Don't forget Trans Graham now! That made me laugh out loud when I read it.
Awesome action scenes with a terrible junk ending. I'm gonna pretend this never existed. :(
Except Mina. I want her.
@Buff - The pattern for any gundam series is similar to what you described. The more the gundams get advanced, the more similar they become and the less tactical the battles end up.
Gundam shows generally go downhill in terms of quality.
You mean because it never had tactics in the first place?
Well, yeah.
I'm not saying it's bad, but it certainly isn't your usual gundam fare, much like 8th MS team.
So I watched the movie this morning. I liked it. It did indeed wrap up all the loose ends nicely, however, the issue of Setsuna's love interests could have probably been handled in a much less forced manner(but that would have had to have started in season 2, which it barely touched on at all).
Edit: I just noticed that all the Gundams are twin drives. Intresting.
I only now watched the movie. I didn't even mind the joke subs in the beginning because it became more than obvious very quickly it wasn't the real deal. I mean, even if you forget the subs completely, the scenes and action was like from a parody film. I can't believe how Masa got so trolled...
The first half was a lot better than the second, for reasons Bill already listed. As long as it seemed there might have been something behind the attacks it piqued interest but as soon as it was made evident it's nothing but a faceless hivemind, it fell flat. Especially practically knowing how it would necessarily need to end this belonging to the 00 greater story.
Not a movie to watch for a second time but I didn't get bored as such thanks to the good animation and the few decent characters. Still, I would have liked to see Al and Soma with a child... But at least we got another death escaping scene by Patrick 'Indestructible' Colasour. That guy is a hilarious idiot. Almost made up for Ali's absence.
Oh god I just watched this movie it was so bad.
Dammit why did you have to remind me of my disappointment.
...Did the producers seriously just realize, "shit we have 3 minutes to wrap up this movie. Cut the battle scene, insert giant flower. Yeah that makes enough sense. Yeah we'll go with that."
I am in a state of absolute confusion.
Please, this movie sucked donkey balls.
I said it wasn't enjoyable.
However, I did give it credit for what it did well - tying off 00.
I don't think I left much unsaid in one of my previous posts.
Are you serious? What was the giant flower? How did they get the big metal things to stop? wut?
This movie wasn't that bad. It just feels terrible for you guys because y'all didn't spend an hour after a movie analyzing the finer details of the story.
The big metal things stopped after Setsuna warped to their homeworld and integrated with them - showing them and conversing with them about the human world. The aliens seemed to be able to assimilate, but never communicate. It seems that Setsuna was able to maintain his sense of self when he integrated with them.
As for the flower, that can take on a few meanings:
-Life: The flower was a motif in the earlier parts of when Setsuna was unconscious and wandering around the earth, watching everyone fighting and putting forth effort in order to live. It was also a replica of the space-flower, which in turn was symbolism for Felt, who brought Setsuna "back to life".
-Change: Change in order to live was the last thought Setsuna had before he woke from his slumber. Lockon asked Setsuna to change in place of him (who could not drop his previous hatred and understand/encompass all those around him). Setsuna himself has indeed changed, and back in Gundam 00 S2 Episode 22, he probably wouldn't have accepted that flower from Felt (being the self-centric, stubbon brat he was at the beginning of the series), nor attempted to understand and consider her feelings. FYI the title of Gundam 00 S2 Episode 23 is "Flower of Life".
One can also take it as that the ELS themselves were capable of change, and changed their form to something that humans could understand.
The above meanings can be derived from the series/movie alone. However, I do believe the true meaning can only be felt after reading the movie prologue chapter that bridges the gap between S2 and the movie.

00 was also split well into 3 parts - S1, S2, Movie
World politics: Unite the 3 powers of the world with each other -> Unite conservative humanity with Innovadors -> Unite humanity with extra-terrestrial life.
Technology: Develop the quantum particles to produce Innovators -> develop the 00 engine to allow for quantisation/thought transmission -> Develop a warp engine to use all of the above for the "dialogue to come".
As a movie, it had its shortcomings. I really didn't care for half the shit that happened (aka anything outside of beams and missiles and Soma).
As a finishing piece to the whole series? I have to applaud it. It puts an entirely different (and revealing) spin on Aeolia Schoenberg's plans and the purpose of Celestial Being.
It's the ELS' way of saying:
I really don't get why some people can't get the purpose of the giant space flower. Sure, it looks stupid but it made sense.Quote:
-"Oh, assimilating things is bad? Let's tell them we're sorry."
-"But we can't communicate with them!"
-"Then let's tell that guy who can we communicate with we're sorry."
-"Umm... he just left."
-"Then what are we supposed to do?!"
-"Hey, when we read that guy's mind, there's this soft radial yellow thing-y that keeps popping out. It seems that, to him this, this is the symbol for peace."
-"Let's use that shape!"
*ELS Mothership transforms to a giant space flower*
-"This looks gay... Oh wait it's working!"
And they lived happily ever after... The End.
