Fifty bucks says the Ravel Tail guy put the little devil on Gray as a tracking device. It shouldn't be teleporting with Gray whenever he restarts though, so perhaps it remembers his scent after their first encounter and just keeps tracking.
Sucks to see Gray lose like that, but it seems he'll get his revenge so that's cool.

I doubt anybody was surprised by Fairy Tail's rough start. Nothing less than the uber traditional underdog setting in this story.
Still, it was a catastrophe in the making to have Gray and Juvia in the same battle.
