I agree. I think it's becaise in Hime they were students and in Otome they're designed with that mature look.
It's weird I couldn't get the ep to work no matter which player I used, yet I just tried it and it worked :/. The best part of ep belonged to Nao again, they need to make a third series based on her.

That was a pretty bad mistake on my part (I'd like to call it an incidental feature though ). In any case, it probably won't start playing because whatever you're using gets confused when it finds the aspect ratio (AR) set to 16:9 within the bitstream. Most players tend to ignore any AR flags within the bitstream, good players will detect them and play them at whatever specified AR (mplayer comes to mind), and iffy ones will try to do something strange/special with failure as the result (WMP/sometimes BSPlayer come to mind).Originally posted by: Aeon
Is anybody else having problems running this ep? It just won't start playing.
Anyway, there are a few easy solutions:
a. try it on a different player (mplayer, mpc)
b. install the CCCP before attempting playback
c. if you're on bsplayer, try changing the render mode to overlay 2
d. wait until the batch releases (where everything will be "fixed" or updated)
--the batch releases from Doremi will bring consistency to the newer (better) episodes since the earlier ones were not of... favorable quality; let's just say that I still collect Static Subs's releases
There's also another (guarenteed) solution that requires a bit more work:
http://www.tomjepp.co.uk/otome19fix.html
For those who do use players that will properly read and display AR, the AR for otome 19 is incorrect and should (easily) be overridden from 16:9 to 4:3 or square pixel. Some people actually liked it (my project leader being one of them), but just the same, sorry, won't happen again.
I've no real excuse for it; I just stupidly forgot to revert a setting I had used for a DVD rip (kamichu) while encoding a sample of karaoke I had made for it.
A question... is the number of eps (26) confirmed??? because if so, it will be the first time i see a 26 eps series change OP (I haven't seen that many though... and I don't watch OPs that much)
I seriously doubt itll only be 26 episodes. I had the impression this was gonna be a long anime from the first episode I watched. Not much happens in one episode so there must be at east 50 or thats what I think.
hope you're right about that..
even tho the series seemed very freakish and weird after watching Mai-Hime it got cooler the more i saw of it.. and dun wan it to end now >_<...
btw... to those who dont know, there is currently being made a Mai-Hime movie that is supp to come out this fall in japan, trailer is online, i just seem to have forgotten where i got the trailer from >_>......
What have we here, now? A Mikoto ghost in the harmonium? I suppose that makes it a haunted harmonium... Nagi probably wasn't expecting that.
I really like it how Nagi depicts himself as some saviour and general benefactor to the world. And at the same time he's always wickedly grinning. It's as if he's joking yet still judging if the others really believe what he's saying. A fine villain, to say the least.
Some pretty clear parallels with Shizuru and Tomoe with the captive Natsuki by Shizuru in Hime.
We got to see Nina's past though. I noticed the tiny gold basket in the room where Sergey found her. That all but confirms she's Rena's daughter (or the princess since the old lady could've still been wrong). It kept going back and forth, so at this point I have no choice but to question whether or not the old lady was telling the truth.
Nina is actually very aggravating. She wants Major Wong to see her as more than a daughter, but at the same time shivers at the thought of him no longer being a father after he turns around. She feels betrayed but still longs to be accepted by him, even though he always has. Arika needs to slap some sense into her.
It seems like Mashiro and Arika will be formally joining up with Midori and the Black Valley to stop Nagi and that other bastard.
I know that they pounded through Hime and tied up most if not all of the loose ends in Hime, but there are only 6 eps left if it follows standard 26 eps season. There's just too much left to address and not enough is happening in the eps anymore. If they pull it off I'll be very impressed.
yea... after seeing episode 20... even MORE stuff is happening. and the pacing is is kinda slow... well I learned that Eureka seven was more than 26 eps when episode 27 aired.Originally posted by: KaosSinner

i'll be so damn happy if its more than 26 esps. Mai - Hime felt rushed at the end and could've slowed down a bit
I don't see how it'd go past 26 eps and I'd be disappointed if they did. Everything's coming together, in my opinion. What I'm a little discontent with is the fact that they took about 16-17 episodes to lay all the groundwork before getting to the meat of the storyline. It made for a more devastating impact, I guess, but damn, did I really have to deal with a spoiled Mashiro-chan for that long?
The cool thing about the setup of this show is that power can be based solely on Otome. So in a one episode fight they can spin the downfall of a nation out of it. Before Nagi's invasion we hadn't seen any military power displays at all, and from all the Otome performances so for it's quite likely that the Pillars would have laid the smack down on his little invasion if they could have used their robes.
And what's the deal with Natsuki and Shizuru? After the sad aftermath of HiME's thwarted love are they really connected now? Apparently Natsuki knows when bad things are happening to her woman, and Shizuru is so awesome with her straight face as the disallusioned teen tried to bed her. As if she's not disgusted, just not interested in Tomoe in that way.
Finally Tomoe joins the dark side, I was reminded of Shizuru and Natsuki by that scene. By the looks of things it seems like Chie is infiltrating the Valkries, I expect a battle between her and Tomoe.

Episode 21
Not much actually happened. okay, that's not true. its just that, if this show is 26 eps long... then end is near. and that is pissing me off.
Mashiro is acting like a leader... which is neat. That giant rock monster is finally dead! and what the HELL were Shizuru and Tomoe doing!!?
Heh. That is indeed a good question... Although I'm not all too sure I even want to know.Originally posted by: Darknodin

Hopefully there will be more action in the next episode. In fact compared to Mai-Hime, I think this show is seriously lacking in good fighting. Even the most promising battle between Nina and Arika was cut so short by that nuclear explosion. And now it looks like Arika may only fight against those new prototype otomes, and frankly I don't think they can keep up against Arika for a terribly long time (if Arika really wants to fight, that is).
I don't know what Major Wong is planning, but I would be quite surprised if he indeed tried to eliminate Arika. But considering he already once betrayed Nagi, I don't think the evil genius kid is going to give him much room for new plots.
Aye, it should be an interesting next episode.
