We (well, more technically, one of my housemates) just recently got some original super nintendo controllers, so it's been SNES emulator games for the past week. We got through Super Mario World quite quickly, and now we're playing 3 player Secret of Mana. It's amazing how quickly that game comes back to me. I still remember all the plotline and short cuts. I love that game so much. We just defeated the wall boss in Pandora yesterday, and got random treasure from the king! Yay treasure! We're invincible!
3-PLAYER SECRET OF MANA!!!!
That is so fucking awesome!!!
I love that game to death, I actually have the original cart and let me tell you that's not a small feat in Sweden (where games such as that are incredibly obscure). MEMORIES!
Be sure to play Seiken Densetsu 3 afterwards. One of the best games I've ever played and the class system makes it even more diverse than Secret of Mana.
Secret of Mana was an awesome game, but I hated its sequel Legend of Mana. That game makes no sense and has no real storyline to it.
Legend of Mana blows goatballs. But actually Seiken Densetsu 3, which I mentioned, is also a sequel to Secret of Mana and is the one that came before Legend of Mana (which would be Seiken Densetsu 4, Secret of Mana being Seiken Densetsu 2).
So long story short, yeah, Legend of Mana and the games following it suck ass. Which is a shame, because SD2 & 3 are both brilliant.
Also, the intro in Legend of Mana is actually in swedish. Imagine my reaction when I played that game and heard a swedish voice open it up. I damn near almost fainted.
Just started playing Suikoden I since my ROM finally finished downloading...
But really guys i need a friend on Starcraft Broodwar. All my friends stop playing the time I was gone :(Quote:

well hopefully by 5 p.m I'll currently be playing KH2, and if I'm not then well people will probably pay.
Playing through Ninja Gaiden, again.
Civ 4. I'm getting my ass kicked by the aztecs :(
Just started playing FEAR. Currently at the beginning of level 5. I don't know about you, but so far it's not as scary as some people claim.
Kingdom Hearts 2. Awsome battle system :D
I just spent 70 hours over the last 9 days or so playing through Dragon Quest 8. The game's been mentioned here before, but I think it deserves more attention than it's gotten, so I'm going to give it some!
This game is a masterpiece -- one of the best, if not THE best rpg to land in the console realm since the PS2 came into existence.
The storyline is pretty predictable (as you'd expect from a DQ game), but the game handles it very well -- developing the main characters and several peripheral ones, as well as giving the villains some degree of depth (while still leaving him as a twisted caricature of a person). The plot remains focused, not entangling itself too heavily with any one thing, but not feeling like it's glossing over relevant parts either. And pacing is very consistent, and I'd say generally very good.
The game's world feels very, very large (it's a good 10 or 15 minute walk, avoiding battles and following the roads, to get from one city to another), but still remains navigable thanks to handy warp items and spells that you get fairly early on (and later "vehicles" of various types). So, epic size (ie: lots of freedom), but not so incredibly large as to make it too easy to get lost.
There's a good balance of character customizability, falling somewhere between the early locked in roles of FFX's sphere grid and the complete lack of character skillset differentiation in FF7. All characters have very specific strengths and weaknesses, and the weapon skill system is nice in that it lets you develop your characters to play a little differently and use different skills, while still keeping them very distinct.
Gameplay mechanics are powerlevel-friendly (there's a skill to immediately enter call a random battle, and there's some monsters that are just massive experience mines, that regularly show up in certain areas), but not game-breakingly so. You could beat the game with your level in the lower-mid 30's with a reasonable degree of challenge, or you could level moderately and take it at 45 like I did, or you could powerlevel for a hours and take it at level 60, and the final boss fight still wouldn't be stupidly easy. The random encounter rate is a little high (partly because the world is so big), but it's easy to adjust it down with an ability the hero learns fairly early, or with fairly inexpensive items -- so if you really want to just get to the next plot point or the next town, you can fire off one of those and go about your business largely unmolested. There's even an ability "intimidate" that you can use to scare weaker monsters off, which is kind of funny.
Probably the single strongest point of this game is the art, both visual and audio. Character (and some monster) designs by Akira Toriyama, with a beautifully immersive world (another thing it's got over FFX and many others: completely free camera control). The art style is tastefully cel-shaded 3d models. Other cel-shaded 3d games (windwaker, for example) generally feel a bit too cartoony, but DQ brings a very slick, vibrant anime feel, which just suits it incredibly well. It doesn't have the same sort of kiddie look that people associate with cel shading.
But the video isn't the only strong point. The music is incredibly well-composed, and after a couple hours I found myself humming along to the overworld theme. It's well-suited environmental music, which really captures the essence of the game very nicely.
The other side of the audio -- the voice acting and sound effects -- are also great. While the combat sound effects are a bit traditional, the voice acting is the most perfectly well-suited I could picture for the game. Unlike a lot of other games that have made it across the pacific, there's not a single time that the voice acting broke me out of the moment. It just really felt natural, with every voice sounding completely natural for the character that it was matched to. Nobody's caught out of character, there's no unnatural hitches as people try to synch lips to the Japanese track (partly because there was no Japanese track to synch to, and partly because
My only real complaint is that saving is more of a chore than I'm used to -- but that's offset by the fact that when you die, you just revive at the last save point, missing half your gold. You don't even lose items or anything, and about halfway through the game you get access to a "gold bank" that you can deposit your spare change in to keep it safe from the effects of accidental death.
Overall, this game is really excellent, and a fine example of an exceedingly well-done rpg. If you like the non-mmorpg console rpg genre at all, I would say that it's definitely a must-play game.
Currently playing, Keepsake.
crappy point & click game... and i already almost finish it, keepsake is so easy that it even allow you to resolve any of the puzzle in 4 mouse click...
I just beat Darkengard 2 and have to get the 2 secret endings. I liked the 1st drakengard also, a game I recommend created by Square. Im also playing Suikoden 4 which is an alright game so far, I dont know why people didn't like it that much.
there i just finished the game KeepSake... and if i had to put a note on it.. it would be 5/10, only because of the story and the graphic (even if the character animation sucked)
going back to play MapleStory (hehe lvl 50)
Warcraft 3 , its very cool game :).. and i always play minesweeper, im very good at M.S. i have a record of 3 seconds for the 9x9 map. :D
Just finished Suikoden I. Starting Suikoden II now...Quote:

After 70hrs I'm finally nearing the end to MS Saga(Just got Wing Zero:D), after I finish I can finally open up Suikoden V. Hopefully I can start on KH2 by the end of this month depending on how long/good Suikoden is, it's my first Suikoden so dunno what to expect.
ms saga black screens me after the first cinematic ( where the ms comes in, and the hero says they'll have to fight ), i was like, omg LOADING CRAZZEEEE, but it was just stuck for some reason >_> T_T

Aaargh help, my friends won't let me stop playing DotA!!! I guess it's lucky I'm totally addicted too.
Although, it's annoying how completely unbalanced it is, and how once someone jumps ahead a few levels it's impossible to catch up.
But anyway... *goes back to playing*
NOPE!Quote:

SD1 is in fact known in english as Final Fantasy Mystic Quest, released for the SNES.
It is not a very good game, however, and feels more like a Final Fantasy game than a Mana one.. hence the english title.
Anyone play Warcraft 3: FT on Bnet? I just started getting into dota, it's pretty damn addicting.
i do..not rly into dota... i'm on now.. Turkish_s in for a game.?
I'm at work so I don't think it would be a good idea. lol, but I'll play you after. Mine's Xollence.
k nice... what realm??
Dreamfall: The Longest Journey - I thought about picking this one up since its been getting really good reviews and the first one was acclaimed so highly. I'm really enjoying it so far. Its really easy to like the characters of the story, I found myself attached to them in well under a half hour. Its hard not to sympathsize with the main character Zoë, her attitude and demeanor are hard not to like.
also playing SiN Episodes: Emergence. Downloaded it off Steam, and I also found the original game interesting. I really like the way the game plays though. It gets HARD. The AI changes all of the dynamics on you constantly. You can read all about it, but actually seeing it happen makes the difference. The better you do, the harder the game gets. The more headshots you make, suddenly the enemies start dodging and getting helmets. The faster and more efficiently you take them down, the next group has better weapons, and there are more of them. When a section gets too hard, the game throttles it back a little. Its amazing. There is a constant level of challenge.
Also, I like the realism of the game. Most enemies take two or three shots before they go down (or one to the head). You can only take 4-10 shots, depending on what you get hit with. You've got grenades and toss them around, but the enemies have them too, and use them. Effectively too. I've gotten taken down about 5 times by grenade.
since I just fixed my good computer i have been trying to get back into practice for Day of Defeat. but work and real life have been taking up much of my time.
Lost Planet demo, pretty badass for only a demo
As soon as I get home this weekend, I'll be able to FINALLY get my hands on Guilty Gear Slash; been waiting for the game for a while, now. And, I'll also be trying Samurai Spirits(Showdown): Tenkaiichi Kakyuden.
MapleStory, Gunbound and DotA....i'll be stopping gunbound after my exams >.<
I am now officially addicted to WoW.
43 night elf hunter. Realm = Kul Tiras
Probably going to make an alternate soon, so if a bunch of you are on another server let me know.
DotA, DotA, DotA. I need DotA addicts anonymous, all u guys here who also play dota be careful, it will drag you in and suck out your soul!

my current games are dota in wc3 and wow
Dragon Quest: the journey of the cursed king
Good game so far. Toriyama is the best character designer ever.
Soul Calibur 3 now. God, I had forgotten how fucking frustrating this series gets. No way in hell am I going to get all the golden trophies. Impossible!
Also, what's up with having to go through story mode like 4 times per character to get all events?
Cheap replay value.
Other than that, awesome game, really enjoying the custom character creation. I have a bluehaired bish with red hair and a giant sword. Oh yeayyyyy
Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time.
N-Blox Tetris
Right now I'm playing a game called "A Blurred Line" made with RPG Maker 2000. For a game made with such a simple system, it's really awesome.
Im still stucked at wow trying to get exalted at Alterac Valley for that epic mage goodness with just 2k rep on revered. ~_~"
Akama(pvp) server = Karrasu, if you're there..give me a hello :D
Guitar Hero has, in the last two days, wrested ownership of my soul from SMT: DDS2 and DMC3-special edition.
It now has sole ownership. No deity, no demon, nothing but Guitar Hero bears any claim to it.
That is all.
INDEED! I love "A Blurred Line". RM2K should never be underestimated. I've played a countless amount of good stuff using that program. (though an equally countless amount of crap too of course)Quote:

I just wish I had the spriting know-how to make some custom sprites and the programming know-how to make my own battle system, then I'd make the best damn RPG ever made.
I'm currently playing Fable: The Lost Chapters, Dragon Quest VIII and Golden Sun 2. I love my RPGs me.
Hitman: Blood Money
Okay, I'm actually going to write something here as this is easily one of the best games I've ever played and it deserves all the attention it can get. Yes, seriously!
After only having done the first real hit ( the one in Chile ) I am already in love with this game. It is smooth, slick, stylish and utterly fabulous in every sense of the world. There was just so much content, so many options, so much fucking pure GODLINESS in that one level... that I dare not imagine what the rest of the game will look like.
Oh, and Jesper Kyd's soundtrack is just pure ecstasy for your ears. Rarely have I had the pleasure of hearing such a well-composed soundtrack.
It is easily the best game in the series so far, and one of the best stealth-based shooters ever to come into existence. Hell, Agent 47 has almost taken Snakes place as my favorite, if that tells you anything. It just oozes with style and being an assassin has never been this sexy.
Never, I say!
I spent an unhealthy amount of time in front of RM2K in my heyday, but I never got around to learn how to program my own battle system. I just sort of came to the conclusion that it wasn't worth the trouble. How many RM2K games can you mention which have an original battle system and actually was completed? Exactly. All that time just isn't worth it.Quote:

How do you do that? Does it require a lot of work? I'm currently working on a game (and have been for about 2 years), but I couldn't figure out how to mess with the battle system. I agree that spending too much time making changes to the game's engine probably isn't worth it, but if it's relatively simple, I might consider it.Quote:

Edit: @Complich8, finally someone who agrees that Guitar Hero is pure awesome. Everyone I've heard from says "it's useless, just learn to play the guitar for real." I just wish the game had more of my favorite music on it. Here's hoping for that in Guitar Hero 2.
Currently playing World Of Warcraft.. Addicted? Maybe slightly.. Nah, I'll admit it, totally addicted.. :)
60 Warlock, The Venture Co
Xan, basically, you have all these battle animations which you use to form the attacks the characters can perform. You can see that easily by opening the database. What you need to is to create your own animations. For that, you'll need a program which can handle those small files with their bmp format or whatever it is. I recommend IDraw, if it's still around. I used that anyway. Now all you need to do is open a character sheet and copy/paste the characters into the animation and now you can use your character sprites as part of the animation you are working on.
It's really a lot easier than it sounds.
God, that is simple. I feel retarded for not figuring it out myself.
I had IDraw once upon a time, but my computer crashed since then. Will have to see if I can find it. Thanks.
Red Alert 2
might and magic 5
tenchu stealth assin
legend of heros
final fantasy 9 (old school :D )
onimusha 4
just to name my top5 at the mo
Wow, Final Fantasy IX is old school now? Gods I feel old.
Anyway, what I'm playing...
Brain Age.
I just love screaming at my DS, you see, and I have no time for anything else.
Whaa Onimusha 4 is out??? Man I have really been locked away from the world at uni...
All this talk of the FF has made me want to restart playing FFX... I started it but left it because I found it sooo boring... FFIX was class though. I played FFVII for like 10 minutes but had to put it away because of the gross graphics.
Amazing how Soul Calibur 3 has me screaming like an idiot and throwing the controller into the wall, only to have me playing it religiously again an hour later...
Your gonna love the Wii arn't you...Quote:

Remember what they said about Smash Brothers being too complicated to play with the Wiimote?
Lies. They just didn't want the plyers killing each other or whacking the rest with the controllers.
On FFIX - I loved that game. Sure, the graphics were simplistic and the characters were super-deformed, but I just liked it. How could you not, wirh Vivi being there and being all angsty? Gotta love the black-mages.
And the plot was better than FFVIII's love story, I think.
Replaying Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, one of the best games ever!
replaying the pimp nasty of all SNES RPGs: ff6(ff3, whatever, you know the one I mean).
Not to take away anything from Chrono Trigger, but I've played both a few times (Trigger just about 10 or so times) but I've still not done everything there is to do in ff6, and it's been awhile since I played it
Well, I fell victim to World of Warcraft, so that game has been eating up a lot of my free time. I got a level 38 Troll hunter in 2 weeks (I've had my bro call me crazy because of that).
As for the side dish, I'm also playing Suikoden Tactics for the PS2. It's a pretty good alternative to FF Tactics.
Up until recently I've been playing Warcraft III TFT or Guild Wars, but for the past few weeks I've been playing NetHack, which old enough that Warcraft III RoC was released a few years after it was.
On FFIX: I didn't really take Vivi to be the star of the show... the other characters were good too. I liked the story alot too. I wouldn't say the characters were deformed or the graphics simplistic, I thought they were really nice. The movie scenes were awesome, and when I first saw them on my PSX it really blew me away. Made me realise why the N64 lost that round of the console wars.
Speaking of N64, Super Mario 64 was an awesome game... amazing seeing how it was the first title and all. That and Lylat Wars (Star Fox 64)... never understood why people knocked this game so much.... I months of fun playing in multiplayer mode, if not years.
Finished replaying Xenogears for ps, I'll probably start playing The Legend of Zelda : Mojaros mask or whatever it was called.
I never played any of those 2D FF games, I'll probably also try out FF6.
I never thought Vivi to be the star (but I complained a lot about that!), the story was needless to say much more focused on the hero, Zidane, and his lady, Garnet. In, fact, to quote an old friend's comments, most FMV were too focused on Garnet.
To quote a game-critic, more or less, "The story's good, but I wanted to see some FMVs that weren't focused on Garnet's butt."
But yeah, I loved that game. Very touching.
And don't get me started on Ocarina of Time... Gods, now that's the game that really got me into videogames. Recently I've been wanting to play it again - my European History professor was explaining how castle-towns closed at sunset and I immediately thought of Ocarina of Time's drawbridge closing. What a great, great, great game that was - now if only Twilight Princess could equal it, or even better, raise the bar...
I used to play Lineage II and Everquest, but since college started I just can't sit down and play online. Takes too much time... so as much as I want to try Warcraft, it'll have to wait for, eh, maybe four years.
Starcraft Broodwar
I love this game. Its soooo fun even though its old. Hit me up if you wana game.
Acc= "dyW-DriMs" east realm. You odnt have to place the caps, I just put them their to look nice :)
P.S. im a protoss/luna type of gamer : P
Have any of you guys played The Legend of Zelda : Majora's Mask? How would you compare it to Orcarina of Time?
personally enjoyed almost every second of Orcarina of time, Just played the first 20 minutes of Majora's Mask, Doesn't seem bad, I don't mind the graphics for it remind me of Orcarina of Time, and its looks so funny.
Anyway, Back to Majoras Mask.
I just downloaded Dark Cloud 2 and Suikoden V. I think i'll play DC2 first :p
Mmm, definitely Dark Cloud2; I vouch for the game that I spent 152+ hours playing.
Just finished Dragon Quest VIII; feels as though I've got a huge hole to fill... Though, I'm still in the process of filling the hole left by FFVI inflicted onto me over 7 years ago.
Can anyone tell me how Atelier Iris 2 stands up to its predecessor in title?
I really liked Majora's Mask, though it never seemed like a complete Zelda game to me on its own. I think of it as a Ocarina of Time 1.5. It just didn't impact me enough, even though me and a friend spent AGES getting every single mask and every heart peice. I also love replaying every boss battle in that game (Twinmold being my favorite). I thought the 3-day thing would be annoying, but it gives the game the depth and strategy I remember it for.Quote:

I didn't like it that much. It didn't have the classic Zelda feel. Try to get Helix Link. Thats the only fun part because you can pwn at the end.Quote:
