well since my thread about competitions in the general discussion forums turned into shit very fast i thought lets take it to a more serious level here since some ppl were interested.

the contest can basicly work like the previous ones, with the exeption that we dont have LCD to rely on for hosting this time so if anyone is good with websites and stuff like that and could spare some time that would be great, preferably a person who doesnt want to enter the contest but its not required.

why dont you just have it in a poll here, with links to each sig, all hosted by whoever (some1 not in the competition preferably), and then after about a week the winner can be announced along with the votes which every1 else got. that way you cant vote more than once and its only open to GW members.

last time it was 2 weeks to make the sigs, and 1 week for voting. i take it its only 1 round? or are we having semis, finals etc.

oh and also, whats the theme. imo it should be a set naruto character, that way its completely fair. another good thing would be to do what LCD did in the first round of the very first sig contest, where he supplied the pics that could be used in the sig. that made it interesting i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif

finally, will the sig have to conform to forum sig rules? it does kinda restrict creativity

PSJ
Fri, 01-21-2005, 11:44 AM
yea that would be a way to go at it with the forum voting but we still need someone who can host them.... and a set naruto character would be good, its more fun with semis and finals to. and for the size we should ask the ones that joins the comp.

ive got plenty of space to host them but i want to take part too. i suppose aslong as i rename every1s submitted images to 1.jpg 2.jpg etc then it would be ok though?

400x80 is kinda small. What about 500x100?

I hadnt done one here on GW before. I assume that theres the size limitation and the material of the sig is specific. Is there any "gotwoot-specific" rules I should know about?

PSJ
Fri, 01-21-2005, 02:46 PM
nah the only rules we usually have is size and character for the first round we sometimes have specific images we have to use. 500x100 sounds good to me. so second round could be a set character but stock is free of choice, third could possibly be a choice of 3 characters and free stock, final could be anything naruto

ren well i dont see any problem with you hosting and taking part but you gotta keep track on who made which sig and anounce qualifiers etc. etc.

okay so should we agree on 500x100? for size.

get thi3f to do the hosting and voting stuff. the last one he did worked out great. and personally, i think the sig size max should be 500 x 150 pixels. 400 x 80 is a too small to express all the little details and whatnot.

r3n
Fri, 01-21-2005, 03:08 PM
im still in favour of having the voting in the forums itself, it just seems like theres less chance of rigging happening

first round should be set character (voted like last time imo), with supplied stock images by erm... whoever, preferably some1 not in the contest but still has some skill with sigs otherwise the pics might be kinda crap/not varied enough. 2nd round should be chosen char (voted again) with complete freedom of sig content, and 3rd and finals etc like PSJ said.

whats the prize in this? imo it should be something like "Sig Master" under the winners name (in place of genin/chuunin etc.).

oh and for rounds, i take it the top half of ppl go thru to the next round? or should it be that theres 8 that qual from round 1 so we can have quarter finals, semis then a final?

PSJ
Fri, 01-21-2005, 03:27 PM
yea and depending on how many that enters we might have to cut the contest down to qualifing, semi and finals. and yea a title like sig master would be cool but i wouldnt want to trade my title as im the only one that actually got it.

Count me in, then.

how about a playoff format, much like GotWoot:Survivor?

r3n
Fri, 01-21-2005, 04:08 PM
we did playoffs last time to decide runner up and winner, which is quite good fun. also sig size shouldnt have a limit, obviously if its stupidly oversize it cant be considered a sig, but 500x100 is too skinny.

I'm in to. I just want to make sure though, after we do decide on the contest, a new topic will be made with all the rules and everything right? Like the deadlines, characters allowed, sig limits, etc.? Its my first time joining the GW contest to, I dont want to break any rules.

lol no wierd rules like that i think we should stick to the old rules, and yes there will be a new topic with rules deadlines etc. etc. once we got it all set up.

Thats great Thi3f! Since you have the host to place the sigs, why dont you set up the contest details and stuff as well?
@Knives: anything above 400 X 80 would be suitable for a contest, imo. If we have something above, we can add more details or whatever to the sig to make them better than what we can do to a 400 X 80 size.

are we all agreeing to thi3f doing the voting system again? i think it's the best idea. the voting system was easy and it made sure people couldn't vote twice.

anyway... what's the theme this time?

think we decided its a lot less hassle for everyone inc. thief if we jst vote onsite? and why does it have to be 500x100 its too long and narrow.

both me and mut said 500x150 not 500x100. since theif already got everything its more of a hassle to do it here, ite better if we let theif handle the voting.

well I cant do animation(yet) so Im gonna have to say no on that, the theme should be GSD, and it should be of a character/thing we havent done yet, other then that, everything else is fine with me(even if we dont do GSD, I'll still do it)

PSJ
Sun, 01-23-2005, 05:53 PM
well im up for gsd and in my opinion we should have a set gundam/character to do. so lets decide the rules size 500x150, lets have it for 3 rounds 1st round 6 advances then 2nd round will be three semi finals where the winner fomr each advances to 3rd where 1st,2nd,3rd is decided. no animations.

i'd like to join in, but it really depends on the due date.

i can do it if its in feb.

PSJ

it will probably not be in januari, we are still in the early planning and set up right now.....

r3n
Sun, 01-23-2005, 07:14 PM
never watched GSD, so thats a bit wank. should probably be naruto to make it fair as every1 here watches that but i guess you guys dont agree. i dont particularly like making sigs of things ive never seen b4 and gundam doesnt really float my boat. ohwell. if youre going to make it gundam you may aswell just make it a general mecha catagory, cos they all look the same in gundam (zzz)

NM

How about we make the contest a complete free for all? That way, we wont have to worry about who doesnt have a certain anime that was originally going to be the theme of the contest. But if we plan on having a theme, I think we could do either Naruto or Full Metal Alchemist. I'm pretty sure mostly everyone here has seen these two.

r3n
Sun, 01-23-2005, 07:35 PM
its a lot easier if the character and pics are set for the first round as ppl can just end up voting for a sig as theres an "injoke" for that anime or because they think the character shown in that sig is cool. but seriously, everyone here watches naruto, so why not just have a vote as to what character everyone wants for the first round like the first sig contest, then thief can chose the pics to be used.

Naroku
Sun, 01-23-2005, 07:44 PM
im in!

i think we should do Naruto thats pretty much the most popular anime on GW so we dont have to worry about doing sigs for animes we know nothing about

Mut
Sun, 01-23-2005, 08:42 PM
all of us need to the same theme and it has to be the same size. all of you should know why this is a must.

and having more than 1 round is pointless if one person wins by a landslide. unless the 1st place and second place are no more than 5 votes apart, we shouldn't more than 1 round.

Naroku
Sun, 01-23-2005, 09:19 PM
yes if we have all different sizes that gives an avvantage to people who make latger sigs because they can add more they all must be the same size

and if we don't have one specified theme people will vote on sigs based on their favorite character or anime, as it was said before

Kagemane_no_Jutsu
Sun, 01-23-2005, 10:19 PM
I don't think Naruto is a good choice for the theme. Something from GSD would be cool. Or even just GS.

Naroku
Sun, 01-23-2005, 11:17 PM
but some people have never seen GSD, animes like Naruto and FMA are very popular, so the contest will have more entries

PSJ
Mon, 01-24-2005, 11:06 AM
naruto is a good choice for a sig im not in for the fma thing tho. and i disagree mut, if 8 ppl or more join it would be more fun to have more rounds, but if we are less than 8 ppl 1 round should be neough.

r3n
Mon, 01-24-2005, 01:53 PM
i think it would be cool to do a general mecha theme for the first round as im sure everyone as seen atleast something mecha. ive never watched gundam seed but ive seen loads of other mecha stuff as im sure a lot of ppl have.

what do you think?

PSJ
Mon, 01-24-2005, 05:43 PM

Knives122
Mon, 01-24-2005, 10:07 PM
I dont think it is, but doing a mecha in general would be cool, I could find some Macross stuff, or even Tekkaman Blade

r3n
Tue, 01-25-2005, 07:49 AM
seeing as weve already increased the sig size to 500x150 i dont see why animation shouldnt be allowed, its not like any of the sigs can be used in the forum neways. what u think PSJ

PSJ
Tue, 01-25-2005, 09:13 AM
well, it doesnt matter for me really, i think you need some badass skills to make animation look good so if you want to try it its fine by me.

r3n
Tue, 01-25-2005, 12:08 PM
agreed, animation is tricky to get right, most of the sigs with animation ive seen just destract from the art

PSJ
Tue, 01-25-2005, 02:00 PM
yea, i think if for example i tried animation it would make the sig look worse and not better.

So whats the plan for the theme of the sigs? To keep it simple, I say we just go with Naruto. Everyone here watches it. We could always do a free-for-all but as Mut and Naroku said, one specified theme is a must, otherwise people would just vote for their favorite character/anime. I am up for the Mecha theme though i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif.

I say 400 x 100 free-for-all sig contest =D.

People submit their stuff before a certain date and it all gets thrown into one big thread for voting.

Sound good? Yes it does.
