I don't know for the US, but in Europe, or at least France, it's possible to get state money for a Music TV channel.
You just have to meet some requirements on a minimum music time from specific locations. I don't know the actual figures, but it would be like 50% of European music with at least 30% French music.
Then, you get lower tax rates, access to state money, easier channel registration etc...
So if it works the same elsewhere, maybe they then decided to do the bare minimum to still get the advantages...
The US doesn't have cultural laws like France does, so the FCC really only limits advertising (cigarettes, what's shown during children's shows, etc.) and explicit content.
None of the cable channels show what their demographic was supposed to be anymore.
Animal Planet has reality shows staring humans (tangentially related to animals), TLC (The Learning Channel) has nothing to do with learning at all anymore, History shows little historical (or even factual) anymore, MTV plays little to no music, Science was created after Discovery stopped showing much science and now shows Firefly and other scifi series, SyFy rebranded itself from SciFi because it stopped playing Science Fiction and shifted more to fantasy, AMC (American Movie Classics) first stopped playing classic movies, and now they make their own new series, and I can go on and on.

The gameplay is an afterthought, used mainly to lead you through the painfully cliched storyline. Someone else said it when I lamented how easy games are now compared to early generations, but the game's developers seem more interested in the player getting through the whole story than actually being challenged by the gameplay. Failing a mission doesn't have any consequences in the game, you still move on to the next mission regardless. It just means you don't get the pointless achievement.
I'll say that the twist is kinda cool, if you can stand playing the game to almost the end, which is a montage of cut scenes tying up all loose ends and the writers telling you what the afterlife is like. What pretentious bullshit. Terrible terrible game.

Right, but you shouldn`t add extra weight to those that buy less. If you buy a shirt for 10 pesos and I decide to buy two, logically I should pay 20 pesos. Instead we`re charging 14 to whoever bought one, while whoever bought two ends up paying 8 per shirt, because we didn`t collectively achieved a discount we never qualified for in the first place (there`s only 20 of us, assuming EVERYONE would buy two is ridiculous.)

Uh...while the real threat is freezing to death (when lacking a fireplace/woodstove/kerosene heater), the biggest issue is having the water pipes in your house freeze and burst.
That's why extended power outages in the winter are so bad. A woodstove unfortunately isn't always enough to save the pipes in your residence, because they're usually in the basement or next to exterior walls. Once the pipe thaws, you're lucky if you don't lose a part of your home to severe water damage.
In the summer, an extended outage is an inconvenience. In the winter, it's a real danger.
Someone should invent a system to purge a house's water pipes for such a situation. I'll take 5% of profits for suggesting the idea.
Such systems have existed forever. Although regular residential properties might not have the lower and upper valves and suitable plumbing designed for it. Estates meant only to be used for a part of the year, usually the summer obviously, and left cold during winters may have been built so, especially in the past, unless they have automatic heating keeping either the whole building or just the pipes above 0C. The latter solution is increasingly popular (because it's so easy), but like Ryll said, if power disappears for days during a cold period, then the owner will become familiar with filling insurance claim forms.Quote:

I got caught out by paypal again because I was clicking without thinking. I keep multiple currencies in my paypal account because doing conversions outside of transactions cost less than doing them on the fly. Paypal however always thinks it's best to use up any surplus in my account before withdrawing from my bank regardless of currency, costing me 2x conversion fee plus 1x convert-on-the-fly fee. I have to change the payment method from balance to bank/credit card every single time, but sometimes it slips through.
And it pisses me off when it does.
Paypal used to have really good rates, but that changed a few years ago. I'll have to review how their rates compare to banks to see if using credit card works out better.

40 kg is 66% my weight.
Based on my DEXA scan of 18% body fat and mass being 65kg (last I measured), it gives me around 53.3kg of lean mass or so. That means if I want to reach 12% body fat my ideal weight has to be 61kg. I haven't ever been able to breach 63kg, and even then I'm pretty sure that was lack of shit/pee/water that caused the fluctuation.
@Animeniax: after you reach your target, you maintain it. The idea of a journey sounds good and has its merits, but at the same time not everybody wants to bulk or lose weight indefinitely.
And that's why people fail to keep off the weight. Having a goal is great, it drives you and keeps you going. Once you reach your goal, it doesn't seem to be enough (for most people) to have a goal of maintaining an ideal weight/fitness level. Maintaining is where people fail. So enjoy the process leading to your goal, cause it's mostly downhill after you reach that goal.Quote:

It was years ago, but because of where I live (close to one of the major distribution centers for Amazon), I would typically get any package either next day, or the day after, even though I would choose standard shipping. To add to my bitching, the product in question is the HD remaster of FFX/X-2, which was released on Tuesday. I placed my order over a month ago. Again, back in the day, Amazon would ship pre-order items a day or two before release, just so they are guaranteed to arrive on release day. But that doesn't happen anymore either. Instead, my item is transported to the carrier facility in the middle of the day of release day... makes it's way across the state line around 1am or so, to a facility in my fucking town... and has been sitting there since yesterday morning. How in the hell a Fedex truck couldn't make a delivery within two days is beyond me.
I have Prime, and I still get packages in three days from time to time. I'm pissed about it every time, but there's little recourse aside from bitching at Amazon and hoping they give you a credit (and sometimes they even will). It depends on how fucking lazy UPS and FedEx are, because once they pass it off to the USPS, they count it as "delivered".Quote:

Honestly, I'm pretty sure Prime isn't 2-day shipping at all, All Amazon shipping is 2 days. I bet they have a bulk agreement with UPS and FedEx, maybe even a flat rate due to the overwhelming volume they put into the system. Shipping packages is the most lucrative part of that whole system. That's also why UPS/FedEx generally don't do letters, they're not worth it.
Even when I was on Super Savings Shipping, my package would often arrive the same day it was "shipped." When you get Amazon Prime, you're paying for same-day or one-day processing and handling. It's pretty clever on their part to call it otherwise.
It's not so much that Amazon is losing money with the current rate, it's UPS/FedEx/USPS. It's mostly due to the increase in fuel, and dropping value of the dollar. Everything goes up, but unlike a grocery store or gas station, Amazon can't incrementally raise prices that they need to pass on to the customer without everyone instantly noticing. Amazon has probably been eating the cost for years, but can't afford to anymore.
Losing money on shipping is their justification for raising the price of Prime; whether it's them or the shipping companies, they're in it together, and the cost is passed on to us, the customers. I love Surepost since we have mailbox clusters with package lockers, so I rarely have to visit the post office to pick up a missed delivery. Is the fact that you're filling out a report about her something that she knows about (and is supposed to know about)? Tell her exactly that, that you'll have to write a report at the end of the session, that you don't want her to repeat but you also won't lie in the report. At her current performance the report won't be favourable and you want to work with her together to get it up to scratch (or something).
My bitch: dirty housemate/s leaving the kitchen looking like shit. Either not washing things up in a timely matter (days?) or just sucking at washing stuff up (food left on utensils). They also don't routinely lock the external doors. I've walked right into our house unnoticed multiple times without unlocking the doors.
