime would be Cowboy Bebop (both subbed and dubbed) so i'd suggest u watch that first,, its alot of action, comedy, drama mix

if u wanna go comedy,, I laughed the most prolly in Tenshi Na Konamaiki (A cheeky Angel) its moslty comedy with a little romance

    enjoy! ~

School Rumble is another sitcom-esque anime... but it's almost an acquired taste like Azumanga Daioh. Really good if you like random humor

I would call Ranma 1/2 the most sitcom anime out there, because not only is it a comedy series which has similar humor in each episode (like the simpsons for example), it is also built up in such a way that almost all episodes have nothing to do with each other (except for a few seldomly seen story episodes).

Bumping this, since I've at last actually gotten around to watching one of these shows.

God damn! I love Azumanga Daioh so much. It is by far my all time favourite anime. It's uncomprehecible how much I actually like this show. It's gotten to the point where I am actually sad that I will never get to meet the girls in the show. The characters are so unique and deep thet they feel real in a way I have never experienced in another anime.

    Sit-com animes

Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~ is a fairly sit-com like series. A number of fairly weird people living in an apartment building. It fits the genre more than adequately and doesn't often have a continuous storyline excepting two storylines that are about 3 or 4 eps each.

Ebichu (Ebichu: The Housekeeping Hamster): If you can find this old series, badly animated, very perverted, but very funny. The funniest anime I've ever seen. (and I've seen a LOT)

Akahori Gedou Hour Rabuge: This series almost makes no sense, never has a story that exceeds a single eps. Really funny (for the most part, some sad pieces of eps too), the only problem is the group subbing it is incredibly slow. Only 5 eps out so far.

Pani Poni Dash: Another really funny series, but you basically need to be an otaku, or have a similarly huge amount of series under your belt to understand almost anything. Game references, 70 and 80's anime references, recent references, references to series running in the same season as this show, historical references, movie references (Japanese and American), you name it, there is a part of PPD that refers to it.

Come to think of it, PPD covers the Japanese equivalent to Family Guy. With all the pop culture references and television/movie references that make Family Guy as funny as it is. The only problem is, like I said above, you'd need to be as similarly emmersed in Japanese pop culture history for PPD as you do in American pop culture to get all the jokes in Family Guy.

OFF TOPIC EDIT: Hah. I just noticed I made 666 posts.

Now I have to make this pun. Ebichu is devishly funny.

Humm sit-com anime... I'd say that Jungle wa Itsumo Hare nochi Guu is the closest thing to it, and really one of the funniest, if not the funniest anime out there...
