    Go players?

Well the latest Go thread was over a year old so i figured resurecting it would be useless.

Are there any go players here? If so how strong are you? Where do you play? If you play online, what server? What's your user name on that server?

Me, i'm about 20 kyu. Were is a better word actually, haven't played in a looong time but rewatching the first HnG eps spawned my interest again. I play on Kiseido Go Server, haven't made a new user name yet but i plan to later tonight.

It's quite easy to learn. when you see HnG it looks harder than it is.

EDIT: Made a user. I'm Kurei, hanging in the swedish and english rooms. If any gotwooters play on Kiseido feel free to msg me about a game.

    Go players?

Can I get the link to play this game?
No one but the enemy will ever teach you how to destroy and conquer. Only the enemy shows you where you are weak. Only the enemy tells you when he is strong. And the rules of the game are what you can do to him and what you can stop him from doing to you. I am your enemy from now on. From now on, I am your teacher."

I'm going online now, will be on for a while i guess.

Here is the link to the site. You should read a guide on how to play before you start playing.

    Go players?

I used to play pretty regularly with a group of friends. Online play rated the best of us at about 9-10K IGS (which was more like 8-9K KGS). I was the second best, coming in at about 11K IGS-rating at my peak. But I haven't played a real game in probably a year and a half.

I played before HnG, but was probably around 18K before I got my friends involved and got into playing a lot more.

These days, I'm probably back down to 15-16K, maybe worse, just in accumulated rust.

I might be up for a game sometime, if I'm around. Look for complich8

    Go players?

I'm more of a lurker than a poster here, but I have some interest in Go so I decided to respond. I signed up on Kiseido as Augury and tried a game, but I'm not sure how much time I'll spend on the server. After one game I'm now ranked as [23k?]. If anybody wants a match I'll be happy to play. So far I've just done a whole lot of 9x9 games vs a computer on a program called igowin. HnG really lit up my interest like many others here, too.

    Go players?

Not easy as learning a new cardgame or connect four. It's quite easy to learn the basics but the game is deep, there are alot ot things to learn and you won't become a master at it within a few weeks. For example you will not be able to defeat say complich8 for at least 2 months or so.

    Useful newbie go player resources:

The Way To Go (courtesy the American Go Association) is the hands-down best introduction to basic concepts in the game.
Once you've got the basics down, Sensei's Library, GoBase.org and goproblems.com are all excellent resources.

For computer go (as in, versus a computer opponent), you can find GnuGo and various interfaces for it. For a human opponent, look into IGS and KGS. There's also Yahoo Go, but it's a bit less of an interesting and meaningful environment than IGS/KGS are.

The official IGS client, GlGo, also functions as a GnuGo interface, making it doubly useful. It's a must-have app.

You may have a local go club or association in your area... but that'll probably require some more resourcefulness to find, depending on where you are. Internet Go is all well and good, but there's a certain quality to actually sitting across from your opponent that's generally more appealing and motivating in the long run, I think.

edit: responded to wrong post. sheesh

Anyways, I used to play a little bit also. For Mac, you can d/l "Goban" to play go on your comp and the comp opponent I think is pretty good (ie, I suck). Plus, there's a joseki dictionary floating around for this Goban program so that you can study a bunch of formations if you'd like.

goban is primarily an interface for gnugo, incidentally.

Another good windows go app is The Many Faces of Go. It's a bit dated, but it's fairly strong and has an extensive study system (ie: studying joseki, fuseki, tesuji, solving problems, etc).
