A story I have to tell- right about the time Esca first aired in Japan, I was a very big D&D geek (still am, just not as much)-
I was running a very large game with a core group of about 4 players, with as many as 10 some nights.
The game revolved around a group of adventurers in my own fantasy world, sorta fantasy with a few sci fi elements (mostly stolen from final fantasy,- airships, steam tech etc..)
The main plaot was about a time traveling group of mages seeking to control the fate of the world, with a few "modern" references thrown in.
    Starting to sound familiar yet?
The player characters were a female bard with psychic abilities, a young human prince disinhereted from his kingdom, a huge powerful swordsman of legendary skill,
and a mercenary thief that was a flamboyant playboy with more gold than sense....
Throw in a magical airship, a villian closely related (hidden in plain sight in a way to make them unrecognizable) and a characters who learn to control powers way beyond their control and ancient races that have been hunted to exstinction, and you have the basis for my game.
The first time we all sat around and watched Escaflowne I seriously thought my home was bugged and my ideas were being stolen. It was like every adventure I ran was being animated and broadcast to the world.
Yes, I know it was all a coincidence and most of the plot points were borrowed from othe sources in both cases, but it was really uncanny.
And yes, I also know how totaly geek this makes me, just take this stab in to further public humiliation as further proof as the veracity of my story.

On a more on topic note, love the show- great music, great story, great magi-mecha.
Anyone else crack up at the "sword of omens" switch blade sword? Thundercats, Ho!

I absolutely absolutely hated it when Folken died... and the two cat sisters (can't remember their names) that were totally enamoured with Folken-sama. So sad!!! *tears welling up*
Oh and yes, I like the wings A LOT. Black wings for Folken, and white wings for Van. I love how when they spread their wings, there'll always be some stray feathers floating around... so romantic haha.
And the music is absolutely fantastic.
