Finally watched your photomanip tutorial Kage. Very good tutorial i must say, good work.

I have a question, you mentioned somewhere that you cut your renders with the pen tool, how exactly does this work? You think you could give us a tut on that? I'm starting to get annoyed by the limitations of the polygonal lasso tool.

Apperently, the pen tool is better than masking. I'm with PSJ on this one Kage. Your tuts kick ass, so make one por favor

u can try masking...i think it's the best method to cut out renders (even though it takes a while longer), because u actually "colour in" the parts u want, u can also use soft brushes for edges, then all the stuff in the centre can just be filled.

yea I just recently found this out

For anyone who doesnt know what masking is, its the second button from the left on the bottom of your layers pallete. When cutting stuff out or making things blend better, add a mask, take a soft black brush (0 hardness) and brush whatever you dont want. And just make the brush smaller and smaller as you go along.

pen tool is the professional way to go.
"masking" by kage's definition is actually "quick-mask mode"

masks are actually grayscale layers linked to image layers to hide parts of an image layer

how to use the pen tool:

First select the pen tool, I forgot to get a screencap of it, but its on the toolbar so find it lazy asses. Then go here and select this:

now just click and make a path along whatever your rendering. In this case it was already rendered so I just did a quick job, you should zoom in a couple times and get it perfect if you want a perfect render cut.

now once you connect them it'll be all one line then right click and:

now it'll say something like how much you wanna feather just leave it as 0 at hit ok, then it'll make a selection and grab a selection tool and right click-layer via cut

    thats about it
