I really hate the dialogue in this anime sometimes. Like Sato is so hypocritical with the intentional walks and talks about how he'd do anything to win. Then he goes and says stuff about how they should challenge him.
Munsu
Tue, 09-11-2007, 09:59 AM
Well his intention was to trick them into pitching to him and to get under the catcher's skin, so it's not really him being a hypocrite... just him playing mind games with Tashiro.

That's true, but it still kinda irks me when Sato talks like that.

Well it wasn't the end, looks like the game will be finished next episode or early last episode, which I doubt. They can't go too far into extra innings, Goro can't possibly pitch many more innigs.
The way I see it, either Goro loses on his first trip to the mound or it'll go for a couple of more innings. The reason being that I very much think that Goro will bat against Mayimura once again, but I don't see anyone getting on base against him so it'll be 3 innings before Goro has another chance to bat against him. We'll see.

I'm really disliking all the times Major uses all these "RUN HONDA!" battleshouts that miraculously allow someone to perform superhuman deeds, or the Father-pat on the shoulder that occurred in his imagination.

It's fine. I liked how the game ended, he "beating" Mayamura and then collapsing.

Yeah, it did redeem it. I honestly wanted them to lose. If they had won, it would've left a punch to the gut feeling.
Munsu
Thu, 09-27-2007, 12:36 PM
I had a feeling they would lose. No way they drag their journey to the koshien in season 4, so their journey had to end here. Anyways, it looks like Goro is being recruited in the USA or something from what I saw in the previews... do you think we'll get to see Gibson?
animus
Thu, 09-27-2007, 12:47 PM
Haha at first I thought that rounded beared middleaged pitcher was Gibson past his prime for a second or two. Who knows, maybe Gibson'll still be pitching or taking a coaching job.
Honoko
Thu, 09-27-2007, 04:24 PM
Whew, I'm glad they lost. Major's a bit less and less about baseball nowadays, replacing it with the cliched "power out of nowhere" spurts here and there. Not that that's a bad thing, because I typically enjoy watching that sort of thing (no matter how unrealistic). But if Goro's team had won the game, I definitely would consider that as stretching an already thin suspension of reality.

Quick question.
I know that when NEET first started releasing Major episodes in season 3, their subbing was horrible, with a lot of missed lines and so forth. Has that improved at all, or is it sacrificing a lot to get the quick release from them?

Hmm, so Goro is throwing at 100MPH, with that it seems like it won't be too long before he gets to the Majors, though I doubt it would be this season. He really needs to work on a breaking ball.

I agree, Goro really needs a breaking ball. You'd think after Season 3, he'd take time to learn to throw a slide.
The series is doing Goro justice now. Hopefully it stays this way till the end of the season. :)

This might have been mentioned before but honestly so far the only season I really liked was the first one, that one was good actually scrap that it was frikken great. Afterwards it feels as if it just lost the touch, it wasn't simply about baseball but about life as well, there was a good mix of things like his father, growing up and things outside of baseball after that it seemed like it lost those touches and just kept going on about well baseball. Not to mention Goro seemed to have more personality as a kid than teenager unless he just got dumber.

Might be some small spoilers below.
I like the way the series tells us all about how everyone is doing, but I still think it should focus a bit more on Goro. Not complaining about the current episodes, but those before that. I think it was 3 or 4 episodes in a row without Goro, but it might just have felt that way. The last few episodes have been good. I guess the next season will be about him in the majors, or maybe just trying to get there. He still refuses to learn breaking balls, hehe. It's a while ago now, but "I pitch only fastballs" in english during his tryout made me laugh.

If there is a season 5, I think I'll follow the Raws instead of waiting for MJN. Their slowness is killing any interest I may have with the series. Which is probably why downloads per episode have dropped.
So if a season 5 comes out, I'll follow the Raws. No point waiting 6 months past the season ending to watch it.
That's why I wish another group would have picked it up. I hope a group picks it up if a season 5 does come out. Checking ANN, there's no mention of a season 5. Maybe not enough viewers to keep this awesome series going. :/

Well, finally finished the series. Overall a well done series, though I think the last 3 seasons where a bit sub-par (mainly due to repetitive themes), while the first 2 seasons where quite excellent.
I really like when shows do an aftermath portion when they end the series, and it was nice to see here. Considering the plague of bad endings in just about everywhere, this one was more than satisfactory. Though I wish they had aged some of the characters, particularly the baseball players... they all remained the same.
Hopefully someone will sub the one episode OVA, Major: Message soon.

Well, was looking into this series again, since I began watching Ace of the Diamond, and noticed that I didn't recall watching the Major: Message OVA. Then I also noticed that 3 years ago more Major was animated that I wasn't aware of, a previous arc that wasn't animated, the World Series. It does take place prior to the Message OVA though.
Anyways, it was really nice watching both sets of OVAs. The Message one was great, everything went full circle since the beginning of the series, so it was a good way to end the series.
It's very rare that we go through a full life of a character in a series as we've done wtih Goro, we exprienced his full childhood, adolescence and had a very good peek at his adulthood starting a family and all. It had some high and lows, but in all worth the journey for me.
For those interested, a new manga started called Major 2nd and it features Goro's son, so it'll be another opportunity to see more of their life. I hope they don't screw it up. Four chapters have been scanlated so far:
https://mega.co.nz/#F!gc8wQK5I!hVxuyo35hkuR9Ao_9nrYmA
I'm enjoying the angle they're going so far with it, we'll see.
In any case, watching the OVAs I hadn't bothered to watch in the last couple of years was a good way to reminiscence on all that I enjoyed from this series.

The MC was a little OP, but at least the way he breaks his body because of his OPness links to real life cases seen in sports. And it's true you do not get lots of shows that go from childhood to end of active athlete career.

Been over 7 years.
Major 2nd's first episode was ok. I guessing this was just an introduction episode anyway.
I hope it is as good as Major.
Now that we have Horrible subs. This won't be like 7-10 years ago when ONE group wanted to sub Major and only did a release of one episode every 2 months. I am happy about that change. :) Back then it was like certain groups were holding series hostage with their delays.

We can just continue this one, it's essentially a direct sequel.
Haven't watched the episode yet, but I read the manga... though it's not far along (translated wise). I'll watch the episode later. I don't expect it to be as good as Major, main character is not as compelling in my opinion and a whiner. But I had no problem reading the manga, so I should be entertained with it.
One my main gripes is that Goro is not really much of a presence so far.

With what Munso says.
The original is so good. I think there are 150 episodes across 6 seasons. Not many anime that follow a kid, his love interest and rivals from childhood to adult age. By now Goro is probably our ages now lol, 35-40 age range.
