Now as for the episode, what can I say ... I want more o.O
two things... is Shiro dead? Shana defeated him, but he seemed like a really powerful tomogara. and we'll probably see wilhelmina again soon i guess.
As I see it, he was kinda dead already... But now he is for sure, mainly because he finished his promise with the flame haze before Shana...
I think he was dead also, the only thing that kept him alive was the promise to the woman he loved. Also it seems like Alastor is huge if Shana cape is only a fracture of his wing, no wonder his host dies by summoning him.

i bet alastor is a dragon or something, that would be sweet. This episode was pretty awesome, and too bad shiro died, he was a good skeleton. I kinda get the feeling that he let shana kill him.
What's this about the host dying to summon Alastor, what does 'summoning' him even mean? And what actually happened to the old Flame Haired Red Eyed Hunter, do we know? This flashback secquence was greatl, it answered good questions to answer and was cool, I'm so used to transitional episodes being recaps of old footage and this was a really great change... and also I think that there's a tie in with the upcoming arc, that weird lady that said "somone has died" as Shana was fighting the Tenmoku Ikko was the one sitting across from the glasses guy when he was talking about the Rejii Maigo in ep 14.
Last episode Alastor revealed that his Flame Haze's are given a special spell that summons him from the Guze world. When that spell is activated it breaks his container. The old flame haired hunter was killed after using the spell to stop Shiro. I'm also looking forward to the girl with 3 eyes finally showing herself.

I really liked this episode, a good way of wrapping up the flashback.
Tenmoku Ikko was one badass mofo. But, because he kept fighting Tomogara AND Flame Haze did that mean that he didn't care what side the eventual wielder of Nietono no Shana would be on? If a Tomogara had defeated him... A mercenary swagger indeed. I got the impression he was seeking a powerful wielder, no matter if they were good or evil.
Shiro's backstory was most enjoyable. A Tomogara falls in love with a Flame Haze, now that is an example of Fate being a bitch. Not eating humans for all those years must have been hell...
The woman who said "Oh, someone died." Seems to be the Queen Beryl figure of Masque Balle, the organization of Tomogara. I recall Vine-Eyes (motorcycle Tomogara) saying that she gave him that key some time ago. Looks like it was just an energy bomb that would go off when the host died, and also notify her of the death. And I'm sure when this person comes it'll be to get Yuji.
Next episode: Khamsin, a tuner, comes to town. That thing he/she carries is so damn big. Also, that girl who has a crush on Yuji finds out about Guze, or something along those lines. Should be interesting. Now we have 4 kids from Yuji's class who know about Guze. Wonder when Ike will get clued in...
EDIT: I just found this on Point Blank, and I'm not sure what exactly it is, but as I'm DLing rather slowly right now I figured I'd post the links here. It is from Eclipse and is called Shakugan no Shanatan

EDIT again: Ok, ok. So I just watched "episode 1" of Shakugan no ShanaTAN. It's actually only about three minutes long, and it is pretty hilarious in parts. I love that they got the voice actors and animators to actually make fun of their own show. I always thought SHANA was a show that really played into all the anime stereotypes and vices, to the point of almost being campy. I won't spoil the premise of ShanaTAN for you though.

The new opening was pretty good. I still think I like the first one better. The "frame shudders" in this opening I thought were the best part.
I love that they opened with Oga and Satou's buddy talking about Satou (favorite character) and then Ike. Glad to hear they're committed to tagging along with Margery when the time to leave the city comes. Minor characters got a good amount of screentime in this ep, so I really liked it. It's also good that we got more info on Balle Masque, except I'm still wondering where Silver is and who that Green Flame was that Sydney recognized.
Kashim is a very familair character, but I can't make the connection. Still too hungover...
The concept of "tuning" really intrigues me, and I can't help but wonder how it might be done. Kashim said there was alot of distortion in the city from all the Torches (and, I assume, all the repairs done to cover up the constant battles). So I would imagine, to get the place back 'in tune', you would either need to raise the level of real souls or decrease the Torches. Kashim's recruiting Yukari as a Helper made me think that it was going to be the first way. But I don't know what kind of awesome power would be needed to create actual existence... and I doubt Kashim has that much ability.
So, the only viable option for tuning would be decreasing the Torch energy. That makes Yuji the number one priority, because his Reigi Magou keeps recharging every night, outputting infinite Torch energy into the environment. Yuji has been used to create tons of torches, do huge repairs to the city, and bring people back to life, so HE is the biggest source of distortion. So, as for what happens next, I see Kashim going at odds with Shana. Since Yuji is a great help in killing Tomogara (as support to Shana), Alastor, whose main priority is killing Tomogara will want him around. Kashim seems to be more about 'the big picture' and his Flame Haze probably doesn't care about killing Tomogara if it means creating tons of distortion. Yes, I realize that is all speculation on my part (without watching the preview btw), but I also think it sounds plausible.

I agree with masamuneehs about it being nice that devoted a good bit of screen time to the minor characters. But what Green Flame are you talking about? I don't remember anything about a green flame.
I wonder how exactly Yoshida will react when she finds out that Yuji is a torch. Maybe she'll find some sort of way to blame it on Shana. And I'm hoping the weapon on that kid back is a bazooka, it would just own if everyone is fighting with swords and magic and he whips out a bazooka.

That thing is big enough to be an anti aircraft gun...which would own. Definately not liking the new OP and ED over the old ones... add to that the new OP and ED for E7 that I don't like much either. Damn, this was a bad music night.
But anyway, Wilhemina rulz all and if she comes to town and recruits Ike then everyone will have a Flame Haze of their own, and I'm kinda dissappointed in the Hecate charachter, from the old OP I thought she'd be really baddass, the way the 'camera' approaches her makes it look like she's about to whip out dual swords and start cleaning house, now it seems like she's just an all powerful nun (probobly an evil nun).
@Aeon Your Yoshida theory sounds really likely and it would make for more good strife btwn the two.
