Chapter 116 is out.
While Yamato's actions were not really much of a shock, he still happens to defy the common Seinen hero's demeanor. Yui throws herself at him, and he has the foresight to realize that "indulging" himself would be a bad thing for the both of them. Yui takes it as a rejection of sorts, but her impulsiveness is very unusual for most heroines. Yui has...strange ideas about how to enter into a relationship that would be more than just pity sex. Yamato did the right thing again, whether he knew it or not.
This series is very impressive, specifically Yamato. He is by no means smart about how he goes about things, but manages to make the entire seinen genre new. Instead of most protagonists who get everything dropped into their laps, Yamato has to really work at it, and does. Through stubborness and determination he finally got Suzuka, and he lost her in a manner I can only call realistic. (Pay attention to your girlfriend, even if she's a stubborn bitch like Suzuka who never says what her problem with you is). When things actually do fall into his lap, he first bungles it with Honoka, and then amazingly recognizes how wrong it is with Yui's 'offering'. He makes a lot of mistakes, but Yamato has his moments.
This series is definitely one of the more revolutionary of the seinen/harem genre. There are not many other series like this one.
Yeah it definitely was a suprise when they broke up and the Yui part
Edit: Ch 117 is out

Honoka is back and prettier than ever! Hopefully she's gained the self confidence to make him hers alone this time, unless of course, she's too cool for him now. (Which she always was) More importantly, Yamato gave up on the idea of trying to communicate with Suzuka overseas.
My only regret is that he tossed all the money away that he should have saved to take Honoka out.
up to Chapter 120 already out. And Yamato is serious about running now that he is the captain.. and looks like there's gonna be a long wait before the next chapter becomes available. I think he go after Honoka again, but will be dumped.
Darn time jumps. I wanted to see the Interhigh race!
*bump*
This manga already has its last chapters out. It ends on Chapter 166.
Discussion:
Another great series ends. I like it how everything falls into place for Yamato and Suzuka. Although I still think they should have entitled it Yamato instead of Suzuka, since it seems to me they always concentrate on Yamato's life rather than Suzuka... even on some chapters Suzuka was not in it. XD But still a nice read. Hope they can make a second season of the anime out of this.
to those who have seen the anime, what chapter (even approximately) does the anime end in the manga? Im planning to read the rest of the story, but dont know where to start. Thanks!
Peace.
I finished the anime last night, then I continued the manga staying up all night and finishing where the anime left off. It was too addicting! This was my first anime/manga romance and I must say, I enjoyed it very much. Everything is so realistic.... Like you can see it happening in real life.
However, I believe that the anime stopped at the perfect spot in the manga. Those who haven't read the manga would have been satisfied. I would've stopped if I didn't know that the manga continued.
The ending in the manga was good too, but I think the anime's choice to end it at 72-73 was that much more satisfying. I wasn't really feeling the whole Suzuka getting pregnant thing and there wasn't enough track and field! I wanted to see Yamato beat Arima. But I like how everything fell into place for Yamato and Suzuka as well.
We find out that Suzuka went to study abroad because of Yamato's comment.... But I think it was also because the two of them were drifting apart right? That's why she sort of wanted to leave so things didn't get worst?
All in all, this was still a great series.
It'd be nice if the rest of the story got animated.
If you wanted more of the sports aspect of it, though sport manga is usually not my thing, you should definitely check out the author's other work Cross Over. Basketball centered, but very much the same kind of rivalry with Arima, with lots of good art and plenty of girls.
I've read basketball series before and hated them, but Crossover is really well done.
