Wow.. Have any of you seen this anime Zipang? It's being subbed by Digital Panic. And I have to say it's an excellent anime, yet no fansubbers touched it last season though it was out last season. Strange.

To find the torrents, check animesuki.com

Anyway, the story is about this Japanese Aegis cruiser that during a practice mission with some US warships, went through a horrible magnetic storm, and was suddenly hurdled back in time to 1942 during the battle of Midway.

And the issues that plague them, on how they are going to avoid or go and change the timeline when they have all the information about WW2, that their very presence may change the face of the war. Their dilemma is further complicated after they rescue a high ranking seaman when his plane crashed into the sea, someone who was supposed to die in the real time line.

Excellent anime, and I recommend to all who enjoy war and history.

So far it seems to be coming out once a week. Pretty alright if you ask me.

    Currently it's episode 6 out of 24.

Really good show here. Animation designs remind me of patlabor for some reason.
The also get points for not really "choosing sides" when telling a story set in ww2- really hard to do considering how hard the US and Japan fought.
I also like the attention to the hardware they give in this show.
Aegis vs Yamato- who would win? Heh.....

Heheh. I think Aegis should win as they approach one another. They have tactical missle's which can take out Yamamoto from miles before coming close which are very very much more accurate than Yamamoto's giant cannons.
Though close combat, if they ever could get that close, Aegis could be blown straight out of the water.

GOod thing I introduced this anime. TO be honest, this anime is really a gem gone unnoticed . Great to have some other people watching it so we can discuss it as well. Feels better that I'm not alone. Haha.

I don't want to be picky, but that wouldn't be the case. Even a smaller battleship (say an old Queen Elizabeth-class or one of the Italian battleships) would be nigh-on invulnerable to a modern warship, let alone a monster like the Yamato. A modern anti-ship missile simply doesn't deliver enough energy to get through a foot or more of armour plate. I suppose you could torpedo the steering gear, but you wouldn't be able to get close enough before getting blown out of the water by the battleship's big guns. You could nuke it, or bomb it with aircraft, but missiles would have no effect....

Back on-topic, I'll check this out. Sound like it could be interesting.

Anyone else still watching this? I think this is a great one. Reminds me of an old hollywood movie, where an american aircraft carrier happened the same.

Subs are out up to Ep 8 from DP.

Hmm... Sounds very interesting. I also remember that live action movie Nachtvogel mentioned. Not a great movie by any standards, but because I still remember it (although not the name), it had a nice enough idea. It looks like ep #11 is the latest subbed so far, by DP. Quite a long subbing project, all in all...

Actually, I'll try to check this one out promptly... Dling...

Edit: After 2 episodes, it looks like a decent series. Technical facts seem to be handled very well indeed. The characters feel a bit stereotypical, but on the other hand, it might be too early to evaluate that after just a couple of eps. It's a pity, though, that modern Japanese warships don't have more females onboard...

Yea... i've caught up... to ep 11 and well this series get REALLY good... i won't say anything in case of spoilers even though the mystery is still very deep at ep 11 (you'll see what i'm talking about)... now i have to WAIT... damn!

Aye. Now that I have also watched all the 11 eps released so far, I can also say this is a really good, high quality series. I'm not a great fan of the rather clumsy human designs they have used, but it's tolerable, because there aren't practically any chicks...

What I really like is the political tension and realism, which seems very solid so far. It feels so real when right from the beginning their good plans always seem to fall a little short or clash with the accordingly good plans of others, and compromises or changes of plans ensue. And furthermore it's great how the various characters all seem to have their own plans and goals, and it's only up to the nature of the character how far he can proceed with those plans, or if he just gives up and does what he's told to do or expected to do.

And some details are just great, like the whole circle with the handgun (the choice of escort). Things like that have a deep psychological dimension.

What i find nice is that, while i've heard a lot about the american and british sides of this war, i hadn't heard anything from the japanese point of view. so i'm learning a lot. also, their reactions to what is happening to them are very realistic (how would YOU feel if you were to find yourself in the middle of a war LOST by your country). One thing (i don't believe it is a spoiler since its only minor characters saying this... and in the first ep... but what's that thing with some thinking they have a reason to be there, like the heavens sent them? is that line of thought still prevalent in Japan (finding a meaning in everything kinda stuff)?

    Zipang! Episode 12 by DigitalPanic

i really have to start watching this show... i'm just so busy and juggling other animes. i dont have time, but i think i'll probably just have to restrict my anime diet from some of the crappier shows out there...

Humans are different from animals. We must die for a reason. Now is the time for us to regulate ourselves and reclaim our dignity. The one who holds endless potential and displays his strength and kindness to the world. Only mankind has God, a power that allows us to go above and beyond what we are now, a God that we call "possibility".

Well, they certainly took their time with the ep 12... But for some odd reason I still remember what happened in the previous ep (I say odd because with many series I can't if the pause is longer than 1 week). I suppose this series must be quite memorable, and quite different.

Edit: Another excellent episode. The preview didn't make terribly much sense... But I'm sure it will next week (or whenever the next ep will be subbed).

Although the torrents might not be terribly lively. But it's definitively worth it to try.

haha don't read this if you haven't seen ep 12

They were played for fools it seems... but... what's he plan??? the 8th fleet could have destroyed the allieds then and there with minimal loss and retaken Guadalcanal... so why let the Mirai do it? maybe strike fear in the heart of allies??? or maybe Kusaka really wants to end the war without bloodshed?
