I dont like the sport baseball but i like sport anime so i tried this anime, the first ep was pretty good for a first ep for a sport anime. If you like sport anime, you will like it.

you can find it in animesuki.

Tue, 01-25-2005, 05:21 PM
yeah im watching it at the moment..

it's a good watch for now... but if the whole anime is Goro as a kid i won't like it too much, I would prefer that he grows up a bit....

Hakeem_21
Wed, 01-26-2005, 11:38 AM
Well you see in the intro that he will grow to 11,12 years old and maybe even older later.

I like it too,it has been good so far, first time i saw some baseball action.

Edit: Eps 4 and 5 are out in animesuki.

Im still watching and enjoying it . I like the drama its pretty good for a sport anime. After watching ep 7 i have to say that Goro has become stronger after all that has happened to him. Cant wait to ep 8 its 25% done right now.

Anyone still watching this?

This is really a great series, one of the best Sports anime i've encountered...

BTW, there's a second season coming, so you can expect more than 26 episodes...

I watch it and its my fav show of all the shows i watch. About the seacond season i knew it a long time before they confirmed it cause the manga is over 52 vols and sport animes are know to be longt.

But my fav thing about Major isnt the sport its the drama even if the baseball games are fun.

Munsu
Thu, 07-07-2005, 03:37 AM
Of course... i rarely watch Sports anime for the game themselves, it's for the the drama and plot that sorround the games... Sports anime tend to make the games in the series pretty boring, though Major is doing a good job in keeping it fresh...

Hakeem_21
Fri, 07-08-2005, 06:06 PM
Sport animes like Ippo and Major you watch for the story but an anime like Prince of Tennis you watch only to see the games cause there isnt a good story exact. The story is he beats everyone he meets.

Finally watched till the end... Great series... one of my favorite animes all-time... including non sport ones... Loved how it ended also, same atmosphere it had during the first couple of episodes...

Now let's wait for the next series, i hope it comes out soon...

anyone has any idea on when it comes out?

Spoilers if you havent seen the first season

I specaily liked when Ryoko talked shit about his dad infront of Goro blaming Honda sr for the accident. A great scene that made beyond angry at the stupid girl. I never liked how easy he forgave just because of the game.

I saw MJN's version last night. It was great seeing Goro shut up that annoying smartass coach. Im liking what they are doing with Yamane. You feel sorry for the guy. Hope he is in the same high school as Goro so he can be in the same team.

Its was special seeing Goro having two dads in his flashback first he thinks about Shigeno, then Shigeno mentions Honda.

I wonder one thing,if he will have the name Honda when he goes pro. I mean he wanted to be like his father or will he play with his new name.

Wow, i've watched up to ep 8 now and all i can say is that you don't find many shows on this level. I love how it just doesn't focus on the sport and throw all character development and drama out the window like Prince of Tennis does. This show reminds me a little of Ippo. To me it's that good, at least this far.

Anyone know how long this show will run for?

Hakeem_21
Thu, 01-26-2006, 09:01 PM
Atleast two seasons of 26 eps each. The manga is over 52 vols so it can be over 100 eps.

It reminds me of Ippo too when its about the characters and how good the story outside the sport is.

this ep was great! I'm all giddy about what might happen in the later episodes i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif A potential Toshiya/Goro teamup, introduction of a freaking amazing opponent, all the eps where they're levelling up, and then everyone finally converge to a game and go nuts!

I think one of the best aspects of Major is that the main characters experience loss. Not any of those half-assed wins that somehow motivated them to become stronger, but actual losses that they strive to overcome. Man, I want TEN episodes to come out next week! =P

Man this show is good. I have almost finished season 1, 3 eps to go. This is one of the best animes i have ever seen, it is right up there with ippo as the best sports anime ever. The drama this show had in the first few eps was mind blowing, in the later eps they cut back on that slightly but still kept a good portion of it. The character development and the action is first rate to.

EDIT: Started on season 2. The first 2 eps were incredible, i can't believe how good this show is. The characters developed nicely from season 1 to season 2, i like the additional characters to. Can't wait until they start playing some games.

Shit! ep 35 was crazy i knew that new guy was gonna be better than Goro but to crush Goro like that.

I cant wait to see what he does in 36 to get better. Goro lives to beat stronger opponents and this guy came in the right moment for Goro. Now he can improve quickly so he wont be small fish in high school.

The new guy pitch cant be as fast as Gibson.

Finally caught up. This show is amazing, the drama and the action that is packed into each episode, i would almost call this show better than Ippo. The only thing Major is missing is characters, sure there are some but not on the level of Ippo.

Does anyone know when this show airs in Japan and if we can expect 36 soon?

Hakeem_21
Thu, 02-23-2006, 12:15 PM
I wouldn't say its as good Ippo cause it lacks the comedy, characters, high moments of Ippo. Also the boxing fights are much more entertaining. Its a clear runner up tough.

When it airs in Japan isnt important, its when MJN wants to realese next ep is the thing.

Ep 37 was awesome i liked how Komori went out against a guy who was just too good for him. I didnt like how he thought Toshiya was a genius that didnt train so hard.

Hehe it was interesting seeing Goro not being the famous ace and funny how he reacted.

I dont get one thing. What is this senior league thing? Is that a league for the good middle school guys?

Munsu
Wed, 03-22-2006, 08:37 AM
From what I gather, Senior League is just an age bracket for Little League in Japan which uses hardball. There's also the rubberball baseball league which is between middle school teams. Little Leagues have no affiliation with any school. The rubberball leagues are a tournament between schools. That's my take on the situation.

Hakeem_21
Thu, 03-23-2006, 07:55 AM
Ah ok good to know.

Didnt Goro train with hardballs? I cant wait them to see being suprised of his skill. Its not often Goro is the underdog, most times he is the famous ace all teams worry about.

Munsu
Thu, 03-23-2006, 08:04 AM
Everyone pretty much trains with hardballs, things simply change depending on what league you're playing. But as you train by yourself, I'm sure everyone uses hardballs. Goro just didn't want to play middle school baseball so that he wouldn't get used to playing with rubberballs, that's all.

This show is amazingly good, i would call it better than Ippo. The drama around the sport is much much better written in Major than it is in Ippo, that's the main reason i love this show. The story is so well written, i just hope someoen picks up the manga soon appearently it is up to vol 58 in Japan.

Yeah, this was a good episode... I'm pissed that we never get to see Goro play, and when he is handed the ball the episode ends. I'm guessing that he'll dominate for a while, and then get crushed by someone.

Hakeem_21

Yeah it was good but very annoying that it ended when Goro got in the game.

I liked how Sato shined this with his cleverness.
I dont he will dominate all of next ep cause its called "scholars ability"

what a shitty school Kaido is, with a game that that teaches them pain. Im starting to dislike that Goro joined,he should have joined another team and played against Kaido.

Honoko
Sun, 05-21-2006, 12:50 AM
Ya, I would've also preferred Goro joining some non-elite team and beat the crap out of Kaido but then again, that direction would've been repetitive and boring, since he's done that twice now, right? I think what'd be awesome is if he and Toshi manage to lay the smack down on the varsity team, and then transfer to another school to actually compete with the Kaido baseball team in nationals. That would rule.

Hakeem_21
Sun, 05-21-2006, 07:22 AM
I would like that more cause this school is sooo annoying.

PSJ
Sun, 05-21-2006, 08:09 AM
I like the angle the show takes from here, it's just not the normal "underdog beating the elite" which i find very repetitive and boring since it's always that way in sports anime, some loser guy who isn't good at anything finds himself fairly good at something and then starts training his ass off to beat the genius with natural ability through some kind of miracle. Now we get to follow that genius and the constant struggle to be on top even for someone born with natural ability, cause that is the truth in all sports.

Actually, if Mayamura comes out and beats Goro, I won't mind. But I just want to see what level Goro is at right now. Goro does have a breaking ball. I think he's gonna have to improve on that pitch next.

Hakeem_21

Goro weakness is he doesnt have a breaking ball like Muyamura, when did he get one? Or you only think he has?

There is no reason for Muyamura to play and crush Goro again cause he has already done that.

He showed a breaking ball in his Little League days. He hasn't used it since and it'd be nice if he included that in his repetoire again.

He did it alot during the game against Yokohama Little. Around ep 21 or 22, I think. All the kids thought it was a change-up but the Yokohama coach called it a true breaking ball.

Hakeem_21

Do you think Goro will do a breaking ball again or is he gonna with just fastball ?

Honoko
Thu, 05-25-2006, 09:55 AM
For this particular game, I wouldn't mind him shutting down everyone with just his fastball.

But I'd rather he at least formally add the breaking ball to his repetoire, even if he'd use it very rarely. Given the character/story so far, his goal is to have a pitch like Gibson (all fastballs), and be a batter like his dad. Which, in baseball, is a pretty rare, if not impossible, accomplishment, right?

Hakeem_21
Thu, 05-25-2006, 10:26 AM
I only know baseball from tv,movies and anime ;)

I would like to see him use breaking balls further down the line. Right now he dont need it since his fast ball is pretty good.

Been watching Major closely since S2 came out.. I really enjoyed it when they used the Believe Me music there.. Has any other songs/melodies from fort minor been used there? Same, but I was actually thinking that it was part of his plot to confuse the opposing team... make them think he doesn't have any control, when he does indeed have control. Proof of it can be seen with the strikeout to the clean-up batter, and the pitch he threw when they showed bunt.

I just hope Major doesnt lose any of the things that make it great. Well, since it seems that the manga is still going good in Japan, as long as they stick to it there should be no problem.

He was the strongest pitcher in season 2. But it would in fact be easy to stop his pitches, since he still isnt a mature enough player to maintain himself in perfect condition. Also, Goro technically gets better and faster as the game goes on, and is usually less dominating in the start. There will probably be also new teams introduced which are comprised of much better players and such, just to make the series have meaning and direction. (I personally dont like this idea though, since it wouldnt make sense since Kaido was supposed to be the best team)

It would probably be better if Goro just has to make up for a weak team like before, since that is when he really shines IMO.

Honoko

My only problem with this suggestion is that it's been done in the Major storyline at least twice now. I'd appreciate if they can think of another avenue of storytelling. But otherwise, any showcase of Goro-ownage won't get too many complaints from me haha :p

Season 3 sounds great i just finished season 2 after a break from Major and i must say that i timed it pretty well.

The only danger i can find in this scenario is that Goro will shine a little to much and maybe also his team mates if they start out worthless and grow at an insane speed.

I hope the drama and story is kept in the front seat this season to, if they make it more about the games than the struggle it will lose alot of it's edge.

I also would like to see the return of some characters. I think one of this shows main down points is the lack of strong characters, you got Goro and Sato from the begining and also Shimizu a little. Aside from those three we always run into new characters. I really disliked alot of the dream island characters actually, they all felt very weak somehow.

Don't get me wrong though i still enjoy the show alot. I love that Goro turned left handed. That's simply awesome.

Major 3 MJN Joint Off

January 28, 2007 at 12:20pm
It is my unfortunate duty to announce that our joint with Minor Ja Nai Fanubs for Major Season 3 is officially not off the table. We at Saizen wish them all the best with their efforts.

We are also open to and searching for a joint for this project as we have a lot of dedicated staff that really want to work on Major Season 3 still. Joint applicants should bring a translator and encoder to the table for joint discussions (a typesetter and editor would help too).

We are also looking for a translator for Major Season 3 in the event that there is no joint out there to be made. Hence, if you can translate Japanese to English and like Major as much as we do please send us an e-mail at saizen.recruits@gmail.com

P.S. Major S2 - 26 should be coming soon...

MJN will work on it alone now, so we'll see some releases soon and a faster pace, though sacrificing some quality. But this has been taking too long, so it's all good.

I have also been watching the raws. and i can't wait for the subs, even though i don't know japanese i can sort of figure out what they are talking about(at least i think so). I'll let the subs be the answer to that :P.

They had some decent amount of mistranslations, or lack of translation, for that matter at times. And a lot of grammatical errors which is what really bothered me. But this is an easy series to understand so it's easy to grasp what's going on, and if any mistranslation existed it wasn't really too off.

I haven't checked up much of the Saizen releases, but I did preffer their editing and for that I'm replacing all of second season with their release.

Yea like Goro doesn't have control in his pitches? I would say that is the one thing he isn't lacking. Together with speed. The whole deal with Goro is that he doesn't need any other pitch than his fastball to beat every slugger out there.

I agree with you though, i would like him to use some other pitches to. I am a fan of the fork ball, i think that's an interesting pitch. Or what about that breaking ball he used in the first season before he busted his shoulder?

EDIT: About the translations of MJN i think they are french, at least the guy in charge seems to be french so maybe that's why they have some grammatical errors once in a while.

EDIT2: Just watched 53 and 54 with subs. Amazing eps. I dislike the dude with the attitude problem though. The guy out of those three that Fuji knows who isn't fat and doesn't wear glasses. He seems to hate baseball pretty bad so my guess is that he had some kind of bad experience with baseball prior to joining Seishuu. I would hate it if he just is an ass and changes for some miraculous reason later on.

Honoko
Wed, 01-31-2007, 06:33 PM
I was under the impression that by the time he defeated Kaido last season, he was still throwing everything right down the middle. No one was able to hit it because of the ball's speed. I could be wrong. But the fact that no one ever did one of those "high inside strike?! wtf?!" comments led me to believe that he was still throwing his ball right down the middle.

I think that he's at a point where he needs to learn a breaking ball of some sort. There's always improvement for speed and control, sure, and we can't discount his dream of throwing only fastballs to win games... but... if this team-formation storyline is similar to the Little League one (even Goro made this parallel in expressing his excitement), then I don't quite think the present-Goro will go through a game against Kaido at Koshien throwing just fastballs. The Kaido team is super-motivated to defeat Goro now so I wouldn't be surprised if Toshi at that point would be able to hit Goro's pitch.

That's just my thoughts and speculation. I've been thinking the timeline of the 26-ep season would be first half: team formation and tournament and then second half:Koshien tournament. Plus I'm rooting for a game between Seishuu and Mifune somewhere, just to see some old characters again ^^

Great episode, lots of drama. I love how Shingo reminds me of Goro as a kid only with less attitude.

The ep was great and you finally got to understand abit about Fuji and that girl who hang around Goro al the time. She's one hell of a bitch, she really can't take an accident. She should stop blaiming others and do her rehab seriously. Fucking bitch.

shinta|hikari
Tue, 02-13-2007, 10:38 AM
She is a bitch, but you should also consider how important club activities and contests are for Japanese students. Most of their school life is really based on club activities, and being selected to participate in a tournament is no small deal, dealing with both issues of skill and seniority. She must have a lot of hate for the guy that ruined that for her.

PSJ
Tue, 02-13-2007, 10:58 AM
Sure but it is no diffrent than any other sport you play in or out of school. It happened in middle school(is that the correct term?) she should let it go by now. It's real childish to hate a guy who hurt her by accident.

Most injuries can be cured with rehab training and if she really loved the sport and not the attention she would've let go of her hatred or used it as fuel to get back in shape. She seems cured now but all she does is going around acting like a bitch. She's acting just like Yamane did before Goro showed him that just because he injured his right arm doesn't mean he can't play anymore.

I hate people who act like that bitch, going around sulking because she got injured, she should do something about it or go hide.

shinta|hikari
Tue, 02-13-2007, 11:04 AM
She's mad not because the injury was that serious, but the fact that it made her miss the tournament, which like I said, is technically a once in a lifetime chance considering how Japanese people tend to approach adolescent life in stages. Im not saying her attitude is justified, but its not for no reason either.

Tue, 02-13-2007, 11:29 AM
A tournament in middle school shouldn't mean that much. I understand that it might be very diffrent over there but she is mad at him for years and she doesn't even bother trying to compete again she's just sulking and hating. Now that's just pitiful, that's what i think anyway. I understand your point though.

shinta|hikari
Tue, 02-13-2007, 08:21 PM
A tournament in middle school is very important for those who cant really become pros. Goro probably wouldnt bear a grudge from missing a tournament because he is aiming to be a pro player, but for those whose chance to get glory at something they enjoy is an infinitely rare chance, it means much more.

Though I agree with you that she is definitely NOT a likeable character.

I wonder when Shimizu will finally confess to Goro. And does Goro have any feeling for her at all? I hope Goro doesnt say something stupid like "I want to focus on baseball for now" since both his fathers actually married and had kids despite being a baseball-baka.

I agree. because beside from point that I don't want Shinta to catchup my post count, it was her future in sport that was shattered, she really had the chance to become great.

shinta|hikari
Wed, 02-14-2007, 09:26 AM
Thats not the point. She probably made a full recovery after that, so if she could really be great then she would have become great even now. The point of her anger is the fact that she missed a rare chance that probably wont come again.

I actually think she isnt that much of an athlete, since she didnt continue even after junior high. If she really had as much potential as maybe Goro, an incident like that wouldnt stop her.

Otherwise, I guess this ep confirmed for me that Goro's got really good control with his fastball now? Let's see some breaking ball development!

Do you think we'll see a love triangle in the near future? I can see Kaoru beginning to like Fuji. The problem will be if Goro can take his mind of baseball for a second and start feeling jelous. It would be nice to see that female pitcher that idolized Gibson when they played in the little leagues, the girl from the Yokohama team.

This would be great. It'd be a novelty to see Goro focus on something else besides baseball haha :p I always thought of him and Shimizu as a foregone conclusion but this is one prediction I wouldn't mind seeing wrong.

Unfortunately, Goro right now seems super focused on beating Kaido so if there's gonna be any love triangle, I think it'll all happen without him really noticing.

shinta|hikari
Wed, 02-28-2007, 02:22 AM
A love triangle would be a nice twist, but I really doubt jealousy would come from Goro. It would serve to make him more human though, instead of a baseball machine.

Why doesnt Shimizu just confess and get it over with? If she does it during a tough game, Goro might just absentmindedly say "yeah" because he doesnt want to be bothered.

PSJ
Wed, 03-07-2007, 12:32 PM
Why would it make him more human if he got jealous or interested in Shimizu? To me it seems like Goro sees Shimizu as a very good friend and nothing more, it is possible for a guy to be friends with girls.

I'm sure there will come along a female that will spark Goro's interest.

It will make him more human because recently he hasnt been acting like one. Well, maybe an obsessed human, but my point is it would make him a more well rounded character with facets other than his love for baseball (like humans do).

Im rooting for Shimizu. The only reason Goro liked that other girl is because he thought that she was a good pitcher (and cute), which is probably no longer the case, considering Goro's level.

I'm pretty sure someone in particular sent this teacher over. Probably one of Goro's teachers and trainers from Kaido, or maybe Gibson? I don't know. It was a nice episode, but the second half was pretty slow and uneventful in my opinion... I guess it was needed to make the team get closer faster. Definately a great episode, and I hope Saizen keeps up the subbing speed. I wonder what the injured foot will do to Goro's pitching... Maybe he won't be able to fully use his pitching power until the last game of the season, when the foot is healed, which would mean that the team has to get better as they can't rely upon Goro being at full strength?

Also, did anyone else think the little kid (Shimizu's little brother) wasn't playing seriously during the game or at least during his first at bat? I mean, he was able to hit Goro's pitch (though probably not at full strength), yet has trouble with the second string Kaido team pitching...

Yeah, that's what I thought, but was mislead by the previews saying that their fourth opponent had a familiar battery while showing the Kaido team. But it indeed looks like they have one more game before Kaido, you're right. I wonder who this team they are facing has as their pitcher and catcher.

Maybe it's that pitcher that was always controlled by his dad, who was molding him to be the perfect pitcher but treated the rest of the team like shit.

I don't know if I would say that the series has been done for a while... Season 3 just ended a month ago, with Season 4 already confirmed and in the works (typically they take a half year off between seasons, so longer sub times between episodes means we don't hit the end of Season 3 and then have to wait 6 months for the next subbed episode)

My personal theory of why the subs are so slow is that the groups translating figure that as long as they get the subs all in before January, they can go as slow as they want because even if they kept the pace up, the viewer still has to wait til Jan. So hence slower, drawn-out pacing.

First off, it's not really "slow", and secondly, the translator on major was promised it would be her project, and her project only.
