Just watched Sympathy for Mr. Vengence last night. It was a bit slow but the ending was all worth it. This movie is from the director of Old Boy and is the first in a three part revenge Trilogy starting with Sympathy for Mr. Vengence, then Old Boy, and finally Sympathy for Lady Vengence (Have not seen this one yet). If you havn't seen any of these you must go see them now. Here are the IMDB pages for these movies.

Also I watched "Attack the Gas Station" very funny movie. Maybe more than usual since I was drinking during it, but it was very funny. Its about a goup of friends that well...attack a gas station, several times. Good fun, definately a must see.

Old Boy was one of the strangest Korean movies I've ever saw. If you like movies like that, check out H. And if you like movies like Attack the Gas Station watch Kick the Moon. It's about a 2 highschool kids that grow up, the nerd becomes a gang leader and the #1 fighter becomes a teacher. You can find them both at piratebay.

Oh yeah, dramas are sometimes funnier than the movies. Check out this site, it has all the new and old Asian drama series. http://www.d-addicts.com/forum...1e73980b&start=625

Haven't seen as many of these as I'd like, but I like Shaolin Soccer and it's ilk. Silly asian-style humor.

I don't like those artistic martial arts movies though (Flying Daggers for example). Pretty yes, but man, so boring.

You must see Kung Fu Hustle. Its by the same director who made Shaolin Soccer and he has improved a lot. The special effects are great. It has some of the best fighting scenes. The comedy moments are not so silly in this one.

yeah, but those aren't really asian movies... they aired in the US

    I don't feel like linking,
    "battle royale"
    "suicide circle"
    "versus"

those are some bad ass movies... especially battle royale.

Yeah I didn't like BR2 much, My Sassy Girl is one my favorites. BTW how do you guys understand the movies? I didn't think they made subs for some of those movies yet.

yea.... well i got some pirated dvds of them, so im guessing thats a reason...
My Sassy girl is also one of my faviourites, and i still would watch it regardless of the number or times ive seen it already.
PLUS windstruck is the first part of My Sassy Girl, so i reccommend for you to watch it first before watching Sassy Girl. But the wierd part is that in Windstruck, the girl is already a cop, and in sassy girl, she is still a student. Its like going back in time... hahaha.... wierd, but still, if you can manage to ignore that, you'll enjoy the movie. However, Windstruck isnt as good as Sassy Girl, because it feels like Windstruck dragged on for 40 minutes.... jeeze.

i love battle royale. i'm also a big fan of Takashi Miike (ichi the killer). several of his movies are already available on DVD in america. i just (finally) picked up Audition friday. it was only $14.99, i would recommend everyone here run out and buy it. but so far my favorite Miike film is the Happiness of the Katakuris. i also find the Stephen Chow films to be alot of fun.

    Battle Royale was awesome.

Takashi Miike, is great, Ichi the Killer was awesome.

Young and Dangerous was also made, Hong Kong triad shit.

also good is Zatoichi, Seven Samurai, and many more.

Ichi the Killer was so-so, it felt like they kept adding more gore and violence just for the shock value.

I love the Zatoichi series, even the black and white ones are worth it.

Yojimbo (The Bodyguard) is one of my all time favorites.

A Chinese Ghost Story was really good too, some action and some good comedy.

The Emperor and the Assassin was an OK period piece, and I've recently watched Hero (w/ Jet Li) and it was good if kinda artsy.

And I still really like Farwell My Concubine (drama, serious, very good but not alot of violence) and Hang the Red Lantern (also serious)

I asked in another thead, but I'll try again... Does anyone know the movie about the Japanese housewife who ties herself up in rope to get her husband's attention? Saw it in a class once, bothers me I can't remember the name.

    Dare mo shiranai (Nobody Knows)
This is a film ive been trying to find for some time with very little luck if possible id rather download it but have so far been unable to find a source.
Pirated DVD's not FTW when ya can't find what your looking for

Four siblings live happily with their mother in a small apartment in Tokyo. The children all have different fathers and have never been to school. The very existence of three of them has been hidden from the landlord. One day, the mother leaves behind a little money and a note, charging her oldest boy to look after the others. And so begins the children's odyssey, a journey nobody knows. Though engulfed by the cruel fate of abandonment, the four children do their best to survive in their own little world, devising and following their own set of rules. When they are forced to engage with the world outside their cocooned universe, the fragile balance that has sustained them collapses. Their innocent longing for their mother, their wary fascination toward the outside world, their anxiety over their increasingly desperate situation, their inarticulate cries, their kindness to each other, their determination to survive on wits and courage.

CANNES, France (AFP) - A teenage boy from Japan, Yagira Yuuya, won the Cannes film festival's Best Actor award for his role in the movie "Nobody Knows" by director Hirokazu Koreeda.

The film, which had its world premiere at Cannes before release in Japan in July, is based on a real-life story from 1988 in which four children born of different fathers who never went to school were abandoned by their mother and left to fend for themselves.

When tragedy struck, not a single resident in the building was aware of their existence.

"For 15 years I never stopped thinking about this," Koreeda told AFP in an interview at Cannes. "I wanted to show children surrounded by irresponsible adults. The oldest, who is 12, is the only person in the story to show a sense of responsibility right up until the end. This touched me."

The youngster, who was not at the ceremony as he had to fly home for exams, plays the oldest of the four children, who are aged between four and 12 in the film.

The youngster won ahead of several adults widely expected to scoop the prize -- Australia's Geoffrey Rush (news), the star of "The Life and Death of Peter Sellers", or young Mexican newcomer Gael Garcia Bernal, who plays Ernesto "Che" Guevara in "The Motorcycle Diaries."

I just finished watching Kung Fu Hustle, I didn't like it much. Some parts were really corny, but it did have some good action scenes.
