Yoma have the uncontrollable urges, instincts, to eat guts and do other inhumane things. Of course it could be argued humans as well have all manner of needs, but for simplicity's sake it could be assumed that humans aren't slaves to such urges. Keeping this in mind 50% yoma is, technically speaking, twice as much prone to not be able to control herself than 25% yoma. Basically the awakening is nothing more than giving in to the beast inside them. Of course individual differences might play even a bigger role. But statistically the average should obey such laws.
Although it bothers me greatly that the big shot awakened ones seem to be totally in control of themselves. In fact many ordinary Claymores are less controlled than them. But perhaps that's just the very top.
