Thanks for the site downloading a couple of those brushes as i speak, but i wanna know how you do the effect on uzmaki naruto sigs. http://www.gotwoot.net/forum/html/em...mf_dribble.gif his sig is just too good. Anyways i have been playin around with photoshop and found out how to do a refelction effect looks kinda kool. I have used animeac's sig as an example. (Hope he wont get mad at me, neva asked for permisson)

SirCharles, thanks alot! Practice is helping, I feel alot more confident now after churning out a half dozen for other people than I did when I started this thread, and that wasn't even two weeks ago.

Better, animeniac, I think the blend is much better. Though I didn't necessarily mean the choice of image itself was bad, just the blending. Cutting out that profile from the blue/yellow background would have been just as good, and the difference in view (i.e. profile and head on vs. two head on) might have been nice. Good work improving it though.
Joshdaaznboy, you posted images already didn't you? I can go ahead and make you one with those.
AlbinoFury and I have a different style, I think. His is cleaner, more graphical (if you know what I mean) with nice interface-style vector art on it. I tend to use alot more blending and texturing with lots of layers on different blend modes and customized brushes/fonts. The blue sky/Neji sig he uses for himself is I think my absolute fave of all the ones I've seen.
SirCharles, do you have some sort of script running that changes out your sig on each page view? That'd actually be pretty cool to have, that way people like josh could have more than one sig and change them out at random.

Yep, that's what I meant! Much more visually interesting.
Now I think what you need to work on for future sigs is to grab some new fonts from online. There are lots of freebie font sites out there (try 1001freefonts.com) and using something other than the defaults can really jazz up an image.
i made a new sig for myself, thought id try kimimaro for awhile give neji a rest for a bit.
and yeh i agree lasaire and I have completely different styles which i dig, I tend to have a dislike for chaos in my work, its gotta flow or im unhappy with it. thats the cool thing about sigs, different people can get greatly different overall feels from their work. So this one was a bit hard for me i had to mix a degree of chaos in yet maintain a flow, hope i achieved what i was after.

Hey whats up? As you can tell I'm pretty new to this whole message board and I was wondering if i can get a sig made. It doesn't have to be exacly what i want cuz i have no idea really what it should look like all the way done, but i might have some cool suggestions... I'd like a Kiba one with him on one side and Akamaru on the other. It would be cool if you could get a clean pic from the manga of the two headed dog that they do and stick it in the middle. Also if you can work in "Gijyuu Ninpou, Shikyaku No Jutsu" in there it would be cool. thanks to anyone who wants to take it.

One thing I like about Photoshop is that it's so flexible that three people who know the program fairly well and are comfortable with all the tools can take the same 4 source images and come up with a sig that looks completely different according to each person's individual style. Yeah, that's a little strange, I'd definately change that unless bizarre humour is what you are going for ;-) Other than that, your composition is very nice! Good clean cutouts and a variation between all kinds of shots, you're really advancing!
Now, what you need to do is perhaps add a stroke or outer glow to the blue text in the top left to make it a bit more separate from the background, and start adding some careful texturing and opacity changes for more interest!
But really, this sig is a huge improvement from your first ones! Nice progress!
Zero, the sig I made for animeniac doesn't have any brush effects on it, but four layers with images:
1) Very faint layer with kyuubi's eyes. The opacity is turned down very low and it's on top of all the other layers.
2) Black and white fox-naruto from the fight with Haku. The layer mode is set to screen and the opacity is low.
3) Red fox naruto. This is actually two layers that are adjusted to be red and orange monochrome, with the top layer on color dodge and the opacity low.
4) Layer with Naruto's determined face. This is just a simple cutout from a screencap. Nothing special.
VagabondLBD, I'm working on your sig right now, sorry I didn't get to it last night but I was out all day and got back home very late.
R3n, that Orochimaru sig's really nice, and it lends itself well to the addition of text and other customizations for general use. Nice job.
Zero786, the textured background I use in my personal sig is done with an assortment of downloadable brushes for Photoshop. Try VBrush as a jumping off point for downloading. Thanks for the gifs offer, but I have imageready, I can do them myself.
Animeniac, still showing improvement, good! The Shikamaru one is very nice, though that background image looks oddly distorted. I can't stress enough though, avoid that beveled edge! Resist the temptation!

Ok, since you asked for a critique, I'm going to get nitpicky! :wink:
Good choice of nice clean images, I esp. like the one on the right, but the edges of his hair are a touch jaggy, take your blur tool and gently go around the edges and that should fix it. You went a little too close with your lasso tool around the edge of Kiba and Akamaru on the left and cut out a bit of his outlines, more practice with selection tools will make you more comfotable with them. Don't be afraid to zoom in really obscenely close! I think when I was doing Vagabond's I was at 1600 at one point.
That gray background is just a touch...mmm...I don't want to say cheap, because I definately don't want to come across as insulting at ALL, but it is a bit bland. Try to avoid filter effects in general, they tend to be recognizable and non-unique. Give a bit of texturing, maybe have fun with some customizable brushes (says the Brush-Addict herself) and don't be afraid to download fonts, but watch out for the 3 font rule: Using more than three different fonts will make your piece too busy. Adding glow/gradient/stroke effects can sometimes count as a different font, so be careful and subtle with them.
Above all, play play play! In every one of my sigs there's at least two layers that I stuck in to experiment with images/composition/effects/brushes that I ended up turning off in the final version I posted. Just fudging around with filters on top of images, brushes on top of layers, etc. can sometimes give you cool effects that you would never figure out how to do if you specifically said, "Hey, I want to do this...." Plus, that's half the fun!
Great job, this thread is beginning to turn into what I hoped it would: an open forum with an equal number of sig makers and requesters!
Edit: Kiba, you need to have the image hosted somewhere, or have someone host it for you (littlecooldude will if you ask) and then put a link to the image in your signature.
Well, to get it in there, you have to go to your profile and choose to edit your signature. The host i'm using is pretty reliable, so you can just copy the link!
If you want to wait, however, I might revamp it a little using lasaire's critique. I'll work on it tomorrow. Glad you like it!

Hey I propose a contest similar to the one in which Albino Fury got his title. Making a banner, sig or something like that for the GW website. (Mods gimme your opinion about this). The final showdown between the Sig Master and the Queen of Sigs, or any other contender who wants to defeat the ultimate duo of Sig creators.
What do you guys think about this?

I think it's a good idea, though I'm a bit leery of contests since people can get easily offended and sometimes hurt in the process. :-( That's not cool. Plus, in terms of my time on the GW boards, I'm just a genin in comparison to AlbinoFury, KakashiSensei and the other sig sennin-sama-tachi. I make sigs because they're fun, good practice, and I can crank most of them out in under an hour.
What I think is perhaps a more fun idea, that would allow for more creative input without the risk of hurting feelings, is to have a Sig Challenge. What I propose we do is this:
Somebody picks out between 4 and 6 or 7 high quality images of a character that lend themselves well to sig making. Then whoever is interested in the challenge has a set length of time to make a sig from those images, and those images only. The only customization would be through actual photoshop techniques (including use of brushes and fonts). I think it'd be fun to see how many different sigs we could get out of the same set of images.

On another note, Josh, perhaps what we should do is host a poll first on what series and character should be the subject of the challenge. It would be better for someone with some graphics experience to choose the actual images as they will have a better idea of what to look for in terms of good images to work with.
aight so Ive been pondering this contest thing, and I think ive come up with a format that kinda would be entertaining and not too agressive.
My idea is to kinda do it in a 3 round tournament fashion, the first round having everyone that wants in do a themed sig of a certain character(probably from naruto-fits this sites mo best) then after a week say we vote for the top 4 sigs.
Then those top 4 sig makers make a new sig on a new subject(another char, series etc.) then we take the top 2.
Then we have the championship with a really hard subject or obscure character. Then the victor is proclaimed etc etc etc. what do ya think?
Oh and i think the everyone using the same base pic for the sig for the first round is a good idea, then after that lets open it up to the creators so they can search and open up their creativity.
Anybody else got any ideas as to how to do this thing? and oh yeh lasaire dont worry bout a flame war this fanart forum is one of the most creative and laid back environments on the net ive seen.
That sounds good to me! Having something in several stages allows the real masters to come out, and more people to have fun with the contest.

Another idea for the whole deciding on characters thing if you wanna make it all Naruto-fied is that you can pick someone that is a Genin in the first round, then a Chunnin in the second, and a Jounin in the third. and go to edit your signature in your profile screen. Once there, click on the "img" button, put in that link, and add comments if you want. What you put in will be your sig!

Ooh, Kagari, much better! The red really is a big improvement over the gray. It ties in with the red on Kiba's cheek-marks and the text and gives it a more unified feel. Yay!

Hmm...sasuke sigs are popular, and I've got lots of images lying around, so instead of searching for some, how about giving me more concrete ideas on color scheme and general 'feel'. For ex, does he want Sasuke with the Sharingan on, with the curse seal, what?

i think the final should have some harder guideline but as far as what you can use and source material i wholely agree it should be left wide open.

Karma, pick out four or five high quality, nice clean images that you want made into a sig and post specific links here or the images themselves.
Right now, I've got Zero786 up first, then Karma. It'll be a couple of days til I get to you, though I'm swamped with school.

I'm not sure about the quote in the middle, and teh bright colors of the pixel animation tend to make it pop out too much, you may want to up the opacity of the right hand image to make it still a touch blue to tie in to the bg, but brihter to link the animated. Also, go back in and smooth the edges of that right-hand cutout with the eraser, or blur, so that they aren't all jaggy.

Much better, but now that the text is removed, you can see that the far rear image of shikamaru, the screencap you chose for that cuts off his shoulder sharply. I try to choose screenshots that do not do this, or crop or otherwise arrange the picture so you can't tell. Remember, seamlessness is key!
Edit: I didn't necessarily mean take out the text entirely, just the quote seems a bit off. Shikamaru's far from a coward! Maybe "Number One Slacker" would fit him much better.
