This series could truly be used for faster than light travel, for the plot holes are vastly larger than the best imagined wormholes in space.

Yet there must be something strange and intriguing about it all (other than the pure comedic aspects such holes create continuously), because if it was any other series, I'd have dropped the whole thing dozens of episodes ago.

it's because the show, while ridden with shortcomings in plot continuity, still manages to weave an epicly thrilling tale about some very interesting characters that the viewer comes to love (and hate) over the course of the first 20 episodes or so. Much like a Dan Brown novel, the actual stand-alone quality of the plot and its composition are not so important as the feelings aroused in the viewer. It can be entertaining, even if it's full of holes.

Damn it. Sometimes it's just too much. Couldn't finish one episode because the plot hole was so enourmous it was about to swallow not only my intellect but the whole building around me. Gotta give this some time.

One thing I really wonder is why they keep saying Rheinhard is as brilliant as Yang, when in reality for the larger part of the series Rheinhard has shown no more wits that some regular soldier from the rows whereas Yang is all the time predicting every move of his enemies (unless not predicting them gives better results) and winning every fight. Well, at least up till 69.5 episodes. Perhaps Rheinhard will recall at some point where he forgot his brain and will retrieve it (along with the brains of his supposedly equally competent commanders who in reality aren't any better than the average corporals from my army times).

I sound too angry and bitter... But it's such a good series. It would have deserved a carefully written script.

holy shit! they finally finished all 110 episodes!

absolute awesome hats off to those guys at Central Anime. That is what I call dedication. I'm off to get familiar again with this epic (stopped around episode 50 due to lack of subs a long time ago...)

Download the entire series here: http://a.scarywater.net/ca/

This is it. This is space opera. I really recommend this show to anyone who likes a good, serious war drama. If you ever felt that Gundam is too cheesy or that most shounen series fails at delivering all of the aspects of military life, the politics behind it, and the impact on regular people, this is one that leaves no stone unturned. Also has awesome voice acting and superb writing (which CA re-captures perfectly with their subs)

So, I've noticed Central Anime are currently releasing "Legend of Galactic Heroes: Spiral Labyrinth". Does anyone know what this is and when/where it takes place? I'd search around, but I'm a bit afraid of catching spoilers in case it's a sequel. I doubt it is though, it's probably some backstory on a character or something(which is great too). I'll probably check it out soon anyway.

    It's here: http://a.scarywater.net/ca/

The Gaidens are mostly backstories on the main characters (prequels, if you will)

    The order is roughly:
    Golden Wings
A hundred billion stars, a hundred billion lights
    Spiral Labyrinth

I've yet to watch them though.

Golden Wings seems to be about when Reinhard and Kircheis were boys (Yang is in it too, at least in the credits page)
100 Billion Stars is around the time Reinhard is sent on his first mission
Spiral Labyrinth seems to focus more on Yang, around the time of El Facile.

Ok, thanks. Was hoping it would be more than a prequel, but it sounds interesting either way.

    Necromancer again...

So I did watch all of the show and its prequels.
I think it was worth watching despite many shortcomings.
I guess it's a rare gem in that it is quite serious and is not polluted with useless romance/drama/fanservice but still keeps you wanting for more.
The very old anime drawings/tech and format took a time getting to, as this wasn't a show I had nostalgia for as for KOR or Maison Ikkoku.

It's a shame the story is closed, because there are interesting bases for an after. I can't write much more not to spoil the fun though.
I guess the show did well, with the so many episodes it had. It really did well since it was purely OVA from what I understand.
Since it did so well for so long, it probably was enough for the guys who had this project and probably had to move to other works.

I had seen ratings on anidb for years, decided it was too old and probably wouldn't suit my tastes. I'm glad I finally decided to give it a try.

All the things I really like to do are either illegal, immoral, or fattening. And then: Golf.
