Got to play a Rickenbacker bass yesterday for the first time. Those things are pretty rare to find in Guitar Center shops and the damn thing was $3,000+ so I played it as much as I could in the store.
Those things are known for their trebley sound and ringing sustain. Perfect for rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBlILzKoSnM
First kiss :)
I impressed a girl from Kazakhstan with my knowledge about her country, which, of course, comes solely from Borat skits.
I impressed a girl by knowing what causes earthquakes.
It didn't make me really smile, since I was more perplexed than pleased. It challenged my assumption that it was general knowledge.(Crust, Mantle, Current, Tectonic Plates, Fault Lines, Ring of Fire etc.)
She was an acedemically gifted Senior Highschool student, so she's not ingorant or anything. I guess it just goes back to the saying:
"I know what I happen to know."
Somebody doesn't know what causes them? Although in yesterday's newspaper there was a letter from somebody suspecting the Haiti earthquake had been manmade...
i'm on the phone w\ this guy for work and he's forgotten about me on hold.... I can't just hang up because I don't have his name or number and i need him to change something in our program.
He left me on speakerphone and he's bullshitting w\ people in some kind of thick arab accent. *sigh*
oh... he came back. after leaving me on speakerphone hold for about 10 minutes.
And that made you smile? :confused:Quote:

Whoooo ton of snow in the Northeast, so my Uni's closed.
Predicted to be 12 to 18 inches of snow. It's kinda sad, my cousin lives in Georgia and they close schools down when they get like 1 inch, but we need about a foot up here.
I showed up at the local theatre a few minutes ago. I asked what time opera tickets went on sale, and the lady at the counter said "in about half an hour." I thanked her and turned around. As I walked away she cried out in a desperate tone, "you're coming back, right!?"
Something about this makes me smile.
It's snowing here in Augusta, GA, which is very rare. :)
Looks like its going to end overnight, sadly.

Snow ending
Steady snow will taper off and end by the overnight hours. Cloudy with temperatures steady in the low 30s. Winds N at 5 to 10 mph. Additional snowfall of 1 to 2 inches through 1am.
edit. Someone made a youtube vid.
Haha, "global warming my ass" indeed, it hadn't snowed here in december for years either, it always started in like late januari, but now it has been snowing almost constantly since december here.
White Christmas and all :)
That's the danger of beautiful occasions like these. People will say "global warming my ass, it's snowing in Georgia!" The issue with global warming is that it causes adverse weather due to disruptions in the weather systems of the world. Snow in Georgia doesn't disprove global warming, it is evidence of it.
I calculated the amortization on my car loan, and thanks to a few hefty payments I've made when I had the money, I'm making out rather well. I've shaved about a year and a half on the term of my loan (and with it the interest!).
breakfast in bed FTW! (eggs+ham, waffles, bacon, orange juice, black tea :) ) WOOOT
I've never understood the joy of breakfast in bed. Crumbs and syrup everywhere, and I hate sleeping in filthy conditions.
The fact that I made this post from a DSi. :D
is the browser faster than the opera for normal ds? because that one was ridiculously slow..
I can't make the comparison because I never had the browser on my DS Fat. It is still Opera based.
It's slow, but that's because it doesn't have a lot of memory. Gotwoot and such works fine, but sites with lots of stuff all over like yahoo usually crash. You have to be patient. I'd say it is like having a 256k dialup connection.
I remembered when I used to play Unreal Tournament on my uncle's PC with a 56k connection which I thought was blazing.
I had a 28.8k connection using some crappy free Dial-up ISP. Oh, the memories.
My family's first modem was 9600 (2400 baud). It was only useful getting updates for Claris Works and checking the occasional newsgroup.
My family's first modem achieved speed of maximum 4kbps.
Unlocking system files on my phone made me smile.
I taught a few of my students how to play chess, and during S.S.R. they were trying to use their books to hide the fact that they were trying to finish their last chess match.
Chess.. damn how much time passed since i last played some..
You just made my day - now, that i remembered that they exist i can play them with someone.
See below Bill's post.

Unreal... Is that a hologram? I've never seen one before, but regardless that's pretty sweet, especially Luka's hair.
Can't wait till we close the gap and get real live anime characters!
Christ, it's like a live Gorillaz concert only with the weeaboo cranked up to 11.Quote:

I'm going to be playing at SXSW this week.

I don't think it has quite sunk in yet. It's extremely competitive for fledgling bands to get in. This is pretty huge, and I'm extremely lucky to have fallen in with the right people.
What do you mean by that? Is it not open to the public or something?Quote:

No no, it will likely be a free show and barely anyone will show up. Still, the exposure and cred we'll get from this can only help.
I meant that I'm lucky because I personally don't feel I've done anything to deserve a shot at playing there. I'm an average musician at best, we've only played a handful of shows, and much better bands were likely overlooked. Our frontman is just that type of guy though. He knows how to get in and get what he wants.
Edit: This also means I will be in Austin and can see Zooey Deschanel sing with her band. Holy crap, I am giddy.

Despite a great deal of things that pissed me off today (not worth mentioning), I pulled into a gas station that surprisingly had Full Service, and for the same price that the other Self-Serve stations had. It was awesome, I felt like I was back in 1994.
Note: My state does not have mandatory Full Service gas stations.
Man, I want to try full service one time. I've never seen on in Australia. Ever.
I haven't been back to a full-serve station since I started going to self-serve stations 10 years ago. I don't see that many full-serve stations any more but I know of at least one self-serve that offers full service for a few cents more per litre and there is a full-serve by my house which is across the street from a self-serve and there's only a 0.4 cent price difference between them.
What's the point? So you can just sit in your car? Its not like you can fill up and leave the gas station any faster than if you did it yourself. Seems novel, but I'd rather step outside anyway.
Fixed my damned X-fi again so now mic input works.
Finally my new Headphones were delivered(Roccat Kave 5.1 - they are damn awesome).
And party 2 days ago made me smile.
While I think full service is just laziness on the part of the elite, I imagine it's like buying off the rack versus getting a tailored suit. Nothing says "disposable income" like paying someone to pump your gas and wash your windshield while you idle away the time in your leather seats listening to music. Makes one feel "better" than others.
I've just finished my driving lessons - now i need to take mock theoretical exam and then the national exam... and pass it...and in Gdansk its the hardest one from all cities...
Lol I have been doing driving lessons for ages... I've spent like 5000$ or more so far. Is it expensive there too?Quote:

its 900-1000 pln(approx you can buy 1$ for 3,2 pln) for 30h of driving lessons + theory lessons. Each additional hour is 50pln. Practical exam costs 150pln and theory 100pln.
If you fail 3 exams you have to get 5 extra hours of driving.
P.s take into account that average earnings here are approx 2000 pln.
Also examinators in Gdansk are infamous for doing everything to make you fail the exam...
Haha. I remember I did a couple of minor mistakes during the driving examination but not enough or nothing that would have prevented it from being accepted. The one thing I specifically remember is that the examiner told me afterwards that I don't need to wait for every granny in the town to cross the street... (Although that certainly wasn't an actual offense as such.)
My main issue in my driving test was waiting too long at roundabouts.
Didn't stop me passing neither though.
Well, here its like this - you see a slow moving car FAR away and you are on sub route(that is you have to wait to get some free space on main route) - you would be able to do this damned left turn 5 times but if you try to even move forward you will fail - because you "forced him" to slow down...
Also the current director of PORD(equivalent of DMV for the gdansk) is a bastard - when he started his work number of people passing fell down by 30-40%.
And in the examination routes(that is the one with highest probability of being on exam) are badly marked - sometimes you have to know that the crossed section on the street does not exist - it was erased few years ago from plans but for some weird it is still on the street, and sometimes its the opposite..
Our hot water for our coffee maker / hot water dispenser isn't working... and there was absolute panic. There was more panic about the lack of coffee this morning than there was when our phone system was messed up yesterday.
Talk about ridiculous. I was literally on 2 simultaneous phone calls and hadsomebody coming into my office in a panic because there's no coffee... I have nothing to do w\ the coffee so i don't know what they were hoping that I could do for them. srsly... ridiculous stuff.

I've been making backup images of our home computers for years, but today was the first time I've had to use one. (One of our home PC's HDD died - no signs, just won't be detected).
Restoring full functionality in 10mins feels really good :)
Backups are awesome, you can't put a price on peace of mind :D
"I am not sure who started the Dishwasher, but whoever it was could you please go to the kitchen and clean up the overflow. It appears that dishwashing liquid was used in lieu of the Dishwasher Tablets."
This was an email I got that was sent to everybody in the company... it made me laugh because I had a mental image of soap suds all over the place.
My dad told me about how his colleague got fined $500 today:
1) Undercover police races you
2) You race at 150km/h
3) Police pulls in front of you
4) You tail the police
5) Police sounds siren
6) You pull over
7) Police fines you for speeding
8) Police fines you for tailing too closely (<2sec gap)
9) You curse
10) And you curse.
I didn't enjoy myself hearing this, but...
I smiled.
isn't that entrapment lol?
Heh, no idea. From what I gather, it wasn't "hey, let's race", but more like speeding silently next to you, daring you.
I remember some (non-police) guy did that to us before. Dad raced along with him until we met another car in front doing normal speed. We lined up next to that one and slowed down to match it, barricading the racer guy on the 2-lane street. (there was a concrete wall between us and the opposite lanes).
The guy was pissed and started tailing really really close. We tapped the breaks lightly and scared them shitless :P
I picked up my Associates Degree diploma today :)
I put alot more work into it than I did into all my highschool ventures.
I thought this was pretty funny... This is facebook. I know this girl... names changed to generic names. I just thought it was funny that some dude would call a girl out like that on facebook when she's married and everybody can see it.
Girl : im sitting in dr's office thinkn why me?
Some guy:
Bc u have the herps
Some guy:
whad Husband do now
Husband :
Jonathan, That isn't a appropriate thing to say to my wife... I think you owe her an apology.
How old are the husband and wife?
I think some people over a certain age just don't get the social dynamic of facebook or online communication in general. I haven't seen one person's mom/dad/aunt/grandma make a comment that wasn't incredibly awkward.
Anyway, I'm happy because I played my first ever show with a new band I joined. It was also the first time the sound guy did a decent job because the mix in the on-stage monitors was perfect. My own amp's tone was amazing as well. All the lows were low and beefy and the highs cut right through the guitars and drums.
So while talking to my mom today she mentions a curious incident that happened in my home country a few days ago. A guy finds out his wife is cheating on him. Naturally being the genius that he is, he decides to go kill the guy his wife was cheating on him with. I'm curious why they never go after the spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend whatever but that is for another time.
Anyway, he goes to the guy's job and proceeds to kill him and the guy's boss walks in, he unfortunately gets killed too. Now at some point our noble enraged husband decides that he is going to decapitate both his victims and personally deliver their heads to the police and he proceeds to do just that. Now here's the kicker, he removes their heads places them in a bucket and goes to the police station. Upon arriving he proudly places the bucket on a desk and declares to the officers present that he has brought them two heads. Naturally everyone wonders what the hell he is talking about and gathers around the bucket. I would assume that our culprit would have been covered in blood or would have at least had some wounds on his body to support his claim that he had just viciously murdered two men but apparently they didn't take him too seriously until he opened the bucket that is. At which point the group of officers around him, some of whom were armed, simultaneously took of running. At least that is how the story goes.

On a lighter note, playing Call of Duty today, Search and Destroy on Underpass. Very long, very intense game with every round coming down to a 1 on 1 stand off. Score is tied, round winner takes the match and naturally (yes I love using that word) it's down to one of my not so reliable friends vs one of the better players on the other team. He decides to camp out, puts down a claymore and begins the ever exhausting waiting game. Eventually he gets tired of it and begins to slowly move around vigilantly checking every corner, reacting to every single movement then nothing. He stops moving, stops looking around, stares up at the sky, pulls out a grenade, throws it at his feet and watches it as it goes off, thereby killing himself in quite spectacular fashion. We lose of course.but surprisingly no one is complaining, the guys we were playing against weren't even celebrating, no one is saying a thing. Everyone is simply wondering what the hell happened, then seemingly out of nowhere he suddenly says "Sorry guys I couldn't take the pressure." Uncontrollable laughter ensues :p
I should set up a thermal and/or hearbeat sensor and/or silencer class just for Underpass. The visibility on that map is low as hell. It's a bit like COD4's Downpour, but less building density and more foliage and hills.
As for your home country's police, I don't know whether to call them chickens or smart. Not smart enough to take the hint the first time maybe, but smart enough to recognise danger(?).
And, of course, not at all very responsible.
Got a free copy of assassin's creed 2 today, which is cool since I wanted to play it, but wasn't going to buy it cause of the shitty DRM.
But for the price of free, I can put up with it ;P.
Itsfunnyscary because it's true.

Who the hell are Robert Pattinson and Kristen Steward?
I'm smiling today because it's payday. Time to go get liquored up!
they are a two pretty decent actors, who got shamed into the worst casting in the universe:
Edward and Bella from Twilight.
it's a horrible fate for both of them, a shame that all the money they make from the movies won't be able to erase.
and they make a lot of money.
I'm stressing about my stats final tomorrow, but I just did the math and I need a 45 (out of 100) on the test to get a C to pass the class and a 69 if I want to excel with a B.
I think I'll settle for the C and save myself some gray hairs. If I get a B then that's icing on the cake. This makes me smile.
Yeah, those little numbers are always good to know.
It's kind of annoying sometimes for my program where we have to pass each individual component in some courses, so you get some cases where if you fail the last test, you fail the course. If you pass it however, you've got enough points to get a Credit (B).
No, I needed a C to pass a class. But I'm also required to pass each individual assessment piece to pass that class. So for my final piece of assessment that year, I would get a B overall if I merely passed the last exam (since the other assessments were pretty good). However, if I failed the exam itself (<50%), then I would have failed the class, since I wouldn't have passed each component.
Just finished my Cost/Budget final and it was pretty brutal.
The subject itself is pretty simple and straight forward. The test however was 10 questions with each being split into 3 separate parts. The professor would only count the question as correct if you got all 3 parts right. We're also given limited information so everything needed to be calculated and worked out. Since getting even just the numbers wrong mean missing the entire question, most of the time went to double checking every calculation.
I was among the first 10 to finish the test and it still took around 4 hours.
I had to goto work last night... I was out of town since wednesday and didn't have much sleep. I got there and had a total mental block when trying to open the door because I don't usually need to use the keypad.
So, I decided I would just use the back door. There's supposed to be 15 seconds allowed to disarm the alarm. I opened the door and hit a dead sprint all the way to the front of the office to turn off the alarm. I made it in 13 seconds but that didn't matter because it actually goes off right away !!!
But... since our permit was expired, the police were not dispatched and therefore I wasn't given a $500 ticket for false-alarm !
Certainly you wouldn't be paying it in any case if you were told there's a 15 seconds grace time. Whoever misinformed you would get the instant win ticket.
Besides, isn't it usually a security company that sends guards there? You must be a bank employee if real police come directly.
My cellphone's back from "repairs"!! (after... 4 weeks?)
Yet to see if there are any problems, so here's hoping.
