i've seen it to often. a real good anime is licensed by someone and poorly translated (naruto is named joe and so on) dubbed and broadcasted at prime times like 2 p.m.
i'm ok with that but then the realy horrofying stuff shows up. bad merchandising and kids Kids KIDS. they are talking about the anime all the time and are making up things i wouldn't make up if i were on crack. i hate it.

If it ever gets licenced and broadcasted on tv they should wait untill most people have digital cable and you can choose languages. They should use the fansub translations because they can't translate properly.

Exactly. Higher quality dubs are more and more common now a days. Funimation has improved from their DBZ days, Viz and Bandai have put out many good dubs with everything intact, and Geneon and Media Blasters are pretty good too. Yeah, it'd suck if 4Kids liscensed it and made their 'improvements' to it, but most of the dubbing companies would treat it with respect and release a subbed version anyways.

Most every proffesional sub are better than fansubs. I can think of very few exceptions to this rule. And besides, the subs will be available on DVD, and by buying the DVD's you support a show that you enjoy watching.

As for funi and DBZ.. maybe it's just that I never watched an ep of DBZ properly in jap but I thought the dub was pretty good... though I did see some moives in Jap and subbed..... MAN they ruined them with putting stupid Rock music into EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM. It doesn't suit them at all... and for the life of me I can't imagine rock music being used in movie 12 against Janemba but knowing them they are gonna shove it in anyway.

Nope, Funimation dubbed the first 2 seasons of DBZ, but they did it under strict orders of SABAN(not Bandai, although they have worked together in the past).
Does it matter? Well in the offical "translated" version in US Shonen Jump Naruto does yell "Shadow Doppleganger" instead of "kage bunshin no jutsu"... which really irks me.
Yeah, but it could be worse. It's still mostly the same, plus anime and manga's usually end up with different translations in the US.

If they show it on TV they will force people to watch the dub. Granted, you yourself could choose not to watch it, but the majority of people outside of Japan would only know a butchered, censored and dubbed version, like with Dragonball

For me living in Europe, it will be hard if Naruto gets licenced in the USA.
Due to Hollywood we are not allowed to have Code 1 DVDS.(they get horrible expensive)
And Yes I know a lot of those Stupid Dubs.
When they Translate it from Japanese (where I live),they normally do not change the Original Names because we have the Manga Translated with the original Names and the Jutsu's, but the Anime wil be cut in the Fighting Scences as they did with DBZ and InuYasha , therefore I prefer the Subs, or else I have to get the Raws and Watashi wa Nihon-go ga benkiyo o shite imasu.

Yeah, but even if it's shown on TV, the DVD's will have the uncut dub and the sub version. And if you care so much about Naruto, you'd buy the DVD's anyways, right?

i thnk japanese vioices are perfect for animes and english voices just dont do it for me. anime is better off left in japanese. the way it was meant to be
if it gets licensed it gets licensed, theres nothing we can do about it
we're not exactly a fanbase that can determine how the series goes seeing as we're an unofficial fanbase - the series is aimed at people in japan and if its popular there then they'll see about dubbing it overseas
also many series dont get dubbed no matter how popular they are, it depends on their appeal to overseas audiences. DBZ was hugely popular and it took about 8 years for it to get dubbed and they just finished in the last few years, with still some movies undubbed
if Naruto does get dubbed in english then we wont see it for about 5 years after its finished in japan
The only reason I want it in the Us and stuff is because they won't translate over a Naruto game unless it's a anime in the US. Other then that I don't want it in the us because i like downloading it and the suspense.

But the manga and anime won't necessarly be translated the same way. Depending on who liscenses it, it'll probably be called either Kage Bunshin no Jutsu, or something like Shadow Clone Skill. Unless someone like 4Kids liscenses it, which would suck.

I've been wanting to watch True Naruto Style 3 for so long....thx...I was wondering if they were going to do 3.
If it's a good dub I'd buy it. If its just a subbed release when they license it I wouldn't waste my money buying or time watching. But yeah they should license it so they can get some money for there hard work.
My dvd of Ninja Scroll is translated w/ English dubbing has orginal japanese lingo along with french and spanish. the subtitles only come in english, but if you watch the dvd w/ english dubbing and english subs, its still way different. they add words, and take out a lot.
i first saw the movie "Metropilis" as a fansub, which was a really good fansub, and than weeks later they played it on TV on "showtime" and it was painful to watch. >_<

I would have no problem with the dub if the voice acting is decent. With dvd there could be option to change languages so hopefully it should work out.

Not possible with current technology to give a choice for language to be viewed in. It's all one language, and 99% of the population would rather watch something in English than Japanese. Just buy the DVDs.
But i think that anime is something special... it's japanese art.. and it should continue being that, Japanese dub, english sub.
Just hypothetical, why can't they under U.S Distibution have japanese dub, and english subtitles, why is that so "impossible". They always dub to english.. god damnit, the kids can read... and it's good learning the basic in japanese also as a bonus..
That may be, but the general american would rather watch it in English. Besides, dubs can be great sometimes.(Cowboy Bebop, anyone?)
But think about this...... if a foreign movie is released to the western world, they won't dub voices over the top, they'll use the original movie with subs.

Money is what would drive it here...if they can make it, they will bring it over, no matter who licenses it...
The only way it would remain remotely similar to the Japaneese style that is `Naruto` it would have to be licensed by a Naruto Fanatic over here in the US...

every anime that has been shown on tv here in the u.s. has had such bad voice over's. white people sounds too stupid and corny when they do voice over's for animes. example, cowboy bebop. jet sounds ok, but spike and faye sound retarded. spike needs a darker, more bad-ass voice and faye needs a foxier voice. they even screwed up on ein's voice over.

And you know that the villans say more than "it can't be!" right before they get their asses stomped. I am very tired of that line. There is no Japanese dub... the voices are real.
For most anime, that is. I havent seen an anime that was dubbed Japanese.
And i wonder why someone would think of dubbing a voice since it is so synchronized with the character.
How intelligent to wish that an anime never gets licensed.
No licensing means no DVD's. Hey, I want to buy a good anime on DVD instead of having an unofficial translation made by a fansubbing group over the original aired episode.
Whatever the english translated names will be, they will be official ones. What makes you think that the official translation will be anything like the ones made by fansubbers? Maybe it was not even meant that way.
I have Onegai Teacher on DVD and I like owning a DVD over downloading an unnofficial .avi from the internet.
Someone said that for good music, you need to hear, see and feel, and that is why internet will never surpass buying music from a store. You need to hear the music, see the cd and feel the cd. And I agree, and I think it applies for anime as well.
Licensing should also mean that posters and other nice stuff is brought as well. And I have nothing against that.
