lots of good discussion going on here.
Nathan... wtf? I got my hopes up too, that he'd be a Chevalier from before Saya and Diva, but it seems not to be. He got cut pretty good, and I felt he was dead gone. Nai is right, it's a friggin huge plot hole that he'd know Diva would lose her potency after bearing children but Amschel did not know. I mean, the one guy friggin studied her for over 100 years, and the other one (a theatre queen) figures it out and doesn't tell anyone?
At first I thought Solomon wasn't dead, but it's fairly clear he didn't make it out of that alley. They could have given him more air time on his send-off though...
What makes everyone so sure that Amschel is dead? I'm not sure why (maybe it's just hoping there will be more action in this show), but I don't believe he's done yet. Yeah he got owned pretty royally (BS fight btw, but good animation), but part of me doesn't want to accept that the final episode will really be a bunch of melodrama.
...but part of me knows it will be... Saya won't kill the kids. Haji loves her so he won't mind if she breaks the promise, and Kai will be the one screaming and yelling about how it doesn't matter that she has dracula blood, that she can be just as human as anyone else. And of course it'll work for the happy ending.
I certainly thought David, or at least Joel, would be sacrificial pieces towards the end. But even Lewis and Lulu look like they're going to make it...
Body count for the good guys:
Riku, George, all the damn Schiff (minus Lulu) and some Red Shield people that never lasted longer than two episodes... That's pretty low, especially when you consider there was nothing to help the Schiff, and most of them died before becoming good guys really...
Last loose end to clear up is Van Argeno and the Americans. That subplot always seemed pretty hazy, and ultimately it looks like they were all just patsies for Amschel. Aside from getting those Corpse Corp for the Schif to fight they really didn't have any affect on the story at all (as Amschel would have probably engineered something anyway, albeit with different partys involved)...
edit - rewatched the opening of the fight with Amschel. He lands first, suggesting he lead Haji down there for a reason.
Right before Hagi lands we see a mannequin with a blue dress flapping from the force of the two, and then Haji materializes next to it. Haji lunges, Amschel counters, the two switch sides. Haji throws a knife and Amschel shoots a fireball to block it, remaining on his side. They talk.
After Haji transforms Amschel asks "Does it take decapitation or total incenaration to kill a Chevalier?" While taking off his ring.
A quick shot of Haji.
A slow pan focusing on the mannequin. Amschel laughs and says that he must transform. Camera stays focused on the mannequin while Amschel's hand puts the ring inside. The second he puts it down he turns to fight.
Maybe I'm looking into this too much. But Amschel leading Hagi down there, taking measures to be next to the mannequin before the fight gets serious, and his question, plus the symbol of the mannequin "the fake body" all seem to be screaming that something is amiss here. It's still a wild theory, but I think Amschel is not dead.
