I'm listening to a song about breakups and severing contact because I'm a pansy and still get emotional over my recent ex:

Told myself that you were right for me
But felt so lonely in your company"

It probably doesn't help that the guy in the video looks just like you, Xan. Though so does the guy who played Loki in the Thor movie, minus the hair.

Ugh...listen to something that empowers you when you break up with someone. Try this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8DYukQCaUI. The word "Bitch" gets thrown around liberally:

"It's such a pitty that you're...such a bitch."

AILI feat. Warren G - This L.U.V.

I stumbled onto this while sitting on IRC one day and I saw this release scroll across the screen. I was like "wtf @ Warren G on a J-POP song." I do like how they fit the original "This D.J." sound into the track, though.

Going back to 2003. A dope trip hop track by one of my all-time fav's. Too bad he ain't made anything since 2006. Flight 602 missed that 90's hip hop sound, I'd love for him to bring that back. I remember I used to bob heads with my cousin to Aim's soundtrack on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwKZMwKfOVU).

Sweet memories.

Edit: In case you're wondering where the soundtrack sample is from, Marc Moulin - Humpty Dumpty (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9RaeUN20sDE). Awesome jazz.

Skrillex, eh? I liked the track he did for the Mortal Kombat (2011) soundtrack, which was Reptile's theme. They used it in the TV commercial as well.

Offtopic:

I can't just post a song/video because i thought it was great, I have to describe it? Even though it takes literally one click to hear it for yourselves and make your own opinion? Fine, whatever.

Btw, do people actually use this thread as some "post-count-upper" type shit? If so, just disable the postcounting for this thread like the ones in the flame pit.

I think someone posted earlier that they didn't want people to just post some random song. They want discussion about why you like the song or what it means to you. I see both sides.

Yes, that is my requirement for this thread.

Also, I saw Skrillex a couple of weeks ago at ACL. Really great show. Bunch of white teenagers lazily getting krunk as shit.

I just now managed to listen to a handful of the songs on the new opeth album...there are a number of songs that I liked immediately, here's a couple of them:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMj4CkCIHfM&feature=related

Honestly, I'm still not entirely sure how I'm going to feel about this album as a whole, but I know that it's going to rank lower than just about any other Opeth album I've listened to before. Still beats anything In Flames did in the last 10 years.

Opeth separating themselves from their death metal roots...I think I need a hug :(

I was mostly listening to Uplift Spice today as I've been to their very first concert oustide Japan... and that was in Paris.

Story:
Uplift Spice is a small j-rock band, they've been around since 2005. They are not yet signed to a major label, but it seems they do have enough fame that they can keep doing their stuff.
In france, we have IPTV called Nolife, aimed at geek. They are a music channel, promoting japanese music. But they also have to broadcast french and european stuff (mandatory). They also do other stuff (retro gaming, gaming and much more)
Said IPTV has a chart called J-Top where people can vote for clips they like.
Uplift spice enters said chart in june 2009 with Kanojo. Slow start and then get to first position.
Hanabi no Iro, same story.
And then every other tune gets first position the first week they are available to vote!

Nolife with partners decide to help the band come to France and voilà. First time they go abroad and it's for us in France starting with Paris (then Orleans, Limoges, Toulouse, Marseille and they'll finish in Bruxelles-Belgium)

The concert was full of energy, a bit loud to my fragile ears even full at the back of the small but packed room. (105 dB average, 115 peaks... and it was considered not too loud by some)
It was short and intense. I'm still a little high from the experience 24hours ago.
To tell you the truth, at 36 it's the very first time I chose to go to a live on my own accord.
Last time I've been to a concert was in 1995 to an Elton John live, where I was accompanying the girlfriend I had then.
I had a blast, won't do it too much for many reasons, but it was worth it.

crappy video from the live (hopping I'll get more and better) doesn't really do justice, gives only about 10% of what it was in terms of energy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEy6Es5MaeA

To get an idea, just imagine that nicely paced tune with a room packed with energized people:

I've been listening to Five.Bolt.Main again for awhile now. For those that know Flaw, it's Chris Volz's follow-up band (featuring a few other ex-Flaw members). My taste in music is usually much heavier, but both Flaw and FBM originated from my hometown, so I have a lot of respect for their music. While I was "growing up" (read: Junior High through High School), my best friend's sister knew the (then current) members of Flaw, and acquired their early EPs for us. I've been to several shows featuring either (including one of the "final" Flaw shows, which was quite emotional for Chris). It's one thing to like/support a band that you may or may not ever see in concert, but to personally connect with a band who's music you enjoy is one of the greatest things ever. Very few bands have made it as far as Flaw/FBM from the 502 area.

One of the more popular FBM songs (from their only studio release) is "Pathetic".

I recently acquired the debut album from The Unguided. My face melted, and teeth were kicked in.

For anyone that listens to/is familiar with Sonic Syndicate, The Unguided is basically "Sonic Syndicate 2.0". After Richard and Roland left Sonic Syndicate, they formed The Unguided. A few months later, they released demos, with help from the guitarist and drummer of Sonic Syndicate. In November of 2011, their debut album was released. The album, titled Hell Frost, is a tribute to Sonic Syndicate's debut album, Eden Fire. The last track is a reference to it as well. In comparison to Sonic Syndicate: The only thing that's changed is the name. Their music is still just a brutal and fast-paced as before.

Sonic Syndicate has been a favourite band of mine ever since I stumbled across their music while watching a WoW PvP video, featuring the warlock Drakedog. It was depressing when Roland left, and the music changed directions (see: We Rule the Night), so I was ecstatic when I learned of The Unguided. The only thing missing from the equation is Karin Axelsson.

No music videos or studio tracks have been uploaded to Youtube yet, but here is a 15 minute preview of the debut album:

Metalcore meets melodic death, good shit xD. I'm particularly fond of "Betrayer of the Code" right now. Not that the other songs aren't as good or even better, but this song is just commanding my attention right now, on loop. I'll eventually give the rest of the album a more thorough listen.

I'm doing the same thing with Nightwish's recent release, Imaginaerum. There's this song called "Rest Calm" that I can't stop listening to on loop despite the rest of the album being pretty sweet (if you're into Nightwish and symphonic metal).

There were videos of it on youtube, but no longer. I'll post the song when if I can find a stable source for it

This song is quite good xD. I love this brand of folk music. I usually hear it woven into metal music, but this works xD. These guys should help add some more variety to my playlists.

Here's a song that the metalheads among you might like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHPLpb_Mcxg

It's from a band called Orphaned Land. They're an Israeli progressive "death metal" band in a similar vein as Opeth. They skillfully employ the use of middle eastern melodies within a metal framework that covers the entire spectrum of intensity from the softest, most subtle of musical lines to the most brutal riffs. If you like Opeth, Dream Theater, etc. you should definitely give these guys a whirl. The similarity in structure is undeniable, but they're far from being clones. Also these guys are even more diverse if you can believe that. This particular song I've had on loop for some time now. It's got me with the beautifully atmospheric chorus, classic arena rock inspired guitar melody, kick-ass solo, and an ending that makes me want to get up and godsmack the life out of shit.

Soulful j-music doesn't work for me. The language just doesn't flow well or sound right in a soft or mellow tone. It's one of the reasons I've always liked Japanese and German language... very harsh and commanding sounds.

I realize my last few posts in this thread have been about the same band, but I've been listening to "Deathwalker" from The Unguided recently, as it's their newest single (which was supposed to be the 12th track on "Hellfrost", but they ran out of studio time). It's a badass song, and it's apparently about a Hellfrost (the role-playing game) scenario that one of the band members (or their friends) are playing.

Of course, the song isn't on YouTube, so instead I'll post the music video that was released a couple of weeks ago, that I talked about previously.

Hip Hop track from an artist named Immortal Technique. He released this particular album for free download, and as is generally the case with him, every track is solid. This track, entitled "Rich Man's World (the 1%)" is a fairly impressive job of running down the realities of how our nation is run:

My tune of lately:

Not so much lyrically heavy as the production is. Up and coming artist The Weeknd sings like any other R&B singer of today; like he's in his undies outside in Alaska. Or something. And Wiz, well, he's Wiz...

Production wise though, a foul boom bap with a musing melodie sampled from Ginuwine's intro on Tell Me Do U Wanna:

Ah Soundgarden...after some of Cornell's solo material and the fact that they've been apart since they broke up for longer than they were together, I had some trepidation about this record. Complete waste of my time though, the record is excellent. This is the first single from Soundgargen's first release of new material in 16 years:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y0A71tITqe0

It's far from my favorite on the record, but it should be indicative of the aggression that they managed to retain. There's significantly less outright "metal" stuff on the album though, so for me, while it stands solidly in the catalogue, it's not really their best release.

I've heard of Bohemian Rhapsody. That was in my highschool days. It got lost when I changed computers though I think.

Parkway Drive is another of my favorite metalcore bands, since the release of their debut album "Killing With a Smile" back in 2005. There are very few bands that I still listen to from that time period, and PD honestly wouldn't be one of them if their music hadn't evolved with every release. Starting out, they were just like any other metalcore band, screaming about love, loss, depression, loneliness... very emotional stuff (perfect for an angry, rebellious teenager). Their latest album however, which is where this video is from, has much deeper meaning: from the significance of dreams, to human corruption (political/religious/etc.), the end of the world (which we will cause), human individuality (thinking for yourself), and much more. They're like AILD in that respect; they have the ability to create something so brutal, and deliver a somewhat positive message at the same time.

ETF was much better before Radke had to be removed from the band, in my opinion. Their new vocalist is ex-blessthefall, so he's not bad... I just don't think he fits here. Granted, I may be biased, since I remember when Dying is Your Latest Fashion was released, and it was one of my favorite albums for a couple of months.

In no particular order, based off the similar styles of music: Silverstein, Chiodos, Black Veil Brides, From First to Last, Saosin, blessthefall, A Day to Remember, We Came as Romans, Eyes Set to Kill, Hopesfall, Bullet for My Valentine... I could probably name a few more later on if these aren't enough. Some are a bit heavier than others, but you should give them all a shot.

For those unaware, Puscifer is Maynard Jame's Keenan's second side project (or third "band", however you see fit to look at it) that was formed out of his personal desire to create and release music that otherwise wouldn't fit in the same genre as Tool or APC. He's released at least four albums under the name; I know there are also a couple demo/remix releases, but I don't have those. Anyone interested should definitely check them out.

Everyone has a story of how they came to like a band by some random act of chance. This band is one of mine. Back in 2006, I went to FYE to get the new album from "I Killed the Prom Queen". I had some money left over, so I started browsing for something good, when I stumbled onto "Phoenix Mourning". I had never heard of them, but I bought their CD purely for their name, and cover art. I was not disappointed. It's a shame they only released this one album.

You want to give A Static Lullaby a shot, particularly the Rattlesnake album.

Also Bring Me the Horizon's earlier albums. They've gotten more into the electronic stuff lately (which isn't a bad thing, Sempiternal is really good, it's just less similar to that above).

Maybe As I Lay Dying/Wovenwar as well (mostly the same band, but the lead singer got arrested for trying to place a hit on his wife). Wovenwar is better for it imo.

Bring Me the Horizon and As I Lay Dying... I already have all their albums. I've listened to them for years. BMTH was a much better band in their early days, in my opinion. "Sempiternal" is good, but the few singles they've released since aren't that great.

A Static Lullaby I've listened to before, but it's been a long time. I don't remember if I liked them. I'll check them out again. Wovenwar I haven't actually heard, so I'll give them a listen as well.

I listened to a few songs from A Static Lullaby and Wovenwar the other day, and honestly, I wasn't impressed. ASL reminded me of Silverstein, which isn't necessarily a bad thing (I like old Silverstein), but it wasn't enough to generate interest. Wovenwar was just AILD without the screaming (which makes sense, obviously, considering the members). That's not to say that either band was bad though; if they popped up on Pandora, or a friend's car radio, I would be content with listening.

This song is from another band that I discovered back in 2006. They had released an album prior to this one, and one after, but I never got around to purchasing those. I don't really have a story about them... I remember I first saw them in concert with some other band (Atreyu, I think it was), and immediately bought the CD. It's been one of my favorites since then.

Yes, they do. When the sounds fall out of sync, the conductor provides guidance. If all is well, he can not be there at all. Most of his work is in the preparation.

Getting into these mashups that give new life to songs I didn't like in their original forms:

New Breaking Benjamin single that was released yesterday. Sounds pretty good, in my opinion. Planning on seeing them in concert in May.

Sirirus Radio has been adding this older song to their set list lately. I can't get enough of it.

I haven't really listened to Trivium since "Ascendancy" was released. I stumbled across them again through Pandora. I'm liking what I hear so far.

It's been a long time since I last truly enjoyed some music, other than soothing classical I mean.

Insanely high replay value for me!

Mind you, this piece of art was directed by none other than Shinichiro Watanabe himself. In his second collab (the previous being Blade Runner Black Out 2022 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrZk9sSgRyQ)) Flying Lotus shows that he MOS DEF needs to do a full soundtrack on an anime series by the legend. Samurai Champloo is my all time favorite anime after all (R.I.P. Nujabes).

The first take channel shows japanese artists singing their song in a very simple setting and in one go.
That version by LiSA is just incredible. Some variations from the more polished studio version, but still a powerfull interpretation.

It would take a lot of convincing for me to believe that Band Maid wasn't the best touring (or metal) rhythm section in all of a Japanese rock:

https://youtu.be/x4hxLeHbqZo
And that Kanami wasn't one of the Top 5 guitarists in Japan period (she does all the band's arrangements). Akane is probably the best active drummer in the country (besides her idol and influence from Maximum the Hormone). The Log Horizon OP they were commissioned to do is 210 bpm! Faster than Through the Fire and the Flames by Dragonforce.

They couldn't tour last year, so they just put out a new album right on the heels of the last one they released.

There's maybe one "meh" song on every three of their albums.

I agree. I hope I can get to see them at Japan Expo some day... when Japan Expo happens again...

I was considering getting tickets to Inkcarceration last year. Band Maid and a ton of other great bands were on the lineup for 2020.

Been a minute since I was able to find/access these forums again.

Ever since my HDD died back in 2011-12-ish, my music game has been met with low maintenance. Which lead to a late discovery from last year which has been on repeat ever since.

It's funny how some artists just pop back in your head so you do a Spotify search to see if they're on it.

Man, what a musically rich, ten track album this is! Good to see those artist from back then only get better with time!
