i'm having a major problem with my LiteOn SOHW-1673S DVD (dual burner); it is just 3 month old. It reads and burns DVD media but suprisingly it neither burn nor read CD-Rs. It just happened the other day when it stopped reading and writing CD-Rs. It used to read and write CD-Rs.

does anybody know the reason or cause for this?
is there a solution? or is there anything i could tweak within my computer ( software or hardware wise) to make it work again?

what do i need to do? help! anybody?

    what burning software?

could be a hardware problem, could be a software problem. I dunno. Sounds like it might be a hardware issue though, in which case I'd suggest contacting Lite-On tech support, maybe getting an RMA.

    "Return Material Authorization".

Basically you call them up, tell them the problem, they try to determine if it sounds like defective hardware or not. If they think it is, they ship you a new one, you ship back the old one. Depending on their policies, if they do that they might either put a hold for the value of the drive on your credit card, or make you ship back first if you can't give them a credit card to put a hold on, or they may charge and reimburse. Generally you'll have to pay to ship your drive back to them, and they'll pay to ship your new drive to you. Many RMA's are done with refurbished/recertified parts though.

Before you do that, if you've got another computer you can plug it into, I'd recommend doing so. Just to verify that it's not the software.

Quick question have you tried updating?
No one but the enemy will ever teach you how to destroy and conquer. Only the enemy shows you where you are weak. Only the enemy tells you when he is strong. And the rules of the game are what you can do to him and what you can stop him from doing to you. I am your enemy from now on. From now on, I am your teacher."

thanks for the info complich8. i don't have RMA; i purchased it from a computer store and they didn't give me any warrantee card; the receipt will serve as the warrantee. i've verified it with another computer and same problem occured.

Just returned it to the store the other day, they said it'll take 2 to 3 weeks for testing; if there is a prob with the lens then a new one will be given to me. Sounds good, but i got a long time of waiting to do.

paulyboy, i checked for an update but there is none.
