Japanese/Korean/Chinese Films
Lets face it, American films have hit rock bottom, in recent years I have been watching alot of Japanese(which are refreshing to say the least) films but I find it hard to locate the best ones. Does anyone know of any sites that review these films or have any suggestions other than the obvious popular ones? For example Battle Royale, Casshern or Versus.
I'm pretty much looking for any genre really

Two that I really enjoyed are Shaolin of Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle... they are both very fun films, full of great effects

watched "Old Boy" a month or so ago and this was a great movie can't beleive no one has recomended it. Also I am having a hard time enjoying any Japanese movies, I find them slow or boring or just plain uninteresting. Mostly like chineses movies and liked one of two korean films I have watched, but both looked very nice cinematic wise. Valcano high was the other korean movie, its purely action and the storyline sucks but it was ok to watch once.

Action movie lovers can always start with the older Jackie Chan or Jet Li shows, which were much better as they were still in their prime then. Fans of Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle MUST see his previous work, which although lacks in the special effects department but makes it up with more hillarious stuff.

I'd second the Akira Kurosawa rec (Seven Samurai and Yojimbo are awesome) as well as Jackie Chan's movies (Drunken Master and Snake in Eagle's Shadow are very cool, I love how they can do these crazy scenes with physical skill alone and little to no special effects). Some other recs:
A Chinese Ghost Story (I liked this one a lot)
Iron Monkey
Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon and Fists of Fury (classics, although watch out for the random stripper scene in Fists of Fury, I was watching it with my family and damn was that awkward)
Raise the Red Lantern (drama)
Farewell my Concubine (really good drama)
The Emperor and the Assassin
That's all I can think of for now.
Edit: In one of my classes I saw a clip of this odd Japanese film where a neglected wife would elaborately tie herself up with rope in order to get her husband's attention. Anyone know the name of this? I don't think there are too many films with this plot.
