Just wondering...what do you call those over-the-knee socks/pantyhose? Anime schoolgirls wear it a lot but real schoolgirls (via Google) only have those baggy socks.
I don't know if Japan calls them anything different, but the only name they've had in the States since the 90s is "thigh highs."

You call them the best clothing invention ever. ..or just thigh high stockings, if they're the kind that hold themselves up. The ones that are held up via the little straps are called garter stockings b/c they require a garter belt to wear.
Anyway, where I grew up they seemed to have fallen out of favor with most of the girls at the other schools with uniform requirements. You'd see a few here and there but most girls would wear shorts or sweats or tights under their skirts or long socks instead.
