Well IIRC, Shino stated he was a Chuunin to Kankuro during there fight during the sand invasion right? Was this in the anime? I cant recall and I'm to lazy to go back and check...
I guess if its opted out of the anime, it means Shino was just stating that he should be a chuunin in the manga but they took it out cause it confused the snot out of people.

This has already been answered...it's a mistranslation; if you search I'm pretty sure I actually posted the original Japanese somewhere around here. Shino says nothing about being a Chuunin from Konoha when he meets Kankuro.
