Hello people. I have an online radio that I do on my campus. Despite my numerous efforts I can't get anyone on campus to listen despite my clever marketing. So now i'm going to try and do the next best thing and try and see if I can get anyone from here to listen.

My radio show is an online radio show and it's on fridays 9PM-10PM. It's really simple to listen to. All you have to do is go to google and type in goucher radio. You should be provided with a link that takes you directly to the student radio site. Then all you have to do is hit the listen now link and you can hear me and my show streaming LIVE.

My show is an alternative radio entertainment program featuring all kinds of irreverent songs, skits, and monologues performed by me. I've got some great material so please listen I'm tired of talking to myself. I promise you'll enjoy my show, I'm an award winning writer I'll defintly be able to provide all kinds of humorous irreverent content. So if your interested let me know and PLEASE LISTEN.

One of the problems is your time slot. Most people don't listen to radio programs during primetime.

I'll answer your question in order.

My marketing is very clever. I offered people free dollars. Dosen't get much better then that. People don't hate or dislike me there just to lazy to care about me. Most college students just walk around aimlessly looking for something to drink, smoke, or fuck. Even if college kids have nothing beter to do which most likly they don't have anything better to do on fridays 9-10 they would rather mill about aimlessly then engage in an constructive activity.

I won the national scholastic art and writing competition in the category of humor.

Yes your right the time slot sucks but all the other good ones on other dates are taken.

So please listen to my station. I promise you'll enjoy my wonderful humor and the various unique programming I have lined up.

I don't know if the time is good. I mean its 9pm to 10pm on a friday. Most people would go out on fridays not stay home and use their computer

Fair enough. I will put on the best damn show possible. Heheh I finally have most of the content I want to play anyway so this should prove interesting. I've got everything from Lewis Black to Batboy the musical. This stuff is fantastic, give it a try I think the majority of you will like it.

I'm assuming most of the people posting here are in the 18-24 year old demographic. Common you may go out on fridays but you never mobilize until at least 10 thirty or 11PM. The rest of the time is just spent milling about aimlessly.

Listen to my radio show. I'm finally getting excited about my radio show. After it's over if you listened please let me know what you thought of it.

I don't mean to be quick to judge, but I've never heard a single internet radio broadcast or campus radio broadcast that I liked. The reason for this is very simple: Internet radio and campus radio are really about what the broadcasters want to hear instead of what the listeners want to hear. I have a late-night show on a local station 104.5 WHAJ-FM, and I keep my job because I know better than to just play what I want to hear and assume everyone else wants to hear the same thing. For instance, listeners often call in requesting their favourite love song. Personally, I'd rather listen to the stones or the Doors instead of a cheesy love song, but I play it because people who are up late at night often have personal problems.

You can take my advice or leave it. Admittedly, I've never heard your show, so for all I know you might be the exception to the rule.

A fair argument. There is one key difference between my radio station and other college radio stations. My show is not a music show. I don't play music or at least not the kind of music most of you are used to listening to.

Once, not too long ago radio was the dominant mediam. People would gather around their radio sets to listen to the latest serial drama or comedy. Unfortunatly radio is just a shallow shell of it's former self. Now it is just a cultural wasteland filled with crap and advertisements.

I want to bring back the golden age of radio. My show is an alternative entertainment program. I think you will all be pleasently surprised. Please after the show post your opinions about the show. What you liked and what you didn't like. If you do enjoy the show please tell your friends. Get them to listen to. Spread the laughter and the joy to everyone around you.

so instead of playing music and talking about stuff you do sketches to entertain? sounds interesting

LobsterMagnet
Thu, 12-02-2004, 01:50 AM
Sketches, monologues, stand up comedic works. I also play very unique stuff. Heheh don't want to ruin all of the surprises but just to give you a taste of my other programming. I have a few segments from Lewish Black. Although there a bit dated there still funny as hell. I have my unique, continuing segment "The Batboy Chronicles" and I've recently aquired Mel Brooks 2000 year old man skits. If you've never heard of the 2000 year old man then shame on you. Listening to the 2000 year old man is reason enough to tune in.

Grr you didn't miss much sounds like no one was able to hear the radio station. You need real player but it sounds like everyone had it. I'll have to go and do a bit a reasearch. Maybe the site's down. I have to ask the Radio president a few questions. Just give me a list of what you did and what happened. I'll try and see if I can find a solution and fix the problem. Try and tune in next week k.

My advice to you would be, just chill out and have some fun. When you're angry on air, you just put your audience on edge. I'm assuming you put on this show because you enjoy it, so forget about how many people are listening or not listening, and just have fun with the show. Sorry I can't comment more on the actual content, but my connection kept dying in the middle of things, so I only got bits and pieces of some parts.

Cyrano
Mon, 12-13-2004, 08:35 PM
I just listened to the last 20 min so it's hard to say.

Anyway, here's what i think:

- IMO, you have a good radio voice and you express yourself clearly
- The Pokemon bit made me smile, but not laugh. It need more work.
- Please don't yell in the mic ! i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif

Keep it up, i'll be listening next friday, if i'm at home.

Thanks for the feedback. Oh as for the seething anger and animosity it's something thats been building up within me for quite some time. I mean common I've practically spent the last 4 months on my campus trying to get people to listen to my damn show. I've tried everything. Wonderfully irreverent advertising. Hell I even offered people free dollar bills. Even the people who I'm friendly with on campus are to lazy to take the time to listen to my show.

Any entertainer feeds off the energy and responses of the audience and when you know that your audience is to apathetic, drunk, and lazy to actually try and listen to your show it can get very depressing. Honestly I was getting very tired of doing the show week after week and doing knowing the fact that I was speaking to no one else but myself. I'm happy that I at the very least got some of you to listen. That makes me happy. Maybe I can work to evolve my show into something better. As it stands now I can't make it grow without a listener base. Thats why I'm so damn determined to get your feedback.

As for the pokemon thing I can understand why it might have gotten a smile as opposed to laughter. It's more of a visual piece that works better on film. Well I'll give you an update when I'm on air again. As long as you keep listening the quality of the show will improve so please tune in sometime in january when I come back on the air.

Raven
Mon, 12-13-2004, 09:45 PM
Maybe you should start using reverse psychology and act like you don't care if people around campus listen or not. That might work.

Seriously though, you'd have to be the most patient person I know if you keep doing the show week after week after week with nobody listening. I'd have stopped a long time ago.

Heh it's nice to finally get some appreciation. Thx for your support.

Remember I'm not going to be on the air this upcomming friday. Or any other friday for quite some time . I will be back on the air late in January though. I'll also consider recording my show so I can air it more then once a week. I'll also look into getting information about how to call in while the show is airing. Stay tuned things will only get beter from here on in.
