Lets see...

I can't really choose a favorite one, I like lee because he is hard working and has said one of the coolest quotes ("hard work will beat even a genius").
I like Gaara because he always keeps it calm, talks little but is way dangerous.
I like Neji, simply because he kicks alot of ass and is always acting like he knows it all and stuff... you know, he is your tipical "too cool" guy.
And Shikamaru, because that's like me inside the anime, everything he says I can relate to, and he thinks and acts exactly the way I do... he is just me (except im not that smart).

I can't really choose one of the four, I like them all.

Neji is pretty cool, and Lee is too, but neither of them is quite as cool as Shikamaru.
I like that Shika isn't trying to prove anything. He's just there, doing the best he can with the situations that are thrown at him. It doesn't make for interesting backstory or anything like that, but he's way more stable than the other characters and acts as a counterbalance to them.

It's gotta be Lee--he's got me rotfl every time he shows his face--and he's so incredibly lame yet so cool when he's fighting. Although I must admit, Shika's use of brainpower to exploit his one-and-only trick in different ways is very cool as well.

Hyuuga Hinata - Succesor to the Hyuuga clan, shy, adorable. Only thing that irritates me is her bad taste (Naruto? C'mon).
Nara Shikamaru - No flashy skillz, but his thinking just plain rules. I like how he shows off all his skills in the 1st move, but always manages to trick the opponent into another. His laziness is also lovable.
Hyuuga Negi - Side family guy, but fights to conquer destiny. Getting all the secret main family techiniques by experiment, and using them to such perfection, he just rocks.

I'd have to say that coolest side character is obviously Gai. He is hilarious, strong, and also contians youthful energy that we should all admire. I'd really liked it if they changed the show from 'Naruto' to 'The Adventures of Gai-Sensai'. It'd be pretty interesting watching as Gai debated whether to beat up his beatiful students or, if he should challenge Kakashi to a battle. Also, Gai would gleam every five minutes.

Since the topic summary asks if anyone disagrees about Neji....I have to say I do--he's my least favorite character. Only a total jerk could take out their hatred for the "head" family on the nicest person to ever come into existence. There's no way that Hinata would maintain the division between the head family and the branch families, when she becomes head of the clan--can you see her going around putting seals on three-year-old kids that give her the power to kill them without twitching a finger? There's not a mean bone in her body. But Neji's so blind with hatred, he tries to kill her spirit, and then to kill her outright when she doesn't back down, and I still can't forgive him for that.

I'll admit, he's gotten a lot better since then, and his fight against spider-ninja was pretty cool...but there's no way it makes up for trying to kill Hinata-chin. If he saves her life someday, then I'll be able to forgive him, but until then I'll have to consider him very much un-cool.

We're getting a little off-topic here...but that's not really quite true, the way I see it...the real purpose of the seal is protecting the head family. If the purpose was just to protect the bloodline limit from being stolen from dead members of the clan, it could likely have been designed to do that, and that only, and be placed on all members of the clan, from all families...it obviously doesn't prevent passing on the limit to your children, Neji's existence proves that, so there's no need for the head family to not have a seal like that.

Hinata doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would be interested in protecting her status as the head of the clan via deadly power, so I can't really see her continuing the seal...I think she would agree with Neji and Naruto.
