I'm quite happy with Rimuru going away from his previous gang to do some teaching and adventuring. It's refreshing to not have him died up in too much politics and just have him discover the world a bit.

This didn't actually manage to get any further than what's covered by the manga already, especially if the next ep is not anymore continuing the main story. I used to think this would overtake the manga, but no.
This felt like the end of the season, but there was a next episode.
Was that demon holding the crystal ball the same one he summoned to possess the golem(why the hell did they yadda yadda that btw?)?
There is...a lot going on with Chloe and her spirit that I don't understand? Is she Shizu's reincarnation? Rimuru's girlfriend from the future? Another true dragon?

I'm curious if the words they said right before the summon might have effected it. Her saying she loves him. Him wishing she'd said it in 10 years. So it summoned, like, 10 year future love interest.
Similar to how the things he thought as he was dying had a huge effect on how he reincarnated.

Kind of a meaningless episode, although it had some good moment. In the first place I don't really care about Shizu so much I'd want to see parts of her past. If this had any real use, it would be to make Noir more meaningful if he indeed appears again.
I assumed Black was the demon Rimuru summoned to possess that golem. Hence the "story for another time" bit. But I went back and looked and they have different designs.
Still, got some actual evil demons at least.
This was one of the best episodes in a long time.
And it also confirms our time travelling theories with the mask Infinity. (I'm gonna say that when Kuro struck the mask, Chloe came out and cut his arm in an instant).
Overall disappointing anime if it isn't continued. Story went nowhwere with a disjunct ending. Wouldn't recommend it at this point.
It's similar to Log Horizon: good anime, torpedoed by non-continuation.
I just read the books after. That's the entire point of LN anime adaptations anyway: advertising.

An 24.9 episode has been released, I assume it's some sort of recap of season 1, don't know if it has any new content. Next season begins next week as far as I can tell.
As expected, it doesn't have enough new content to make it worth anything much. It was mostly a recap and then some foreshadowing. Not really worth watching, unless you really want to. I watched a minute or two of it by jumping/skipping majorly.
The comment I had seen said that it was "mostly" recap, not sure if I'll watch it. I don't need a refresher. I'll just jump into the new season when it starts.Quote:

Forgive the triple post...
Episode 1 of the second season just started, not much to it yet... spend little bit in the early going giving us a quick summary on how we got here (even though we just got a full recap episode just last week). There was a small mention of an event in the last 3 episodes of the OVA, but nothing worth watching the OVA over... more like an acknowledgement to help with continuity with the special kids at the school.
Other than that, some of the minions began a fight with minions representing a Demon Lord, we'll see how that goes in the next episode, but nothing really engaging so far. But it's nice to return to this world, with the other 2 big isekai series this season, this one seems to get the short end of the stick, but entertaining enough for me. Hope we get to see some big battles in the future.
Season 1, as far as the Rimuru thread went, it ended with him leaving the school and had some people following, don't recall if they were introduced at any point, but they were wearing white with a red cross in their uniform, but sure of some religious order.
With that said, it seems like season 2 picks up about a month or so before he leaves school if I'm looking at things correctly. At some point those event should merge and either their investigating Rimuru for now, or are going to attack him, or maybe follow him to his village?
I was confused at first since I recalled Rimuru saying goodbye to his students, but it seems they went a bit ahead just to leave us in some sort of climax in season 1.
Yeah, if you ask me, I'd say it was a pretty calm first episode. The fight feels meaningless. A diplomatic envoy that immediately wants to fight with the host nation. But then again, they are monsters, so maybe they simply can't deal with anyone before having some personal fighting experience with them.
Just the usual tough guy act and then become best friends kind of thing I bet. I would've thought that they would agree to send equal amount of representatives, but seems like Rimuru sent 2 and the Demon Lord about... 3?Quote:

The other beast nation people are much more cool headed. The knives guy was ordered to fight Youm, and both were kind of reluctant until they started going at it and got engaged in their fight.

Overall, I'm fond of Tempest's demeanor: Let's try to be friends, and trade is best (we'll build the road for free). But if you're going to be an ass about things, repeatedly show disrespect, you're gonna get beat up. If you attack, you're just 100% going to die, because that's not cool. Their "diplomacy" is Youm's group spreading full on propaganda about how friendly and non-threatening they are.
My favorite part was when the human guy was able to keep up with the demon guy. Like, he must be ridiculous strong considering no human before got even close to fighting a demon overlord by himself. I always feared that humans would be totally worthless in this anime, but now we got proof they're not.
I was surprised myself, didn't recall any humans being that strong... maybe it's part of the training as they mentioned, but we'll see. Nice development to have for sure.Quote:

And absolutely no one was surprised by it being nothing but a test. At least Rimuru got a chance to display his might by absorbing the megaspell.
Clayman showing his vile visage was obviously the most important part of the episode.
Although for the orcs, beer was the most important thing. I can't blame them: It's hard work to pave a road.
Not much to this episode, pretty much pure narration to move the story along and keep setting the stage.
I don't think we ever knew that Tempest was kind of shit at Agriculture? I guess that makes sense, as Rimuru was an urbanite. It's also a clearing of a holy/haunted forest. Treyni and the bee queens probably wouldn't be too happy with a mass clearing of land.
Beast kingdom getting booze for their fruit seems like a much better deal for them compared to Tempest.
If it's cleared for gardens, fields (for crops, not cows), orchards, and such, bees would love it. Hard to say about Treyni, but maybe she doesn't mind cultivated land still full of life, even if it's not wild life. You'd think they would at least leave patches of old forest among the fields. I don't know how it was abroad but at least over here in Finland, that was quite common. Especially so in the old times when clearing forests for fields was extremely labour intensive, so folks tended to leave the roughest terrain alone if they could afford it.Quote:

I'm kinda surprised that there hasn't been any kind of just straight up anti-monster racists in this series yet. I wonder if this new kingdom is gonna be that.
But more than anti-monster, we need to see anti-demihuman. Don't recall if we've seen that. I know there were elves in the dwarf kingdom, don't recall if they were there as refugees or if they had a normal relationship. I think the ones introduced seemed to be in some sort of red light district... but that was one of the early episodes in the first season, so can't recall well. Responsibility seems to strangely flow only in a single direction in the top echelons of the Tempest kingdom: Rimuru went to a bar for a night, and has to grovel before Shuna and Shion, begging for mercy. Yet when Shion shamelessly got so drunk she passed out in front of an allied nation's king, nothing at all resulted from that.

Just watched the episode, and didn't recall there were actual monster living there. Were they from Tempest first or were they there all along?
Our human champion got quite handled there in the end. Have we been introduced to good magic users so far? Though he seemed to imply that he was beaten with simple spells. Can only recall powered-up monsters, but not actual legit spellcasters.
We're 3 episodes in, hope there isn't too much setup left to take care of and we can get the ball rolling.

Just watched the first three of this season (took me long enough)...
Maaaaan, I knew slime had no tension, but these three episodes really drove that home, in a bad way. It's like the illusion of danger or actual conflict has sustained the non-talking scenes ever since the Orc lord battle in season 1. It's not simply that there is more or less peaceful resolution that bothers me, it's the repetition at this point; like a punchline for a non-joke.
I don't remember the Dwarf king being so chatty, but I don't dislike it.
Aside from Gobta's epic nose/face bleed, the entire hostess bar scene felt like a bit of a waste of time. I felt like saying "We're setting up diplomatic relations, not cavorting with ladies!" The world is changing due to this new nation, and its curators aren't... taking it seriously enough, I guess? How very Japanese, now that I think about it...
Magic and its user's really weren't on my radar, but I look forward to this little sleeper cell being no doubt converted by Tempest's world class hospitality or some such onto the hero's side.
Civilization feeling is spot on, but with the 'cheat' of contemporary knowledge in a medieval setting. I like how modern amenities like hot water faucets are achieved by magic instead of 'practical effects' like water boilers. I guess rune magic really is cheap and convenient, but would Senku approve?
Animation took a small hit from what I remember of the first season, but so far, still looks fairly good.
I liked the titty bar scene because it shows that Rimuru still tries to find time to enjoy himself. It's not just him building a country out of pure altruism.

- Tempest is getting built in the Jura Forest, which was previously off-limits because of the Storm Dragon that recently disappeared (into Rimuru's belly).
- Dwargon flat-out warned Rimuru that becoming a powerful trade nation may upset Falmuth, the current trade leader, especially for food, and who have a douchebag for a king.
- Dwargon would happily prefer getting food and booze from Yurazania through Tempest than get it from Falmuth where they currently do.
- Youm is from Falmuth.
The strings are all there, just what exactly is going to make them all snap?
My fear is that the strings will sway and stretch, but never snap. There will be almost war or some other cataclysmic event, but it will be averted by the little slime that could, methinks.
I'd love to be wrong.
Well, we've already seen some big battles in the past... took some while to get going, but we got them. And the players that manipulated those events behind the scenes are still in the game (like Clayman). We'll see, but yeah, it's taking some to lay everything out. Plus we have that scene from last season when Rimuru left the school (which I think is a scene in the future still) of some humans (?) following him. Given that it was shown as the cliffhanger in the last season suggests that it's something to look forward to.Quote:

The warm up phase of this new season feels quite long, but I guess that's what it takes it establish the situation and new characters.
If the anti-monster religion is a state religion, they would automatically be anti-monster. Other than that, if the less sentient/intelligent monsters, plus even some intelligent ones, are typically dangerous to humans, most nations wouldn't love monsters in general. If an organised, powerful nation of monsters popped up right beyond their borders, it would also generate a lot of anxiety. In addition to all that, and more importantly, the finances of the nation (that is, the king and the nobles) started to suffer. That would turn most nations anti-monster, especially if they didn't have the wits or possibility to benefit from the new market.Quote:

It's a forest of monsters. A very large one the size of a country. I'd assume it has all kinds of small tribes here and there. Just like the goblins, originally, were the single village Rimuru happened to encounter. They were presented about as comically evil as the Falmuth leaders though, the only difference being that they're implied to be in some form of servitude, possibly as part of the summoning ritual like Shizu was. The logic that "Because who would believe a bunch of monsters?" is really shitty though. Rimuru already knows the leaders of other nations, and depending on your POV, most demon lords are monsters.
Is posting the world map for this series considered a spoiler? I wanted to talk about Tempest and it's position to other nations, but there's nations on the map that haven't been mentioned yet.

I think the kids don't have it because they were "useless," doomed to die, and sent to Ingrassia. They haven't gone into any real detail about the "successful" summonings in the west until now.
There's also a difference between Summoned (the kids, via incomplete, rushed, and "industrial level" rituals) and Otherworlders (e.g. Rimuru). Shizu was somewhere in-between I think, because the demon lord Leon Cromwell summoned her more properly.
Anyone's guess where these three fall.

The logic that "Because who would believe a bunch of monsters?" is really shitty though. Rimuru already knows the leaders of other nations, and depending on your POV, most demon lords are monsters.
Anyways, glad to see that there's potential action coming our way. I like the worldbuilding, but I think they go too slow about it. It's the same structure in the LNs, we get a shit ton of world building, no action, etc. and then at the end we are sent some scraps for the action. I mean, the action is great, but it lacks balance. Much like the first season of the series... takes a while to get going.
Of course, we in general get more well rounded characters, though I think the cast is very large as it is and growing, which doesn't help balance things out.
There are some maps that contain details that are spoilerish, but I think a general map of countries and what not should be OK. I have one that seems OK to post in my opinion, can remove it if someone objects (though by then it may be too late lol).Quote:

It's kind of irrelevant what form or ratio of success the incident would have. They just need to have any kind of violent event to rally their own people and allies. Such things have happened in RL, for example in the beginning of the WW2. It's to gain a casus belli for official records and to justify the war to the citizens.Quote:
