He seems to stick to his word when it isn't a large inconvenience, and it seems that he feels that certain things should be rewarded. I would say it is just his character, which I find interesting =)

EDIT: What assertn said too

To suppress his sub-consiousness..... Oro did mention that a part of the person will still exist in his sub-consiousness. That's what I thought..... making him give up on his own accord and granting him a last wish makes him mentally weaker.

heh i just watched this ep, and i gotta say i was pretty impressed with some of the fight, right up untill all of the kage bunshins were hitting kabuto, that just looked shit. also i now groan when i see the rasengan in the filler i thought the point of creating the clone for the rasengan was so it could be perfect and not have any chakra leakage, in which it shouldve blown a huge hole through his torso. also wat jounin in their right mind would sacrifice himself to kill naruto thats just sutpid.

and anyways why didnt naruto ask the fox fox for help huh, he was about to die, he couldve blackmailed the fox like he always does and turned into the form where the chakra surrounds him like against sasuke, damn writers ruin all my fun

Well I guess it -is- a cool part of Oro's character that he keeps his word about those things (if that's the case).
Personally I believe more in Psyke's view, that it'd make the victim mentally weaker.
Somehow I just can't grasp the concept of Oro being coldhearted as fuck and then all of a sudden granting wishes.

i wouldnt say that oro is "coldhearted as fuck"
he just happens to have desires that are often frowned upon

oro is the kind of person who awards people who are loyal or subordinate to his cause

i like to compare him to "the godfather"

but that joke's old.
So yeah I agree with Assertn, he's like the godfather.

<@Terra> he told me this, "man actually meeting terra is so fucking big", and he started crying. Then he bought me hot dogs

I totally disagree with the Godfather comparison on Oro! The Godfather is the authority figure within an organization of closely- knit family and friends. The Godfather works to maintain and further his Family's standing and to protect each member as best he can. The Godfather grants favors when that person can come back and help him later, BUT the Godfather also gets involved in certain 'favors' solely for another's benefit, even if the request is hard or troublesome for him to fulfill.

Orochimaru, on the other hand, is all about himself. He gladly sacrifices anything and anyone in order to further his study of jutsu. He grants people favors (and this is just my opinion on him, not any cold hard fact) only when they don't cost him much time or trouble AND when he believes that person will help him out with an equally large favor. Oro doesn't care about the Sound at all, they're just another tool to be used and discarded when needed...

Did any of you guys ever see the Godfather (or even parts 2 or 3) ? Or where you stoned when you watched it or something...

Humans are different from animals. We must die for a reason. Now is the time for us to regulate ourselves and reclaim our dignity. The one who holds endless potential and displays his strength and kindness to the world. Only mankind has God, a power that allows us to go above and beyond what we are now, a God that we call "possibility".

I guess the Godfather is an interesting take on Orochimaru, though I see him as a bit more selfish incarnation of him.
While the whole "subordinates are rewarded" thing is there, I doubt Oro sees his sound ninjas as an actual family.

Orochimaru seduces desperate people to willingly die for nothing...he could hardly get any more evil than that.
Anyways that heart connection technique was the most fucked up thing ever...who would make a jutsu like that when there's stuff like kabuto's instant heart stopper touch available.

It was always Kagerou.

It's pretty funny by the way how Kagerou has performed not only one, but two, "instant kill" techniques on him/herself, yet lives long enough to tell our jolly band of heroes about why he/she was cosplaying Kabuto to begin with.

Naruto rule #1: Instant kill moves are never actually killing anything.

so maybe Oro's not so much like the Godfather.
But, I do understand why he rewards his underlings. When he took that guy's body and promised the freedom of his family, it's like him giving power to the sound five (and sasuke). What Psyke said is true too. I think if the guy's mind was fighting back, and not subdued with that promise, then it'd probably given Mr. Oro trouble that he'd rather not have dealt with.

Btw, I'm pursuing this subject because it's semi-relevent, and I don't wanna talk about this episode. XP

Of course, whose to say he ever granted the wish? I only heard Oro SAY he'd free the guys clan. I've never seen anything that showed him doing it.
