This is a good contribution to the section. Any pictures that you render, or cut out, you can post here for others to use. Save it as a .png though instead of .jpeg.

Make sure the bg is transparent and the only layer is that of the render itself.

I'll post some later when I get the chance.

Okay, so i have been looking around for renders for a while but 95% of them are fucking half naked schoolgirls, i'm getting sick of that stuff. If i see one more half naked 13 year old i'm going to fucking puke.

Here goes my question, does anyone know of any good render places that got good, cool anime renders and not just a majority of schoolgirls?

@PSJ: You should try looking for artbooks man. Their not rendered or anything but artbooks most of the time have really sweet renders for you to use. Hongfire Anime Network. This is where I used to get my artbooks until Hongfire decided to suck hardcore...If I find any other places to download artbooks, I'll be sure to post in this thread. In the meantime, here are the artbooks I currently have and would be glad to send to you or anybody that wants them:

@psj: I took it from some manga pages and it does have to do with Ichigo's bankai because that render is of his bankai release.

Good choice of a pic, but the quality is a bit rough. Or is it an early version?

Edit: I might as well post a link to one render... It was edited from some Rukia pic posted in the Bleach babes thread. I had to remove some text and effects and I also gave her a tiny bit more interesting hair colour. I made it to be used with windows blue background, though, and if placed on black, there could be a couple of small cell shading details to fix. But nothing major.

They are screen grabs from the actual show. I have tweaked the sharpness a little. Also I have touched up the images, like there were alot of "speed-stripes" on Braham and I filled out Wipers wing and gun. But overall the quality of the KF subs are so good that you won't need to do much.

I was wondering what techniques people use to give the render a 'cleaner' look? (LaZy I'm especially looking at you) and also what you meant when you say 'enhance' the image? Are you just referring to the NarutoMaster's Quality Enhancing technique from another thread, (Gaussian Blur 3.0 + Overlay/Hard Light), or is there some other procedure that I don't know of?

Appreciate feedback, will try to clean them up a bit.

Edit: To clarify 'cleaner', I meant exactly the cutting part. I actually used the Eraser to shave off as much of the background and stuff as possible, but the result is the rough cutting. Perhaps I'm using the wrong settings on my Eraser? (Opacity 100 - but Pressure Sensitivity connected to Opacity and Hard Edge enabled...)

What do you actually mean by a cleaner look? The pictures don't show any compression artefacts or problems like that. Your cutting is rough, but that's the only problem I see with your work. Nice choice of pics, anyhow.

are you using the pen tool to cut out renders?

Zinobi I used the Free-Select lasso to get as much of the pic as I could, but then I used an Eraser on that selection to cut out background and all of that...

O, I thought yall used liek 3DS Max or something and created teh images yourselfs xD

If thats the case, I can do that, Gotta go find me a nice image.

Use the pen tool. It gives a much cleaner and percise cut.

I use the Polygonal Lasso in photoshop and then go to Select>feather and feather the selection by a pixel or two... Works for me.

Won't feathering it cut off too much? =S

The pen tool is better than Poly-Lasso because it allows you to Easily go back and fix any error that might have been made.

Feathering just adds a kind of glow to whatever was cut, so is takes a bit off the render, but not enouph to effect how the work will come out.

Not if you only do it a pixel or two. If you go crazy with it you'll end up with a crap selection though. It is basically used to soften your selection to avoid jagged edges. :D

Sweetness, I'm gonna give this a shoot, Gotta find a decent pic though.

This is just my method so you may not like it. But until you try several different ways you won't find one you like. Good luck!

I have never tried the pen tool for this purpose. It's an interesting idea, though, and seems to be used a lot by people here, and the results are good. However, personally I just use the eraser or brush/mask. That's mainly because I have a Wacom tablet, and I more often than not end up touching the image here and there anyway, fixing minor (or major if needed) things, like originally clipped off parts of the body. Using the eraser is a pain with a mouse, but not with a tablet.

Well, I actually use Gimp so there isn't a Pen tool like the one described, but I did manage to create a Path and turn that into a selection. Still needed some erasing afterwards but this is the final result! Still having some trouble with the hair... crazy spiked bastards!

Oh, and I had to basically recreate the bottom half of the uzi, because it was covered in smoke (some is still left along the leg, but I think that looks sorta cool there) and that was an uber pain in the butt.

That's actually MP5k with the short magazine. Good work with it, though. I personally like enhancing and fixing pictures like that. Perhaps because I don't have the skills to draw them from scratch...

The fingers of the left hand could use a bit lighter cell shading.

Got another render. This one's from a doujin cover. It was alot easier to do than the last one, but the original quality was also much lower.

Kraco, I know I'm supposed to care about stuff like the left hand, but since I'm not using it in any of my own stuff I really am not going to go about fixing it that much... The fingers stand out where they are, but they match the rest of the skin tone pretty well
And, of course after I noticed how poor of a job I did on that hand I went and redid it... Not the skin tone though, just the crummy black edge around it

@PSJ: In that Bleach sig you made for DB_Hunter, do you have happen to have that image of Rukia? Its the exact same as this Rukia render I posted but she is in white clothing instead of the regular Shinigami colors. I thought that one looked much better and I was hoping you might still have it.

Ah sorry man, i didn't do that one. Mine was blue with Rukia's face in the background. Can't remember who did the one with white clothing.

I must be totally nuts for spending hours for this, but I wanted to finish it, despite all the trouble:

It's a composite made from screencaps of a recent episode of Magikano, further edited to replace hair on both sides that was cropped in the video. And there was insane amounts of colour bleeding (red from background). Fixing that, including cell shading, took obviously most of the time.

Thanks to BoC for posting the Noiseless Sharpening tutorial. That was used to enhance contrast / sharpness in the pic a little.


A small Momo render/edit (from Shinigami no Ballad) as a bonus here. It looks dull because it was made from the trailer material, which was, to say the least, of terrible quality.

I enhanced it to get those colors, but the original pic was very good quality to.
