OMG! Tool are going on tour with Mastodon, and they're not coming to sweden :(:(:(
It was nice to go to Wacken as in: "The Greatest Metal Fest In The World"Quote:

Listening a lot to Vanishing Point lately. Power/prog metal, very catchy stuff. I recommend all three of their albums, although Tangled in Dream is probably the best.
As a sidenote, I'm finally going to play live for the first time with my band... at november 3rd! Hell yeah! (this is a hint for you el_boss)
I'm with you.. though a lot of the participating bands have spoken on how badly they've been treated on that festival (The Project hate most memorable), as well as the fans.Quote:

I just discovered Opeth. Damn I had gotten a totally unfair impression of them before. They totally kick ass. I'm listening to Ghost Reveries as we speak (or should it be "I write"?).
Also I would like to bring some attention to the dutch band Textures. Very cool stuff.
If you like Opeth, Tool and Porcupine Tree, I highly suggest you get into King Crimson. They're a band best known for inspiring quite a few of the better modern rock bands (Maynard cites them as a main source of inspiration), and they've found a way to stay just out of the spotlight while enjoying a solid following.
If you want something with a harder sound (most Tool-like) try their last album, "The Power to Believe". Very interesting chord and pattern stuff there, too. Their earlier album, "Thrak", has a Porcupine Tree feel to it... or rather, the other way around. The 80's stuff is probably their most complex, but the 80's vibe is pretty strong and that might put you off. The 70's albums are also strongly recommended, probably the best of them being "Red", "Starless and Bible Black" or "In The Court of the Crimson King".
Thanks man. I have added King Crimson to my "will listen to" list.
Music Dominating My Playlist
Opeth - Ghost Reveries, Damnation (got into these based on recommendations from you lot)
Entwine - Fatal Design (Love this Album)
Nocturnal Rites - Grand Illusion, Lost In Time
OMG! Have you guys heard of a band called Soilwork? I don't know if its mentioned but jeeze they are a kick ass swedish band man.
Songs- Overload, rejection role, song of the damned, why not just download the whole album?
Edit: Peter Wichers left the band (2005), he was one of the most kick ass guitarist of that band it sucks but hey band is still great
I've heard them-- they're only maybe a step above what I hear on the radio. But if you like them, you'd probably like a southern prog-metal band called Atheist.
Atheist are cool.
I've been listening to more of that folk metally stuff.. Dark Moor, Carved in Stone
The metal thread deserves more action than this..
I've found a really cool band. Red Sparowes. They have no vocals but the songs are very dynamic anyway. Check out the album At The Soundless Dawn.
Pain of Salvation's album Remedy Lane is good. It reminds me of Opeth and a little Porcupine Tree.
EDIT: Red Sparowes are really really really fucking good.
Some new finds
Katatonia - Viva Emptiness - Awesome vocals, they've got a Opeth feel to them.
Trivium - Ascendancy - Good shit, also good vocals
Unearth - The Oncoming Storm - Good screaming, good music
Fear Factory - Archetype - I really like the drums and the vocals
Soilwork is pretty kickass, at least what I've heard of them. I really like Trivium also.
Lately I've been listening to Kamelot, good stuff.
Archetype is far from Fear Factory's best work. Check out Obsolete or Soul of a New Machine. But especially Obsolete.
Make sure you've got a good subwoofer. 300 watts at least.
Kamelot - Karma was the first metal album I bought. I never looked back. Awesome stuff.Quote:

Lacuna Coil - Comalies - I really like 'em. I haven't been a fan of female vocals in the past but LC pull it of excellently and it doesn't sound like some opera shit like it usually does when women+metal.
