i read getting started topic but before i can get started what are some of the jobs a fansubber has to do? can somebody sort of give a list and a one line discription on each job plz?

I think the most sought job position is a timer... if you can become a good one it will greatly help groups out there... recently i've noticed less and less people willing to time...

Actually jobs needed always differ from one group to an other.
Although translator is the key job to start a group, I believe the most wanted people are skilled editors and quality checkers since those two need to be more than fluent with english... and lately they all seem to disappear.
Encoders are maybe the less wanted.
Timer is maybe the easier job to learn, but it's true that it lacks fast, accurate and motivated timers.

Yeah, but being an editor or quality checker is usually something that can't be learned (you can improve at some degree)... Either you are good at it, or you are not... period.
