gmail is a email by google..its awesome..its got 1 gb of storage and you can search instead of sort mail..its amazing and all sorts of things..its got many many many amazing features..to many to list..
anyways the only way to get a account is to be invited..and you only get a invite by luck...i just happen to be lucky and have a invite to give....so if any of you are interested in it ill trade it for 1 month of japanese lessons..you could just email me and teach me how to speak basic japanese...this is a good deal and you wont be sorry..gmail is the greatest!

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I have some bad news for you. G-Mail by Google is in a testing period right now, and I have read that it will be ready for the public in a couple of weeks. So, I doubt that someone is going to exchange you a beta version of G-Mail for a month of Japanese lessons when they can just wait a couple of weeks for it to come out. It will be completly free and open to the public so there is really no reason for someone to take part in this exchange. Also, if you give your e-mail address to google, you can gain information about G-Mail and how the testing is going. You can do this here. They actually might give you a free beta account too if they feel its necessary. That pretty much sums up all I have to say

everyone is gonna have gmail soon.

There's this kind gotwoot forum user who awhile back was generous and patient enough to send me about three gigs of japanese lessons over aim. eww.....how often do you guys really use email anyway? im all about IM

all that email seems to get me is spam and viruses (which would be at least a dozen a day)

whats the point in emails? use an instant messenger prog if you need to talk to someone.... and there are always cellphones.... e mails arent needed anymore you can replace it with several other things.

email is like leaving people a note on their desk. its useful when you want the person to get a message or whatnot without seeing them online. also, in groups and such its much easier to just send emails than to add many people to your buddy list. it all depends on what you are doing

my friends are always online......the equivalent of leaving a note on their desk for me is IMing someone who has an away message up

You can't replace Email with IM. What the hell are you going to do when you need to send a message to someone living on the other side of the planet? Skip a whole night and wait for them to come on?! Ha!

Also when you log on an IM, you have a whole list of people who will see you and can talk to you. What if you only want to speak to one person, but all of a sudden, lots of ppl start talking to you? Block every single person down to the one you want to talk to? Feh. Give me a break.

IM is ok, but you can't replace email with it. Pretty narrow minded to think everyone is always on all the time.

yea but to me it seems like you have a pretty boring life if you got pen pals on the other side of the world(as long as they arent rl friends that moved or something) i can replace email with IM since i only use it to chat with my rl friends and one or two internet friends form my country. your second arguement are real bad, just tell the other friend that you are busy or something like that.

Meh, it's really annoying to tell like 20 people everytime you logon that you're busy you know? So it isn't such a bad point.

some people have learned to live without email but that doesnt mean everyone else has thrown it out. i mean, i leave my away message on all the time so if i dont want to talk to someone i just ignore them and they dont get mad, so not wanting to talk to someone is not an issue for me but i still couldnt do without email.

google's gotta make some loot, i just got a couple accounts, they're tight. they're not tracing, just searching for certain already established keywords to adjust the small text only ads they put up. so far gmail has been fast loading, unlike the server busy notes i get from hotmail

for me, gmail been pretty buggy. the servers have sometimes been really slow and sometimes not even work at all. and i dont like how they are obssessed with archinving. sure, they give you 1gb of storage but there is still stuff i would like to delete. it took me like 5 minutes to find out that the delete was under that drop down menu instead of being a button. they need to tweak their interface for sure.

werks gr8 4 me, deletion is hard to do, mainly since they want to search it, but the extra space is welcome for me

G-maill may keep a copy of your e-mails on their servers after you delete them, but it's something that all free e-mail providers do. I was supposed to be sent a gmail invitation (one of my friends had 10 invites to give out), but I never got mine. Maybe he screwed up my email address or something (or maybe Yahoo! Mail is blocking out gmail's invites now? o.O). Oh well. I was curious anyway.

I've got Yahoo! and it's pretty fine for me. The ads are flash images, but they're out of the way, so I'm not bothered by the ads as much (there was one point where they used pop-up ads for like a week.. I hated using Yahoo! mail that week...). I was also really happy with the upgrade too, since before it I was like 90% full most of the time.

i'll give away invitations as i get them, and update this thread. thats how i got mine so why not share [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

yeah both hotmail and yahoo upgraded their junx now, makes me wonder why they didn't do it so much earlier than now. silly 1mb attachment limits

i was just going to use gmail solely but now i guess i'll hang on to these ones too.

probably what i use email for the most is communication with my university

It's simple:

-IM is for talking to close relatives (or people you meet in chatrooms/forums)
-E-mail is for the rest (or close relatives who don't have IM)

if they give u some invites it will be a red notice on the left of your inbox saying "invite friends", used to be on the top.

No problem for giving out invites, i already gave out ones to peoplle i know that wanted one, and I got mine from someone nice enough to give them out on forums, so i have no problem with it.

I have a friend who works for google and he offered us gmail acocounts before they went out to the public. I declined because I had heard the rumour that they scan your email text in great detail.

A stupid friend of mine signed up as gangsta@gmail.com in the hope that he can sell it P Diddy for loads of money later on, although I told him it probably wouldnt work. Although, im sure P Diddy would not want gangsta7453@gmail.com or something like that, so who knows.

You can use your gmail account for MSN Messenger... that's what I do.
