i need help! i'm having trouble making the subtitle appear on my screen, does anybody know how?

i downloaded a movie that is DVD-ripped having AVI as its filename extension and it included a .srt file, the file is like : movie.2004.DVDRip.XviD.AC3.2CH.GRE-JJH.srt

i heard that the file with srt extension is used to produce or goes along with the video file to make the subtitles appear; but i don't know what to do... & how to make it appear.

please help me solve this problem... very Urgent!

and if ever this problem will be solved... i also need help in converting it to an mpeg video file format with the subtitles visible. hope you guys can help me on this too.

what player are you using, Windows media player? VLC?

in WMP goto Play > Captions and Subtitles > On if available.
VLC Open File and check (i think) subtitles, and you can point to the actual file.

You should try using The core media player (http://www.corecoded.com/). I used it with avi files that included the srt and it works fine. It will automatically detect the file for the subs and play the vid with them.

Sorry but I don't know about making vcds with the subs from vid+the srt file.
You can this site (http://www.videohelp.com/) and see if anything there could help ya.
