You got that damn right. He may not be all that great looking ok but he is great, hes strong hes always saying something bizzare(like when he said he didnt want to have to the next match at the exams and then he gets it and says he knew he would get it because he asked for the opposite) that made me smile cause hes a funny character and he shows you that hard work does pay off. Hes great, my favorite character a log Neji(even though a evil bitch sometimes) KIBA and NARUTO and SHINO.

hmmm? i think the wrong message got through lol... what i meant to say was that if Gai decides to open his gates he would be quite a bit stronger than kakashi... yeah i think it was plain bad luck rock lee got gaara... hopefully he can recover enough and become a ninja again,.... i believe what kept lee away from neji was his whirling spin or whatever.... cos it can probably deflect anything lee threw at him at normal speed...

Seriously, the 5th gate opening seriously didn't do anything to the rest of Lee's body, only his arm/leg is insured cause of Gaara (that ash0le)

Lee got taken out because he wasnt popular at the time and something interesting needed to happen. In fact I remember alot of people hated him prior to the preliminary fights...

the whole lee garaa thing happened a bit differently in the manga but im not sure if it is spoiling or not so i just wont say anything.
i frankly doubt lee could have surpassed the 3rd... after there have to be a couple of ninjutsu's or genjutsu's which can defeat even the strongest taijutsu...

but the opening of gates only improves chakra flow to the muscles of the body.. it does not allow for better extraction or molding to do high level jutsu's... and the opening of gates dramatically increases wear and tear on ones body http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/emoticons/blink.gif ... not a technique you would wanna try...

I'm appalled that you people think Lee is un-good-looking. Is my taste in characters that messed up? It's true I thought he was a weirdo at first ... (as did almost everyone ... ) but I got over that when he saved Sakura (i'm a loser fangirl, I know). I think Lee is adorable, eyebrows and all.
Anyway .. um ... concerning the topic. For all that I love Lee and am terribly distraught that he had to suffer at the sands (PUN! laugh!) of Gaara, I think it was fitting. Lee wanted to finish the fight on his own, I believe, and Gai agreed with that. It was ... honourable, or something. Right?

They Want Naruto as their Goku not Lee. Goku pwned Neji in ep 62 it rocked when Naruto went ssj on him. Vegeta vs Goku's kaioken . No seriously you’re right tho. Lee was getting to strong to fast. I like lee and all, but with the way lee trains soon they would have had to rename the show Lee. So lee got hurt to slow down his progress.
Lee should have not opened any gates and just battled Gaara without the weights on.
Lee would say to Gaara, "I can keep going for 87 more hours. Your free to give up at any time."
Gaara would lose to Lee unless he transformed into *SPOILER*.
But then if Gaara did do that, then the 3rd Hokage would have stopped the match and destroyed *SPOILER*.

If Gai saved him earlier Lee had propably started whining about it, because Lee wanted to win, no matter what. And secondly, no-one knew that Gaaras sand attack would be that powerful. And I think that saving him after the sand attack was really better than nothing? After all... The other teachers didn't even try to save their pupils.

Hmmm i don't agree DB darling... you see, Lee was already moving at incredible speeds with the leg weights ON. and with them OFF... well... all i saw was Gaara's ass getting whupped. The opening of the gates was probably just to help Lee drop the little brat faster... of course in the end it did more harm than good... i think that if lee just kept hitting at gaara with that armor on... in the end we would seen an extremely bruised gaara... lol...

Lee is strong, but weaker than most of the other guys for some very basic reasons:
He can't use ninja/illusionary techniques
Hand-to-Hand isn't good enough to win every battle
He has to KILL HIMSELF to open the gates
Once he does open the gates, if there are still enemies he's dead
I do like him, but he can't beat everyone out there by a long shot.

Well i disagree... cos i think that gai's pride is such that he will not use forbidden techniques to defeat a fellow jounin... and you see kakashi using his sharingan eye to watch Lee attack Gaara... that shows that kakashi has not seen 5 gates being opened before.... then when you think that kakashi and gai are neck to neck in their abilities generally... thats when you realise that if Gai ever had to use the opening of his Celestial gates against kakashi then kakashi is really out of it...

Umm kakashi/gai/orochimaru/ the powerfull juunins would of probably held a better chance. I think kakashi/gai/orochimaru/3rd hokage would of killed Gaara pretty fast, and the others not as strong as kakashi/gai would fight a downhill battle.

You just haven't seen what the Chounins, Jounins and other could do so you believe that these Genins can beat anyone. I bet all of the Jounins at this point could take out the form Gaara was in (i know thats not the true him from earlier episodes; and considering he is a demon you dont know what he can do).
Actually thats is a good point.... just because Gaara's entitiy inside him is a demon, we don't know if it is uber strong like Kyuubi. It doesn't have to be that all demons are really strong.

refering to the gai vs kakashi thing.
i doubt either of them are going all out to the point where they're willing to use their most powerful jutsu. i mean, they're rivals, but there's a spark of mutual respect and friendship underneath it all (if not, one of them would certainly be dead). Also, keep in mind when compairing them that Kakashi is a brilliant strategist. It may be that Gai is much stronger in terms of brute force, but if he opened all his gates he'd just hit a shadow clone of Kakashi, or at the last second Kakashi would replace his body with something else.
Gai missed it when Gaara replaced his body while in the Lotus.
I don't know who'd win in a real fight, and no one will know unless we actaully see them fight each other to the death, but there's more to being a great ninja than pure power.
And about Gai jumping in. I agree with what a bunch of other poeple have said. Lee wanted to do it on his own, and if Gai had jumped in he would've undermined his trust in his pupil. Kakashi says he doesn't knwo if he wouldn't have done the same thing with Naruto or Sasuke. Sometimes you need to let poeple make mistakes so they can learn.
(maybe Lee will learn to be more cautious with his attacks or to wait for the proper moment, instead of just going all out from the beginning.)
I agree with the Kakashi Vs Gai thing... just as I can't see Gai opening his gates against Kakashi I can't see Kakashi using Chidori against him either.
